Think of france and their maginot line and how the German army bypassed it and busted through the Ardens -- thought to be impassable by Panzer units. Now, is Square less likely to go to Xbox than GameCube? my gut feeling on this, and let me be upfront and say Xbox isn't my favorite console, is that Square is indeed less likely to go to Xbox. Sony view Microsoft as its #1 competitor. And would likely make a big fuss if Square tries to move into that direction. But that said, keep in mind that it doesn't exclude the possibility, but an educated guess would say that the probability of it happening is slim. I would think Square would develop for Xbox first, above the 'Cube. For one, it's easy as hell to make games for (not that the 'Cube isn't, but still). And two, most importantly of all, it's got the whole online thing covered with the HD and modem built in. It seems like a natural fit with Square and it's MMORPG future.

Sakuraya Co suspended the sales Thursday, and LaOX Co did so Friday, the officials said. Both companies have no plans to restart the sales of the consoles but will continue sales of its software, the officials said. Sakuraya, which mainly serves the Tokyo area, withdrew the product from its stores after having to exchange or fix consoles a number of times at customers' request, its officials said. LaOX stopped the sales at its roughly 110 outlets nationwide, its officials said. The Japanese unit of the U.S. software giant, Microsoft Co, said it has received 588 complaints or inquiries about scratches on game disks as of Wednesday. Microsoft said it has no comment about the suspension of the sales of the Xbox consoles at the two retailers. Xbox, Microsoft's first home-use game console, was put on sale in Japan on Feb 22 following its debut in the United States and Canada last November. Microsoft has touted Xbox — with its graphics, built-in hard disk drive and broadband Internet capabilities — as the home Internet terminal of the future. More than 1.5 million units have been sold in North America since November. Xbox sells for 34,800 yen, more than its major competitors. The Sony PlayStation2 costs 29,800 yen, and the Nintendo Co GameCube 25,000 yen. (Kyodo News) ==================================== Whoever it was on this list that said that it was just happening in Japan, that appears to be correct. "all platforms" would indeed include Xbox. I'd swear that I read somewhere that Square was also working on a PC version of FFXI, so how could they not have an Xbox version? I have no sources, not going to take the time to look, but I'd swear I remember reading that. But the question is whether or not Square will develop anything else (worth playing) for Xbox? Or for that matter, Gamecube. Just having Square on Gamecube isn't really all that special. If Square releases FFXII and whatever else decent they have in the works (Chrono Break!) for Gamecube, then I'll be pleased. I'm certain of it. ;-) They couldn't port FFX to the Gamecube since it would need to be reprogrammed for multiple discs, and that would prolly cost more money than it's worth. And Final Fantasy XI wouldn't do well on the Gamecube since Nintendo has no plans for a Hard Drive, which it needs according to Sony and Square. So I think that the best possible thing that you might see on the Gamecube could be a updated version of Final Fantasy VII - Final Fantasy IX, that could work. For the Game Boy Advance I'm betting there will be ports of the first three Final Fantasy games that were on the Wonder Swan Color. Just my guess. ===== ** Dave ** super_trey_bros@yahoo.com AIM: Sanrio Velocity (insert witty sig. here) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Try FREE Yahoo!
