Over the years I've generally found that these sort of people are the same ones that a few weeks later post a message asking how to get off the mailing list--they didn't heed the first message, they are technically inept, and worst of all non-fans who joined on a fleeting impulse because they heard the latest single on MTV or their local radio station. Our selfishness and annoyance when we do get these emails is no justification or reason to not want moby to go mainstream or gain popularity or enjoy the fruits of his labor, both in appreciation and financial rewards. > Do we need to seperate this list into age groups or something. 16 > and under Mobility? This is rediculous. This is why so many of the old > members signed off this list. Actually most old members signed off because it got old, or they moved on, or for other personal reasons. I have always been able to identify and easily delete 90% of the crap you are talking about. This wouldn't solve the problem, only cause more when these individuals can't figure out how to get off the list, how do you think they will figure this out? People will just be inundated with stupid questions. > And why does everyone hate AOL????? I'm a senior in internet terms, I've been on since the late 80s before web browsers were even commonplace and even then people on the usenets hated AOLers. Mainly its because AOL is only concerned with getting you online and getting your money, it doesn't require or provide any level of intelligence, etiquette, or technical knowledge, so naturally all the newbies would bother those who already knew what they were doing with seemingly stupid questions. The shear ease and accessibility of ISPs like AOL insures that the lowest common denominator is in the same place as the rest of us. Most people learn eventually, but there are always going to be the neophytes. To this day the stupidest or simplest questions and spam on the usenets is usually companied by that @aol.com domain. >>>a new mailing list has been made. this list is for people who know what they're doing online at least for the most part, and understand and abide by propper mailing list etiquette. it's invitation only, <<< Personally I'm not willing to give up on Mobility, and I don't think alot of us are. Subject: (mobility) Ugh It's like Moby said: "Women regard public musicians as more attractive than non-public musicians." It's odd isn't it, that young girls find Fred Durst and Jonathon Davis attractive...just because they're famous (obviously). And Moby's not bad looking but he's not, ummm, conventionally attractive (as he's been saying) either. It's just inevitable that when someone gets to be famous, there are going to be girls that think they're hot. Hmm, anyway, I hope this list doesn't get split up over something this stupid. Let's all just try to be more tolerant of one another. I've been on a few mailing lists and this discussion always seems to happen. Older "elite" fans vs. new "teeny bopper" fans. Subject: (mobility) My Apologies....... Hi, Tiffany from New Zealand. I dont really know what to say. Um, I appologise for not really knowing the do's and dont's of this mailing list, I replied to a couple of people at the mobility address who were interested that moby was coming to NZ, instead of mailing directly to them, and I can see I might have annoyed some people scrolling thru the lists, and for that, I really am sorry. Im a newbie here, and I joined this list because I kept visiting the official Moby website and always came to read the mobility pages because I like to read everyones opinions on Moby and his music, and to learn as much as I could about him, because the people on this list might not have agreed with each other, but they still belonged to this list because of one Magical person.... I just recieved 26 e-mails on what appeared to be a heated discussion, (and a more light-hearted view from others) I dont really have anything to say about this particular topic, I dont really want to comment on it because I dont really want to upset anyone. I dont think I may ever get to meet him, I dont know if Moby is with Natalie Portman, I dont know what year all his albums were released, and I dont know what Moby would think of the type of discussion we are having about him. I just came to learn more about him, with the help of the people who have been on this list for a long time, and to discuss Moby with anyone, young or old. Please dont think The general undertones of my letter are bitter or angry, because, please believe me, that is not my intentions or feelings at all, Im just a little saddened that some people feel the way they do. I will continue to subscribe to Mobility, and I promise that, next time I have a topic which might not interest everybody, I will reply to that sole person. Thank you Damian for setting up this list, I really do appreciate it, and I hope that in the future I can continue to keep reading this page, and making friends with other people who appreciate Moby and his music. I cant wait to see him in concert in a weeks time!, Im sure he'll be just brilliant. :) Everyone have a good night/day. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com - ------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to majordomo@xmission.com with the line "unsubscribe mobility" in the body. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Jul 2000 02:42:23 EDT From: Insrtbrain@aol.com Subject: Re: (mobility) * new mobymusic mailing list * In a message dated 7/13/00 7:46:41 PM Pacific Daylight Time, mark@lsds.com writes: << a new mailing list has been made. this list is for people who know what they're doing online at least for the most part, and understand and abide by propper mailing list etiquette. it's invitation only, so if you want to join it, you can contact me individually with why you think you ought to be on this list. if you think there's someone not on this list who ought to be on the new one, feel free to forward this to them. serious requests to join only please. cheers, >> Fucking elitist.
