There was an NES version. It was actually translated but never released. its called Earthbound Zero. As for the reason why Earthbound is taking so long to come out in Japan, it was oriignally a 64DD game before being moved to cartridge. A lot of game code was probably changed because of this switch since it was my understanding the 64DD version would take advantage of several megabytes of writable disk space. EEPROM chips for carts aren't even close to that kind of capacity. And why no Earthbound 64 in E3. Its clear the game isn't coming out this year and nintendo is in no rush to release it. Earthbound isn't a big franchise. They can hold on to it and release in 2001 or not at all. Not releasing Mask of Mujula aka Majora's Mask would be stupid and they are moving that game out the door this year. - -- Dexter S.
