Hey, that was a good movie and I thought it was well done, nothing like the story but whatever...it's Hollywood. Maybe when it comes out we can all watch the movie in slow motion and see if we spot MOBY. J/K. Wonder if he asked her to be in the video of if it was just another case of Hollywood puting it's dirty hands on music videos and saying "Hey, here are two trendy actresses, let's put them in a MOBY video and maybe he'll be mainstream!" Who knows. But then again, how cares? She's been working for 10 years now and probably won't stop, some > >trend. You can be trendy no matter how old you are or how long you've been a working artist. A trend begins when something (old or new) get mass attention for something it is a part of or something it's doing. Like, classic cars are trendy in some circles, some actor or actresses who've been working for a while like John Travolta...he was obscure for the longest time and then began getting work and for it, he began getting mass attention for his work...therefore, he became "trendy". (As in, every body wanting him to be in their movie.) BTW: Nope, acting isn't a trend, maybe taking acting lessons will always be trendy in some circles but whatever and working isn't a trend, it's just evil...:-P > >What part of Moby receiving mainstream media play causes him to be > >trendy, or as you put it, not "our" moby. It's like, having a secret, when a secret is known to a small group and then "revealed" to a larger group, it is no longer "their" secret but something known to many. In a way, MOBY was a musical secret known to a smaller group of electronic music fans and now he's known more widely, making him "no longer our little MOBY". See what I'm sayin'? And, in reference to the above explanation, MOBY has been a playing musician for quite a while now but wasn't previously recognized for his work and now he's getting mainstream attention for "Play". In ways, that changes things...he's not underground anymore. I'm not saying that's bad necessarily but one looses a large portion of one's anonymity. It's hard to be invisible once you've got a Grammy nom. ya know? You see what I'm sayin'? I think you're taking the term "trendy" as an insult and in ways it can be...no one wants to be trendy these days, right? In this particular case, I'm not meaning it in an insulting way, I'm just saying "Oh, gee, it's kind of sad that MOBY doesn't really have underground appeal anymore, he's more mainstream and that opens him up to a large audience of ppl who don't care about his previous work...it's a shame to ignore his previous work. And, when a musical artist becomes mainstream, a lot can be lost in the way of good creative decisions. There are plenty of great artists that because of new found fame, did some really silly things to gain fans, sell records or just plain step away for more humble roots." > >He never was anyone's moby--he is > >a free, living human being. No, I hate to break it to you but he's a test tube baby. I grew him in a petri dish...sorry I had to break it to ya. :-P But seriously, he *is* a living being but he's also embodied in video, post cards, shirts, magazines and God only knows what else. That doesn't make him not human but it makes him less real to some I would think. You get on the cover of say Spin and all of a sudden, kids think you're some kind of God and they don't care what you've done creativly...all that matters is that you were in Spin. So, in ways, he's not only human, but he's a celebrity. Make sense? > >I recognized 5 tracks played when I saw "Any > >Given Sunday." Why should I be mad about it? Why shouldn't I be happy that > >the general public may finally recognize him? I dunno, maybe if someone stepped on your toe? How should I know?
