If you're talking about when he holds his hands out horizontally and remains motionless, I interpreted that differently. I thought that stance was very striking and powerful in a theatrical sense. That stance exposes the chakras (I hope I have the right term). And if you wish to interpret his symbolism as religious then I wouldn't interpret it as him elevating himself to a Christ like figure at all. If the image reminds you of the sacrifice of Christ then that might be his intention (agreed it's not too subliminal!) but it also could be the recognition of the "christ" or the potential for the characteristics of christ within every human. I am not a Christian but I was quite struck with the aesthetics! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Jan 2000 01:08:06 EST From: Insrtbrain@aol.com Subject: Re: (mobility) bt/in trouble with mobys managemtn In a message dated 1/16/00 2:52:56 PM Pacific Standard Time, zbentz@d.umn.edu writes: << bt thanks moby in the liner notes, so maybe we'll see something in the future? >> Yeah I mentioned that when I first got the UK album because I wanted to know what the connection was with them... beyond both being absolutely life changing musicians.. \ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jan 2000 23:10:38 PST From: "Stephanie Momose" Subject: (mobility) The Moby Essays Oh all ye who think Moby is preachy... You somehow consciously or subconsciously believe that Moby the artist has crossed a line of standards - perhaps violated a more. Why is this? You have the choice in reading his essays and liner notes. He is an artist - - not a machine. If he were a machine, his music would have no emotion - no life. But Moby is an artist, a complex human with beliefs and standards of his own. You may love his music, but you cannot fully appreciate the music until you understand the man behind the music. To understand Moby is to have a new sense of songs such as "Run On." Moby wears no mask. I applaud his well written essays. While I don't always agree/disagree with his point of view, it is certainly nice to see an artist doing more than fashioning a new groundbreaking album in the music world. I believe in open mindedness - therefore I have no problem with these essays. Those who criticize Moby and feel he is forcing an agenda... check your level of open mindedness. If he is somehow crossing a boundary, perhaps you need to redraw that line - it may be too close around you. Miss Steph PS - Moby has to eat too. And I'm sure he has his favorite restaurants. However, it is our responsibility to keep him at earth's level in our own minds. He's no better than you or I, striving for altruism. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jan 2000 23:39:06 PST From: "Daniel Lee" Subject: Re: (mobility) Thanks 2 Personally, i have lost all hope of this project ever getting done. i too sent a remix to GREG SHIPLEY, who seems to spontaneously vanish for months at a time, then reappear briefly to get mad at people for flooding him with Thanks 2 messages before promptly vanishing once again. First there's the artwork, It has a rather kinky picture on the front with Moby in high boots wearing only some "fish net" panty-hose, sunglasses and a dog belt with spikes of which the rope is being held tight by a beautiful scarcely dressed high-heeled blond woman. Quite an SM scene here... On the back of the booklet we find the Bodyrock skull image (blue background). Underneath the transparent tray is the EIW Moby underwater bubble image (one of the two pictures in the center of the EIW booklet) The backprint is made up of (on the left half) the skull image and (on the right) a Moby photograph (again from the Bodyrock single!) on a red background with the track titles. Also, the back insert doesn't quite fit the box... Then there's the CD itself... It has the same color as the Bodyrock CD single (greenish) and even the SAME catalog# as the Bodyrock single, ha ha I have seen these kind of bootlegs before with "the best of" Metallica, Guns 'n' Roses, Kelly Family etc. But never with dance music.
