One time I was having a t= erribly irrationally sad day, when her song came on the radio (on one of tho= se rare days when I do hear the radio) and I paid attention to the words & t= hey snapped me out of my negative funk. Thanks, Aaliyah...sigh... Anyway, any thoughts on the following? I haven't been to a rave in a while,= but I like my clubs, so this struck a nerve: - ------------------------------------------------------ =A1Congress Seeks Rave Ban! Ecstasy Prevention Act of 2001: On July 19, 2001, Senator. Graham introduced the Ecstasy Prevention Act of 2= 001 [S 1208 IS], with co-sponsors, Senators Grassley, Lieberman, Durbin, Lan= drieu, Clinton, and Schumer. Elements of this bill concern the Mission Statement of EM:DEF. The most important is a description in SEC 3 of "EFFECTIVE PROGRAMS" for pre= venting ecstasy use. These include communities "passing ordinances restrict= ing rave clubs," and, "seizing lands under nuisance abatement laws to make new restrictions on establishment's use." View the bill at: http://www.emdef.org/S1208IS_EcstasyPrevAct2001.html Visit the EM:DEF site to learn how you can help stop this bill http://www.emdef.org/laws_and_cases.html - ------------------------------------------------------- Some things I don't like: 1) Lack of definition of the title "rave club" (Sec. 3a). Does that mean an= y place playing that darn annoying techno crap? Is this going to be open to= a policeman's definition of a rave club? 2) $7 million is going to be used on an anti-ecstasy drug campaign (Sec.5).=20= Is that what they consider educating the public about a drug? I especially= love the recent ads showing several happy students who are no longer "hooke= d" on e. Look at how this guy smiles; he's been off of e for 2 months now!=20= Well, damn I was once off e for more than a year just cause I didn't feel l= ike it - and let me tell you how easy that was, too. 3) $1.5 million will be spent on research (Sec.7) and $1 million on an anti-= club drug task force (Sec.8). I'd fall dead with surprise if they end up st= ressing in their presentation to the public their scientific findings, inste= ad of getting everyone worked up over exaggerated ugly images in order to bu= ild up a stigma, especially if it targets anyone listening to 'techno'. I j= ust hope their work is really done to understand something instead of provin= g any opinions made beforehand. 4) Did you notice Mrs.Clinton's name on the list of sponsors? Hillary, I th= ought you were a party girl! What happened? (Kidding) Remember way back when they'd to fight the 'demon weed' and one method was t= o shut down jazz clubs, but in reality it was all a cloaked racial war again= st Blacks and Hispanics? I also remember parents thinking their kids were g= oing to kill themselves because they wore black & listened to the Cure, Smit= hs & Joy Division. And what about older people who prefer other music, but do e for 'therapeuti= c' reasons? If they really want to stop ecstacy, they should perform the ha= rd task of fighting those who make it & those who sell it. I'm just tired o= f politicians opting for the easier way which is to call names & create ster= eotypes. blah, blah, blah, malfunctiongirl - ------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to majordomo@xmission.com with the line "unsubscribe mobility" in the body. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 02 Sep 2001 19:36:32 EDT From: Arcya@aol.com Subject: Re: (mobility) hello + new album Belated welcome to Karla! I grew up in Lima until I finished 1st grade. It's really cool to read from individual Moby fans who are from countries we usually don't hear from. First song that made me like Moby: Go And about the new album: Moby said he's got about 130-140 songs & he's checking to see which ones he falls in love with the most. So depending on what he picks, the record could take any sound, shape, color... And I think Moby has $19,037,624 and 88 cents (not including what he's donated to charity). love&hello, malfunctiongirl PS: I am currently watching the video for New Order's "Crystal" (love that song, the words). What's with New Order not being in a New Order video? It reminded me of REM's "Crush With Eyeliner" where they have a cute young hip band in their place.
