Thanks for saying that! I don't know why, but it just sounds cool, comparing Moby w/ Frank Black!! I wish Moby would cover a Pixies song tho. or maybe even work with Frank Black! or Kim Deal, even better! > yes, for the most part i was really dissapointed > with "play" and haven't > listened to it since about a month after it came > out. the songs are > good, but seem to lack the emotional depth of stuff > like "into the blue" > "when it's cold i'd like to die" "living" "alone" "i > feel it" "feeling so > real" etc... hmmmmm... well, basically, they are DIFFERENT works, so its hard to compare them. i cant possible compare them, they are so different. the only similarity is that they are all Moby, and they are all brilliant! > do you think that old hippies are happy that the > music that defined their > generation is now being used to sell luxury cars, > sneakers, and designer > ice cream? i'm not as > dissapointed with his > new music as i am with his seeming abandonment of > his past ideals. well, the thing about moby that we all know is that he's always changing. he learns differnet things as we all do, and his opinions change, and his views change. thats pretty much life. for a > media personallity, he's a saint, but by his open > attitude twards > advertising, he's failing to live up to his words in > EIW, AR, and now play. > i guess only time will tell whether or not he has > any real impact, and > whether or not he can live up to his own words. well thats kind of a problem, if you worship him and judge him by every syllable that passes through his lips and is written by his fingers, and considering how much Moby is continually changing, then of course you are going to be dissapointed. i honestly love the things he writes, he has made many good points in his essays and writings, but mostly i love him for the music. he's said how he'd try to live in Jesus's image or something, but it just couldn't be done. that's kind of what I'm getting at here, it's hard to be perfect. it's hard to be the most positive person in the world, and do nothing but good all the time. so you shouldn't look at him as Superman or whatever. he's just a damn good musician who can't keep his trap shut ;) ok just kidding but you see what i mean? if you get pissed off at what he does, nobody is telling you to agree with him. just remember this: at least Moby hasn't gotten arrested for assualt or rape charges or anything like that. At least he's a nice guy. At least he loves his fans. At least he doesn't mindlessly kill animals for no reason at all, like Ted Nugent or somebody. At least he is a nice guy. At least he has an open mind, he loves women, people of other races, and gays. He may not be perfect, but at least he is nice. If you consider all that, it's hard not to respect him. And most of all, he makes good music! Or at least he has! Which is why I, and most of you, love him! Amen, DJ PAUL ===== Even MTV BIGWIGS have heart attacks!!!!! I couldn't pass it up. The 1st Annual DanceStar 2000 awards (I'm assuming "2000" won't always be in the title? ) aired yesterday here in the UK. Moby won the two biggest awards.. Best Album and "DanceStar" of the Year. He and someone named ATB were the only peeps to win two awards. He was so sweet and l'il and cute when he accepted the awards. The first time he said something like, "I know that it's cliché to get up here and say that I have nothing prepared because I wasn't expecting to win, but I really have nothing prepared because I wasn't expecting to win; and that's because all of the other albums were remarkable" (paraphrasing). For the second award he said that he was "speechless" and "This means the world to me. Thank you." Too bad he didn't say "thank ya thank ya thank ya" .. that would be cool to have on tape. Anyway, he and his wonderful band members closed out the show with Porcelain, and again he had those cool live strings and live a vocal for the sample, which was just spiff. It'd be great if he had that on his North American tour.. I imagine, though, that it's pretty expensive. Again, for UK peeps, he's going to be on Priory tomorrow at 6p, and if you miss it (which I will, 'cause I'll be climbing mountains in Ireland), you can catch it again on it's replay late Sunday night. Lay-uhz man. Elissa __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! (i personally use the linux napster on my server, then pull stuff from there local at my leisure). so realisticly, someone would have to hack together an indie napster server, and a client defined to connect just to that (and then buy better connections for everyone). cheers, -mark (admin: http://www.mobymusic.com/ ) On Mon, 5 Jun 2000, Bart van Eijck wrote: > Ok, we've been without the Moby ftp for some time now and I haven't heard > anything of plans for setting up a new one.
