Rock y'all, non stop y'all, to the beat y'all, bodyrock y'all! I have some uncontainable news. I got the UK "Bodyrock" promos today! In this message, I give my initial impressions of the first of two "Bodyrock" UK CD singles: Mute CDMute225. It's a real eye-catcher. In the same layout style as "Honey" and "Run On", instead of a pumpkin face or mousetrap, there is a skull (fake, I think) against a fleshy pink background. Inside is a repeated picture of Moby (in color this time) against a yummy rose/ violet-colored background. BODYROCK (16:46) [12 Jul 1999] UK CD, Mute, CDMute225 1 3:25 Bodyrock 2 6:49 Sunspot 3 6:31 Arp "Bodyrock" is a radio edit by Dean Honer. Medium-slow homeboy cruising music. Dean tweaks it up a bit, and the end result sounds perfectly fit for pop consumption. I think I like Moby's album version better. Somehow this just doesn't do much for me. I prefer Moby's more technoey & emotional songs. Nevertheless, I think that this song was an excellent choice to be a single. Hopefully it will get widespread recognition as a fun Summertime party track, and cause more people to buy _Play_ and discover what they've been missing out on all these years. :) "Sunspot" is an interesting track. Nothing Moby has released in the past comes to mind for me to compare it to. Whatever it is, it's cool and I like it. It's a slow-medium tempo song with a funky drum beat playing over an Ambient-esque synth loop. Funky piano playing drops in every so often. A very interesting and pleasant track. "Arp" is fast and neat. I may be wrong (I just got this CD within the last hour and my memory may not be gospel), but it strikes me as sounding like "Sunday"-meets-"Degenerate". Spiffy clean Moby techno. The track progresses and gets really cool (IMHO) about three minutes into it. I just like the feeling evoked by the chords shimmering over the fast beat. Then, at 3:48, the song stops. But it's not truly finished. A kind of weird (in a neat foreboding way) string thing starts. It sounds like (and probably is) a backwards playing of the intro from "Every One Of My Problems". It launches into what sounds almost exactly like "Every One Of My Problems" (a Good Thing), ends, and starts back up at 6:10 with the strange string intro, which is abruptly cut off just 20 seconds later. This is definitely a schizophrenic track. It's like 2.1 songs. But I really like it. If _Play_ (which I love) had been made of music like this, I would probably love it twice as much. This single is worth buying -- especially for the B-sides. The "Bodyrock" single will be released on July 12 in the UK and July 13 in the USA. I will post more information on my website at http://www.moby.org/reviews/bodyrock.html - --- Daniel np {{ Moby, "Sunspot" }} moby.org ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jun 1999 21:12:37 EDT From: David J Bass Subject: (mobility) Dj culture For all you DJs out there, here is something I just thought of. If you ever wanted to put videogame music or sounds in your stuff, you can do this. Take the the Audio output RCA jack from your gaming console and put it into a "1/4 to RCA" adaptor and then plug it into your sampler. Find the desired sound or music and record it onto a memory bank. I thought this would be cool to put it into your mixes and stuff like that.
