It's a bunch of responses Peer and Matt got from people who didn't know the RE story was a joke, even though IGN does an April Fool's thing every year and I think at the bottom of the news post they included a hidden message saying specifically it was a joke. Whatever. The thing that scares me is that people 1) actually believed it and then 2) wrote letters to IGN64 about it that contain content which reflects anything from just ignorance (someone thought Teletubbies was American) to borderline racism (there are a number of references to Japanese morals.. one guy suggests that the Japanese have "slower metabolism", which accounts for why they have lower tolerance for violence, a fact that is also false). Then there are the people who argue that games are for children, not parents, so therefore the game designers should cater only to their ultra-violent moronic tastes. Another person comments that his PSX games never suffer from framerate drops, making Sony a superior company than Nintendo. On one hand, I'm a little scared by these people. How the hell can they be so ignorant and self-righteous? On the other hand, they are so DAMNED FUNNY. One self-described "nineteen-year-old college student" uses the word "cutify" to describe Nintendo's censorship. The same guy finds it "eloquent" when his friend describes Nintendo games as being full of "happy hexagons", which makes absolutely no sense once you think about it. I especially enjoyed the bunch of people who wrote in saying "good job on the April Fool's joke.. it WAS a joke, RIGHT?" Anyway, that's enough ranting for now. Have a Happy Easter/Passover for the religious. BTW, just a little tidbit of info for those who don't check IGN. Get this: In Japan, where the N64 is basically a lost cause, every week twice the number of N64's are selling than Dreamcasts. Doesn't bode well for Sega. Say what you may about Nintendo, whenever you buy a system from the Big N, you know you'll be getting at least some excellent first- and second-party software.
