He played Natural Blues at the show here in tampa/st pete and it was quite energetic, but in case some of you forgot this was a national television performance on a variety show on network tv. The official Top 40 comes out, a proper chart based on record sales only. I'll e-mail you and tell you how high he gets, since you all seem to be in the US, which is strange, there were lots of UK people here before. But Moby is getting played here so much since Jo Whiley became a fan ( DJ on radio 1FM) Now we have his music EVERYWHERE, there was a cool review in Rock Sounds as well. It seems strange Moby gets written about in rock magezines even though he isn't really doing rock at the moment. Even wierder is that Play was in the Kerrang! Top 40 albums. I really loved how Letterman introduced him. I don't know if he was just reading what he said or if it was completely sincere, either way it was the best introduction i've ever heard for an artist. Very complimentary. Watching Moby perform makes me ache once again for having missed the _3_ chances I had to see him this past summer, but it also makes me very happy to know that I "discovered" him and have grown to love his music. I'm glad I got this appearance on tape. I like to go back over and over and pay close attention to different aspects of his performance. Like i'll watch each member of the band to see their reactions, i'll watch Moby closely, and then just sit back and absorb it all. I noticed that Moby seemed almost pent up...like he wanted to hop and jump around but he was holding back. I also noticed his hands. Ooh, his _hands_! I must admit, I have a rather fierce hand fetish and Moby's hands are just beautiful. The way they were caressing the microphone and the stand and how they would tap at his side, or float aimlessly in front of him. *sigh* Sorry... :) I just love hands. Oh and regarding Moby not thinking his voice is all that great: all I have to say is that there are sooo many singers out there putting out albums and making music who have great voices but have only that - a great voice and absolutely nothing to say. Moby on the otherhand actually has something to say and has something to convey in his music (such as gorgeous, painful, happy, sad, longing...emotions). That is why his voice is great...and works...and is much better, in my humble opinion, than Celine Dion or any of those ballad warblers. *phew* This was long enough, don't ya think? :) Thanks for reading! sarah "...a fountain of blood in the shape of a girl..." http://www.gurlpages.com/nolabel/bjorkdoll/index.html ........................it takes to courage to enjoy it ...................the hardcore and the gentle .............a big time sensuality ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Oct 1999 09:06:34 EDT From: Beacwork@aol.com Subject: Re: (mobility) moby on letterman Well, I was very disappointed in the performance. It's a great song but it doesn't convey Moby's energy or his ability level. I think he should have picked a song that better matched his mood. He was nervous and maybe moving around more could have helped calm him down. It looks like he wanted to do that. Half the time I could barley hear moby's voice and at one point I thought the mike was off because I couldn't hear anything except the voice overlay. Oh well............. I definitely think he should have made a more interesting guest than the other Dave had on. But usually they never interview the performers. BTW I couldn't keep from staring at Moby's head cause he had a pulsing vein on both sides of his head. On every close up you can see it quite clearly and I couldn't stop staring at it. Depending on the light you could see one of them or the other.
