Hi. I haven't had time to get here for awhile...I've been enjoying different Moby CD's as well as discovering new music by watch M2 AMP at night. I'm growing fond of the electronic pleasant-pop sounds coming out of France and elsewhere lately...And about moby-online...I never, ever receive Moby updates. It totally sucks. I don't know why and I've e-mailed them too. I browsed through the mobility archives and came up with this: a review of the first Thanks compilation by theShackofXaq, dated 25 Nov.1997. Enjoy... <----- beginning of quote ----> i am privilaged enough to have an advance copy of "thanks," the mobility comp of moby covers and remixes. since i'm getting a chance to chat with moby before his show here in minnesota on the 30th, i'll be giving him a copy. here's the details: "thanks" CD 1: "unloved symphony" by ryu (5:15) a remix of one of the b-sides of the "move" EP. since i know ryu's style, i can safely say that this is definatly his style! massive break-beats, noisy analogue sounding synths, and a prince sample (ok, just guessing on that one.) this is definatly a noisy tune! the intro starts right in full tilt, then moved to a very minimal break, only to slam back into the mayhem. he uses many of the sounds of the origional. bow your head and jump in! 2: "move" (drums on the move) by ethan (6:34) drums that make you move! some classic d&b patterens with light piano and synth bits. includes the vocal bit (rather sped up!) from the origional but little else that i can tell. definatly has energy. i like the pitch bend in the begining... 3: "emptiness" by dj chrysalis (6:14) stomp! samples several vocal bits, including "bring back my happiness!" basiclly a nice stopmy techno tune that builds the layers on till a horn (!!!) break, then gets going again. 4: everytime you tough me" (gingerbread mix) by gingerbread man (5:40) this one uses the "remix parts" from the "feeling so real" single along with some origional bits, including an odd twangy bit in the very beginning. kinda distorted in the beginging too. then there is a crazy spinback effect and things break down. i really like the cut up sample of the rasta guy! then things change again and the rasta guy is bouncing around from left to right. someone likes their "mute" button! fun! 5: choose your jesus" (tc mix) by darryl cottier this track is just a dj style mix of "dog heaven" (lopez) "next is the e" and "hymn" (i beleive) along with the j. swaggart sample that meat beat used in "it's the music." i guess i don't quite understand the point since the tracks aren't matched up, just mixed one into the other, but i like the swaggart bit! 6: "go" (adrenalyne mix)by epsilon (4:02) uses the "yeah" and "go!" samples from "go." a sped up funk beat and some nasy sounding (in a GOOD way) synths. 7: "james bond theme" (agent-g mix) by gingerbread man (3:54) another stomper! this one uses a high pitched kick and samples "bond, james bond" and the ominus strings/piano bit. dark yet dancy. trance without the over-repitition. playful sounding. good! 8: "god moving over the face of the waters" (reborn) by telex (10:14) a faithful reproduction of the origional. the only major difference is that the strings are a bit less real sounding and there is a swirly windy bit at the beginning and the end, as well as a tinkling piano part at the end. the piano gets lost early on. very good job! 9: "hymn.not.quiet.version" by xero products (8:08) this one is mine. i like how it has gotten more and more distorted as it's made it's way to CD. i just ran the "eiw" version of "hymn" through a bunch of effects and added a soft 808 kick. the result is a very swirly and at time noisy mess. the "wave" sound is static. after the song was done, i continued to play with the static and made the kick all huge and reverby. dispite it's deterioration (sp?) i like how it ended up. so there you have it! you should all email gingerbread man at daviesa@uwplatt.edu and get your copy today! i also did the artwork. it's late, and i'm tired, so if anything in here makes you mad or is messed up, i'm sorry. just my opinion! you should just get the cd and hear for yourself! and i can spell about as far as i can toss my car... - -xaq- <----- end of quote ----> Nice voice from the past (XAQ, WHERE HAVE YA GONE? - in fact where have all you remixers gone?) HELL, 25 November 1997, sounds like AGES ago!!! At that time, Moby just put out "I like to score" and the re-Bond theme ... (... July '98 : Honey single, ... May '99 : Play) Rob PS Somebody please post tracks 5 & 9 to Chris' FTP (ftp://129.93.212.198), and give us a chance to hear for ourselves. I don't think we can still order this gem... - ------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to majordomo@xmission.com with the line "unsubscribe mobility" in the body. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Apr 2001 16:18:15 -0700 (PDT) From: dj pagan Subject: Re: (mobility) whats moby best song ever - --- maMLUka wrote: > what u think moby best song ever > short but deep question :} living. /djp ===== djpagan www.geocities.com/projectaristotle "it is enough." - immanuel kant, his last words __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Anybody/everybody puts on her/his request for 'missing' Moby tracks. That means: long sought after remixes, extremely rare B-sides, anything out of the ordinary, that one track that is out of order - exactly what Chris' FTP side was ever intended to be. I could upload some 8 GB of Moby mp3 files, but I'll never know if there IS/WAS/WILL BE any need for them..... For example: I COULD upload "Moby & Linda Polley - Listen to the angels", but doesn't everybody allready have this (way-out-of-tune, UGLY-UGLY-UGLY, very-unrecommendable, very-much-non-interesting, Moby-might-be-ashamed-for-having-ever-done-this) song by now ....!!? (although it's a rare track) Additional: please upload in at least 160 kbps if you own te original .... (you'll know what this means if you know how to RIP...) Rob PS Again: don't request anything easily to be found in your record store or library, only the precious little gems that seem to slip through everybody's fingers...
