Moby's on right now (a replay of yesterday's show.. but only Porcelain. He did Natch Bluez, Roq, Porc, and Sky).. One thing I forgot to note about his thing on MusicLive Sunday, that I thought was really cool, was that they had live strings, and a woman singing the vocals. That was spiff. elissa __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Kick off your party with Yahoo! Radiohead is an awesome band. especiallly OK Computer. but you also know what? dont talk about them here, and yeah, if you like that song so much BUY THE CD! it wont kill you to do so! and its a great album! jeez! right, and also its funny about this Dr Dre thing. i really like Dre's music (as in, the trax) even tho i dont like the lyrics. i mean, i heard his new album at school (dont ask why, im not too sure about that either) and there was too much talking so i couldnt hear the words but the beats were just phat. thats also kinda why i like Eminem, cuz the music is great. and cuz that kids got some damn skills. but some of the stuff he says also offends me sometimes too. and metallica, they are a really talented band but they have fucking sold out beyond belief. they should pack it in. they have made great music, definitely, but they have also made lots of shit and theyve also made lots of god damn MONEY, more than any of us will ever see, so them complaining about Napster royalties is so rediculous that i will never buy a Metallica cd in my life. ever. Napster is the equivalent of checking a cd out at the library. nobody complains about that right? well, no actually thats not true, my mom is a librarian and she gets shit from all these protest groups saying that libraries are evil becuase they have 1st amendments rights! a kid can go in there and check out "The Satanic Verses" just like that! all these freaks like Dr. Laura or whatever. please, lets burn Dr. Laura! anyway, i should go now. ok bye! ===== Even MTV BIGWIGS have heart attacks!!!!! DJ PAUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! ! ! also forgot to say this, but when i played an hour of Blur saturday nite, i played Mobys mix of Beetlebum (the downtempo one from Bustin + Dronin) towards the peak of the hour, see i started out with some of their hit singles (Theres No Other Way, Parklife, etc) then a few bsides/rarities and a track from Graham's first solo album, then i started building drama: Look inside America, The Universal, Moby Beetlebum, and then peaking with Sing, and then No Distance Left To Run as a conclusion, and then Commercial Break as a "that's all folks!" epilogue. ===== Even MTV BIGWIGS have heart attacks!!!!! They just had one a couple months ago, but that's OK, I enjoy them. Anyway, there were quite a few snippets about Moby in the article "Rave New World", nice article too. So I'll type out the Moby parts. One electronic musician who is definetly getting a nod these days is the American deejay-composer Moby....Moby used his palette skillfully. He got his start as a deejay, but he also sings and plays with a backing band when he's on tour. His 1995 album Everything is Wrong sold about 125,000 copies. His critically acclaimed new album Play, which samples old blues songs and sets them to futuristic beats, has already gone platinum...."The consolidation of all the different record companies under big multinational parent companies", he says, has spawned the current crush of mass-producing teen pop acts. "Your BMGs, your Sonys, your Time Warners...nothing against these companies, but they buy music companies and they expect music to perform the way that, say, snack cakes or liquid paper performs. There's so much comercial emphasis on disposable pop music that I think it leaves people desperately looking for other types of musical expression."(Goes on to talk about Moby's music being used in commercials)...Moby says he tried smoking pot when he was 11 or 12 so he could hang out with the "cool kids", but that was pretty much the end of his experimentation. Says Moby: "I've never tried ecstacy, I've never tried cocaine, I've never tried heroine. I don't think there's anything ethically wrong with drug use, but the reason I stay away from it is that I value my brain too much. I don't want to trust my synapses to some stranger that I met in a nightclub. I hope to use my brain for the rest of my life." We hope he does too....With horrifyingly generic teen pop acts blaring out from MTVs Total Request Live day in and day out, it's a wonder more kids haven't turned to drugs to escape the awful racket. (haha, I just thought that was funny) Sure, a fair amount of electronica is wordless wallpaper, but slip on Moby's soulful, cerebral Play, and you won't need any substances to get high. The music will take you there all by itself. Don't you just love that last part? There's also a picture of Moby at his keyboard and a couple with his billboard in the background. It also mentions Paul Van Dyk, BT, Digweed, and a bunch of others. Hope you enjoyed. - -Sara Angelfire for your free web-based e-mail. http://www.angelfire.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 May 2000 20:09:10 EDT From: SMGA1234@aol.com Subject: (mobility) New Member Shar Hi everyone As instructed here is some info about myself. But who has the copyrights to that? Funny, my brother downloaded this also but quickly out it elsewhere on his computer so it doesn't show up as being on his Napster server. I don't know who has the copyrights to it but what I do know is I would get anything that says Metallica off your Napster directory or else face the wrath of Lars Ulrich. :) MikeA NP: Paul Van Dyk "Another Way" (Club Mix) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 May 2000 22:01:11 -0400 From: "Tone Matrix" Subject: (mobility) *NON-MOBY* (sorta) Hi, this is sort of non-moby related, though not entirely :) Anyways, I updated my websites http://www.tonematrix.com & http://www.mp3.com/tonematrix The tonematrix.com site now has all of my remixes, including the co-winning remix of Orbital's "Way Out", which was in the Orbital Remix Competition, plus 4 other Moby remixes (God Moving Over The Face Of The Waters, Myopia, Everything Is Wrong and My Weakness). As well as a remix of Lange's "I Believe". The Orbital remix has been approved to be on my mp3.com page.. So you can download the mp3 from there as well as listen to a streaming mp3 in either LoFi or HiFi. And then of course theres my own music :) If you like electronic music.. then I suggest you take some time to take a listen :) Sorry to bother the list, but I just need as much support as I can get, and I appreciate any and all support. Hi all my old e-mail address got scrubbed and this is my new e-mail address. To answer the old questions (I don't think I answered the first time around): * Name = Ruben Blanco * Age = 25 * What is in your Moby collection (or a general idea) All of the major releases and an extensive *ahem* mp3 Moby collection. * Where you first heard Moby or how much of a fan you are Heard music at a local club when GO was brand spanking new, and have liked MOBY ever since. Saw him in Denver last year, was going to see him when he made it to Las Cruces in New Mexico (Moby was opening for Bush in the MTV 2000 Campus Invasion Tour), but concert was on the day before EASTER and I was out of town during the time. So I am fan and would like to meet MOBY some Day. * Other artists you like Anything Electronic/Trance/Ambient/Trip Hop/Chill Out Music artists in this vein are too numerous to mention. OK NEW MOBY RELEASES: I don't know of the discussion going on lately but I am really excited about the new Moby song FLOWER to be in the new "Gone in 60 Seconds" movie Soundtrack. Plus it will have the excellent BT - Never Gonna Come Back Down song. Can somebody post or e-mail me the Porcelain CD Single release playlist. Supposed to be released June 12th (I missed the FTP MP3 post :( a while back.) Well that's all for now. Thanks, Ruben A. I'm 17 years old and first became interested in Moby because I heard about 60 seconds of Honey online. (I had previously only heard his remix of the James Bond theme and also from Oil 1 of the Saint soundtrack) I was intrigued because it was so radically different from everything else being done in music today. I promptly went out and bought Play; shortly after that I added Everything is Wrong and I like to Score to my collection. I think I am going to get to see Moby for the first time in August, at the Rolling Rock festival in PA. Is anyone else going? Maybe I could meet some more die hard fans there :) I also was writing because I had a couple questions: First of all, does anyone know of a site where I could download some Moby videos. I have never seen any of them before, except the James Bond Theme and Bodyrock. Secondly, I am interested in getting some of the singles/more rare CDs but I am not sure where I should buy them. Would most mainstream record stores be able to order them for me? Or would I have better luck ordering from an online store? (If this is the case, could someone please recommend a site that is reliable and not too expensive. I have never ordered online before and am a little nervous about getting the best service.) Any help in these areas would be appreciated :) ~Lainey "If you're robbing a bank and your pants fall down, I think it's okay to laugh and to let the hostages laugh too - because come on, life is funny." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 May 2000 23:44:55 EDT From: SpDMBU2@aol.com Subject: (mobility) Flower Hey I just got the new Moby song "Flower" off Napster and it is really good. If anyone wants to download it from me let me know. I guess it's my turn to introduce myself-my name is Alison, I am 17, and I live in Chicago. I have been a fan of Moby ever since he redid the James Bond theme. (I love James Bond so that just contributed to me becoming a Moby fan) So far I have seen Moby only three times but I hope that it will be more in the upcoming years. First saw him at Woodstock '99 (7/24/99), then in Champaign, Illinois (4/14/00), and last but not least Q101 Jamboree in tinley Park, Illinois (5/20/00). Sorry I am boring you but I just wanted to say hello to all you fans out there. Oh yeah the Moby cds I have are Animal Rights, Play, I like to score, and everything is wrong.
