"Sure, it might have sold A FEW systems..."

Notice the words in caps. A FEW.

Once again, for you, Don: A FEW.

Here. read it and enjoy. - ---------------------- X Marks the Spot: It wasn't so long ago that we posted a strip where we decide which one of us should hate the X-Box. The real point was that we didn't have any hate whatsoever, and were (in fact) struck rather pleasantly by the whole X-thing. Here's what it has come down to, now that we've seen it in action: "Eh." Right. It's not even a word, it's just a little cast-off sound we make when the subject doesn't warrant the effort another syllable might require. I was so disappointed with what was laid out on the floor that I feel like I should put some caveats in here: If this system rules, it didn't show at this E3. Do you happen to remember "Let's Do The Twist," the strip we did about Stephen Frost's premature coronation of the Playstation 2? He claimed that he'd seen unbelievable wonders in secret "back door" demonstrations, and that's what he was basing his comments on. Maybe that's the case this year, too - to give an example, Gabe and I saw technology demos of O3 Games' Enclave that floored us - but I'm going to give the credit to O3 for that, as opposed to Microsoft. As I see it, fabulous visual power shouldn't even be considered a feature of modern consoles, it should be a God damned assumption. On the other hand, I saw Obi-Wan in a back room as well - it looked like it was broken, and maybe it was. At this point, whether many of the games are simply at an awkward phase in their development or some of the launch titles are just fluff and filler, even Halo looked kind of rough. A little bird - a little anonymous bird - told me the version of Halo on the showfloor was not the most current revision, but I'm not sure that it matters overmuch. They've still got time to show me why I'm wrong. For now, though: four-player splitscreen nonsense aside, slow framerate aside, you'd still need a crane to lift the fucking controller. I always took commentary on the size of the Xbox gamepad with a grain of salt, wondering if these people weren't going out of their way to be contrary. I tell you now, God as my witness, I hate that controller. It is so inconceivably large that controllers from other systems whirl about it in a lazy orbit. If I pick up an Xbox (and in order to play Enclave or Munch, that's basically a must), I'm going to buy a third party controller right off the bat and smash the other one with a hammer. Then I'm going to drive over it. Then, I'm going to drive over it again. - -- Dexter S.
