(NMR) I think there are too many levels of comformity going all at once, no matter what social group or class or age or gender or belief you are a part of. So I think it's inescapable. There's the vision of the wife & 2.3 kids and the fence and all that as being a way to comform, but who does that and sticks to it? With the gay/lesbian population, divorce rate etc etc, not many. The norm (and maybe the way to comform now) is something else, actually many different choices. So either way you chose, you're gonna comform to something. And the same goes for the example of the poor people having no choice but to comform. I was poor all during my childhood. I was totally non-comformist to all the rich kids who were comforming to the trends (like I wanted to be at the time), but I comformed to the other poorer kids and their views and preferences. I agree that the best thing to do for yourself, and the toughest is to believe what you believe, all the while knowing why you do whether it agrees with anyone or not, and doubt what you doubt and admit that you don't know tons of stuff. It's so hard to define things for yourself when all during your formative years you get your information from other sources outside yourself, often valuing the authority of the person telling you what they believe and in some cases acting as an example. And it seems to me that it's impossible to be yourself completely, humans being social animals and all. We're always going to try to please someone other than ourselves at some point because that, in a round about way, pleases ourselves and our egos. I don't live in NYC, but maybe this could be helpful for some of you: My friend emailed me this bit of info: I think Moby is spinning here in nyc on October 10 at a party called BOO! but from what I hear the people who throw this party never organize things well and they always get shut down or they turn people away... I didn't think there was a need to be so pedantic about it! So, if the norm was to jump off cliffs by the time you're 30 because corporate America or the European Union told you to, because it would benefit big corporations and governments and fuck everyone else up, would you conform? What I meant about Moby being a God was just an exaggeration ( a hyperboly if you will). Since I don't believe in God/s then It would mean in my mind that I think Moby makes me feel absolutely powerful, and The charge I get when hearing his harmonic tunes is sadly missed by most of the world. One day however it is my belief he will become recognised for the Genius he is. Did I clear that up, oh well Non-Conformity. Who the fuck cares what group you hang out with, if you go down the street wearing Tommy Shit then you don't have the same taste as me. You are still a cool person (maybe) i don't know. It is wrong to judge but everybody does it. EVERBODY has a first glance and makes up their mind. It is natural. I don't really conform to one group as I see it. Usually that's where they have the circus when it comes to town. I'm not sure how it will sound in there. I went to a show there once about 5 years ago and it didn't sound great, but hopefully Underworld will bring a kick-ass sound system with them. Unfortunately, I'll still be in Chicago (Thanksgiving weekend) and so I'm missing Engage and also FILTER at the 9:30 Club, which I'm pretty bummed about. I love those guys. Interesting fact about the Armory...I think it was when Marilyn Manson played there that one of their roadies died when he fell from some lighting rig. Wooo...spooky.
