At least that's what the local TRU says. I'm not going to purchace it right away. It may be great, but I'm not taking chances with it since Konami's N64 offerings have been less than grand. I mean Martial Champions was a great fighter (Konami Coin-Op & PC Engine CD) but Deadly Arts didn't even diserve the 1.0 EGM gave it. A friend of mine in getting Castlevania the day it comes out so I'll play his too see if its any good. I agree that Castlevania 64 (I know there is no 64 in the title but I'll say "64" to avoid confusion) has a lot to live up to after Symphony of the Night. But there is hope since Castlevania was developed by the same division of Konami that made Metal Gear Solid & Castlevania SOTN. However, by far and best, is Target. They frequently cut down the prices quietly, the only problem is finding the right game. Best Buy is second in competition, also putting on quiet sales. Fighter's Destiny for example, can be bought for around $30 right now if I recall correctly. And then comes Wal-Mart, and finally Blockbuster...they sell used games, but they're almost always just two or three different ones. Blast Corps, Forsaken, and a few others re ones I've spotted for $30 there. EB isn't the place to shop for game prices, merely games you can't find. The best bargains come on games that don't get lots of publicity and are really good: sleeper hits if you will. Fighter's Destiny, Forsaken, and even Blast Corps I find on sale a lot. Kinda showing all the characters, and lots of small cinemas of them. Press Start on the main screen and you can pick from 1P Mode, Vs Mode, Option, and Data. Options allows you to mess with the sound and screen adjustment, and in Data you can check out all the fighters. Pick 1P and you can choose from 1P Game, or Training Mode (you can also pick bonus 1 or 2 practice, but I will tell about those later). Hit 1P Game and its time to choose your character. Mario, D. Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, and Pikachu. The characters heads are arranged in boxes, with two rows of six. There are 4 spaces that have ? marks in them, so I assume they are the hidden characters. I pick Samus, and choose my difficulty as normal. It then shows the Vs screen, and my first opponent is Link. You can also at the top see a pathway showing all the fights you will have to play. A loud voice counts down 3, 2, 1, Go! and we start. The main objective when beating an opponent is to make them fall of the battle arena. But these are sometimes large, especially Links, for his I assume is on top of Hyrule Castle. When knocked off by an attack, you can sometimes use your jump button in mid air to get back on. But if not, you lose one of your five lives and teleport back into the battle. If your opponent gets knocked off, you win. Health is measured at the bottom in terms of percent damaged. Usually after their past 100% and you knock them off, they won't get back on. Controls in the game for Samus are: A:Punch, B:Build up Gun Power, Z:Shield, and C-Left:jump. May not seem like a lot, but there are TONS of special moves to be pulled off. Shouldar slams, projectile attacks, drop kicks, and use of other things like Bombs. Believe me, they are very cool. Another very neat thing is how weapons are thrown onto the battle arenas. Kinda like MK4, but not quite. Barrels and boxes will fall, and when you break them open you can get powerups or health. Powerups include laser guns, giant hammers, light saber-like swords, a magic wand that you hit someone with and they fly a long ways away, and a fire flower that you shoot fire out of like a blow torch. One of the neatest power up is a Pokemon ball thing. I don't play Pokemon that much, so I don't know any names, but when you activate it, different ones will come out. This stone like pokemon will fly up into the sky and drop rocks onto the whole arena, and they are some others that will come out and shoot things. Another sweet addition to the game is team battles. After defeating Link, I am fighting Yoshi team. Three Yoshis at a time will be fighting against me, but it is not as hard as it sounds. Yoshis home turf looks just like something taken out of Yoshis Story, and I am pretty sure the music is out of YS. The Yoshis are a little easier because when you knock them off they dont come back. You can see at the top of the screen how many you have left. There are other types of team battles too. One is me and a random fighter (this time its Pikachu) vs Mario team (Mario and Luigi). Music is the tradition music you think of when thinking of the NES Mario games. Marios home turf in at a castle kind of thing, with two levels. The battlepath is like this. You first fight Link on top of Hyrule Castle. Then you are against the Yoshi team at the Yoshi arena. Next is against Fox on top of the Great Fox or whatever in the middle of space. (Sector X maybe? havent played star fox lately). Music again is recognized from Star Fox 64. Next is a bonus stage where you run around trying to bust all the targets before time is up. Mario team is next which I described above. Next is against Pikachu on top of a building, which raising and lowering platforms on the sides. The next battle is really fun....it is me, Link, and DK versus Giant Donkey Kong. This guy is HUGE. We all are trying to whup him at the same time. The DK has very recognizable music from DKC on SNES. The stage is on bamboo platforms in the tree tops. Bonus stage 2 is next where you run around attempting to jump on a bunch of platforms.... Next is Kirby team. Now these guys are tough..when you are playing as Kirby, you can suck in your opponent, and become him. Like suck in Mario, you will be Kirby with a Mario hat, and have all the skills of Mario. Next is Samus versus Samus....then there is a round against the starge purple creatures. The preliminary boss is against Metal Mario, then you fight this big hand. The hand can't be knocked off....you have to lower its health. And it has a lot. After I beat the game on Normal, I opened up one secret character...a pink fluff ball like Pikachu named Purin. I assume it is too a Pokemon. So overall, the one player mode is an experience. It is extremely fun. I will be reporting later on multiplayer. Let's just say if you see this for $60 or less somewhere like tronixweb.com or buyrite1.com, I would recomment getting it. I think this game is the longest I have ever played. I am still on the third level (rescued 5 prisoners and blown up 1 ammo dump) but the reason why it takes so long is because I will play for 45 minutes and then I'll have to go somewhere and turn it off (stupid save points are so frigging far apart). Acclaim should have made a save thing like in Zelda. Anyone actually like the save point thing?
