Wow, what cave has your radio station been living in for the past year? If Da Funk didn't get overplayed earlier last year, then Around The World is probably about to be drilled into your head right at this very moment. Daft Punk are probably one of the most commercially successful house-music groups ever to be mislabeled as "leaders of the electronica revolution." ;P Anyhow, Daft Punk are nothing new, just a simple Chicago-style acid house group that makes minimalist yet danceable tracks. Their videos are quite inventive, however. MTV doesn't play them too much here in the US (dunno about MTV Europe or MuchMusic) so their vids are hard to catch. >Like I said, a lot of people in the media talk about them, but they don't seem >that talented to me. Their song "Da Funk" is decent, but it sounds TOO plain. I >bet Moby could do some damage with that song! It frustrates me when media compares groups like Daft Punk and Prodigy to people like Moby and Aphex Twin. All of the above are enjoying a bit of mainstream success right now, but the first two are simple resurrections of outdated 80's house and early 90's techno while the latter two are constantly reinventing themselves and the genre... > Last question, has anyone ever heard of a Soundgarden song remixed >by Moby? The best station around my area is KPNT in St. Louis, MO. They play nothing but alternative music and have A LOT of CD's, but only play the good music real late at night. Anyway, they really only play Electronic/Techno/Dance music during the "Sunday Ritual" at a club called The Oz. The program starts at 10:00 at night and goes until about 2:00 in the morning. So, the other times they play overplayed alternative music. I've heard Moby on there ONCE, even though they have his profile on their webpage and everything. I've never heard Daft Punk on the station (that I can remember), so the only time I hear them is on compilation discs (ie-The Saint soundtrack) and they don't even sound that great, so consider that case DEAD, (just like their careers pretty soon.) I don't understand why the media bypasses good groups/artists (like Moby, Goldie, e.b.t.g., etc.) to give boosts to other groups (like Prodigy, Daft Punk, etc.) who have unusual (and mostly stupid) appearances. For instance, Prodigy could be a decent group if Keith Flint didn't act like a moron with stupid hair. Liam Howlett should kick his sorry ass out. (My apologies to Prodigy fans). I've rambled on long enough. Anyone else? My computer is still down for repair (or replacement) and therefore my time for responding to email at the moment is next to nill. I will respond to emails that have been sent to me as soon as possible. I have almost 400 emails that I have to catch up on. Is this making sense? The Prodigy comment is interesting. A year and a half ago if you asked people's opinions of the Prodigy most would have said "Love 'em". Moby changed his style a *lot* more than previously (yes I know he had released about 5 guitar tracks previous to AR) and the die-hards love it (for the mostpart).
