In a years time or so, the media will have moved onto some new 'next big thing' (probably a soul-metal crossover I reckon), and Moby will be 'last years news'. This happens all the time. BUT : Think that for every new 'fan' Moby picks up, some will stay with him forever and Moby will be able to continue to make records (financially) as well as injecting some taste beauty and art into the mainstream media "Play" will become the great seduction album of the year 2000 And 1.6 Million people at least will have read the essays inside the CD book, which is, in some small way, at least isntrumental in changing teh world, even if JUST ONE person turns vegetarian as a result Mark - ----- Original Message ----- From: Rob To: Sent: Thursday, April 27, 2000 1:54 AM Subject: (mobility) An essay on Moby and (that damned) publicity > Berkynstok@aol.com wrote: > > > I am quite disappointed (etc...) I honestly think Bush would rock live (seriously, I still think they are not just a Nirvana rip-off just as i didnt when i was a "modern" "rock" junkie in 94, and they do have some good songs, IMHO) but its just not the same crowd. Moby should continue playing with techno groups. maybe he doesnt want to be pigeonholed that way, but thats what would werk. but whatever, ANY moby show is one of the high points of yr life, becuz of all the damn positive nrg!!!! and if anybody doesnt move during Moby's set, they are DEAD. FUCKING DECEASED. ceased to be, shuffling off this mortal coil, pushing up daisies etc. (right, i got a slug! does it talk? ;) ok im done. ill tell u about the charts oon. one more thing, i was at WPKN and they just got a CD-R of the new SONIC YOUTH CD!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!! i'm getting to be obsessed with them. they are so unstoppably brilliant, and always have been. they really, really should do something with moby somehow, i dont know how it would possibly work, but whatever, it would definitely kick ass. screaming fields of sonic MOBY!!!!! WHEN I SAY DANCE..... anyway, about the whole moby not getting respect at bush shows, preconcieved notions are hard to break. i try to go into each concert i go to with an open mind, and don't write a band off until i've seen them a few times (there are such things as bad nights...). anyway, sounds like these particular bush fans basically said, "moby, who the hell is that? he probably sucks, or he'd be played on our 100.something station like limp or kid rock or whatever other little-talent band they're playing this week," and (surprise, surprise) they thought he sucked. fine. however, there is a certain respect one must have for any musician, no matter how little talent one thinks they have. i mean, personally, i think eminem and kid rock have no business being in the recording industry, but the fact that they are doing it speaks volumes about them. it takes courage to get in front of a room of 2,000 or more strangers in a different town every night and do your thing like a travelling freakshow exhibit for all to watch. i remember when depeche mode was on their singles tour in 1998. stabbing westward was the opener, and i can safely say that 15 people were on their feet. i was told to sit down by people behind me a few times. i kept telling them to stand up. sorry if this doesn't make any sense, my brain is fried from an economics exam.............i promise to be more coherent next time!
