OK, I've got too many ants in my pants to stop myself now: How many of us have a large collection of Moby CD's?!! And I am talking only about CD's here, but if you are proud of your entire collection, including vinyl, tape, video, etc., note that separately from the cd's. This also includes your Voodoo Child and other pseudonym productions, since it *is* Moby. Compilation cd's do NOT count. Once again, compilation cd's DO NOT COUNT in the total CD number. It has to be a MOBY or Moby pseudonym release. And actually, the case of compilation cd's, remixes of other artists done by Moby, etc. are also important, so you should include that along with the vinyl, tape, etc. list, separately. So without further adue, I'll go ahead and start the bidding with my collection. It's my opinion that I think I have a decent collection, but I don't have anything to compare with, another reason I am inquiring about this. I have 42 Moby cd's. Now, to arrive at that number, I have counted EVERY Moby cd I have, including the TWO in each double-set. That is, a 2CD set counts as simply that: 2 cd's. And although I am happy with my collection, I know there are cd's I need, beginning with: - - HYMN [1994] GE CD, Mute/Intercord, MUTE INT 826.631 (MUTE161) - - Everything is Wrong 2CD inc. "Underwater" - - James Bond Theme remixes (haven't found them yet) For those of you who have this, congratulations. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's the cd with the "Menacing" version of Hymn, which you may have previously heard me bicker about not having and wanting. Well, if you don't think this is relevant to Moby (I think it is), ignore this request. IMPORTANT------------------------------------ Finally, I don't want this to cause a major controversy on the list because so many people are posting concerning it, so please mail me PERSONALLY with this information; I will sort through it and post it on my web page for all to see, so include all the information which you authorize me to post on my page. "Underwater" wow..those are like the exact 2 I'm looking for also. Seriously, those are 2 damned hard to get CD's. I still regret passing up getting the 2 CD EIW at the local store one time, just because at that time I had only recently bought the NA EIW. My sets not as big as yours though.nothing to brag about. Only about 25 or so CD's. I guess I'm just a minor Moby collector..a small fish swimming amongst sharks :) hehe...(j/k). But really, who cares how big someone's collection is. for all I care, you don't need any moby stuff to be on this list. All ya need is the interest. Of course, I'm not criticizing RRR. This morning i was listening to Demons/Horses for the first time and it occoured to me that before i discovered Moby i never really considered electronic music 'real' music. Animal Rights was the first cd of his that i bought, and i loved it, but when i got EiW after that i hated it, i just didn't see anything good in it (and i hated the vocals!) so i put it at the bottom of my cd stack (under Hole and Live)...but one day just for the hell of it i popped it in the cd player and it just hit me and i loved it more than anything else, like all of a sudden coming into the light or something...jeez that sounds stupid but its the only way i can describe that. i just realized that it was goooood!--and entirely unlike any other music i had ever heard in my life. i was enchanted! so, i bought more of Moby's older stuff, and loved that too. Moby has turned me on to other 'electronic' musicians too, in the time i've known his work but nothing compares to his stuff. i love the man, and i love his music. That's my two cents. - --ginger ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jan 1998 19:30:16 -0500 (EST) From: erik selke Subject: Re: (mobility) genres yeah, EIW was the first thing I picked up - I loved the ambient stuff... but the rest didn't hit me right away, took a few listens, and now its just amazing. I love it to death. I have come into 14 CDs, and thats in about the same amount of time. Whats funny is I owned "Move" when I was a freshman in H.S. (right about when it came out) and I HATED it! And it was quite amusing to find out that bits of music on soundtracks (etc) that I liked was indeed MOBY. So, once that happened, I was really annoyed at myself for not keeping Move. So, I picked that up yesterday, I was giddy. I picked up Animal Rights too... expecting the worst, but wanting to give it a chace... well, I like it - but I grew up listening to "guitarish" music - its got something special in it, and something tells me its definitely MOBY. There are also a good set of non-guitarish songs on it, so its at least worth it for that. So, I am glad I was prepared for something awful, because I am more than pleased that I have it now. Now all I need is the 2CD :-) Speaking of not liking something right when you get it.. I was also that way with EIW-MAR - I was just getting into EIW when I got it, figuring I would love it because I like mixes, and I didn't - at first. But a few weeks ago, I popped it in, and I guess I was just in the right mindset, because I loved that too. so... i overall, im damn giddy, and proud of it. I have moby on the brain... I have honestly been substituting moby for other words in conversations with people (usually cos its playing in my head...) well... back to the headphones... e erik@brainwashed.com selke@tcimet.net One Percent: http://www.mokum.pair.com/one_percent/ "Its O.K. to show a man getting his balls kicked on T.V.
