Rare have been going for *years*. They made a whole ton of games for the NES, such as RC Pro Am, Wizars & Warriors etc. Before that, they made games for the ZX Spectrum computer - a huge big hit in the UK & Europe. They were one of the 'original' developers in the UK, since around 1982/83. Previously known as Ultimate Play The Game, responsible for games like "Jetpac", "Psssst!", "Atic Atac", "Knightlore". A seminal company. Have a look at the "World of Spectrum" online for more info. Why is it so many people on this list & other lists can't tell the difference between a developer & a publisher? Its a bit crap I'll admit but this one is a different kettle of fish from many other soft Cos releases (1080 snowboarding any one?). I have it on good authourity that RARE start the PAL conversions before the ntsc version as finished coding and they always do a good job of it. Even though it has been sitting on a shelf for some months now I don't think we will see such a good conversion of 1080. It does annoy me that English soft Cos do not produce PAL first but at the end of the day you have to sell a product where the market is biggest. I would rather have to wait appx a month for a decent game than have a company do little or no conversion leaving large borders, squashed gfx and slowdown and still expecting your British punter to shell out 60 quid for it. Now that is taking the piss. The new N64 libs now support full-screen video modes for PAL systems, so PAL conversions shouldn't be squashed for much longer. gordon Email : gordons@dma-design.com - ICQ : 13833980 - a.k.a.
