Sorry if anyone sees this more than once, but you know the drill... I've recently sorted out the way majordomo handles addresses not actually subscribed to these lists, so you won't be seeing any more "FORWARDED MESSAGE" nonsense. As part of this I've uncovered a cache of older messages that were bounced to me because they were posted from addresses not obviously subscribed to the list; those messages will follow this posting as appropriate. - -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: AniAg@Info.LiU.SE (Anika Agebjoern) Subject: STP 23 Date: 07 Jan 1996 14:35:05 +0100 <# Replies to this message will go to: <# AniAg@Info.LiU.SE (Anika Agebjoern) <# To respond to the list, please mail your message to orb@xmission.com. <# For help unsubscribing, say "HELP" in a message to majordomo@xmission.com. This message will go both to the Orb list and the KLF list, that is why some of you will receive it twice. Replies to both lists (klf@xmission.com and orb@xmission.com). Personally, I'm no Orb fan, but I like their music. This old thing with STP 23, the group that appeared on the "Eternity project" album, connected to the Orb and the KLF, is interesting: > 4:45 Robo-Bop: Bang Me Baby [engr Bass/Rockman, prod Bass/Django] > 5:30 Lyndsey Holloday featuring Eternity: Feel The Love > 5:15 Splendid featuring Eternity: Paco's Revenge [dj Cesare] > 3:45 STP Twentythree: Let Jimi Take Over [Bass remix] > 4:15 Eternity: That's What I Want [prod Bass] > 5:50 Eternity: Ashram House [prod Bass, dj Cesare] > 5:00 Mr Love featuring Eternity: Mr Love [prod Bass] > 5:40 Eternity: Sanctuary [prod Bass] > 3:45 The Orb: Tripping On Sunshine (live mix) > 5:30 Discotec 2000: Feel this [mix Rockman/Cress, prod Bass] > Alex vs The KLF Part One [CD only] It's interesting because two 12"'s are released under the name STP 23 (from 1990 and 1991 respectively), namely, "Let Jimi [Hendrix, not Cauty] take over" (including Retromix, Original mix and something called "Ultramix one" (Deep mix)) and "Goldfinger" (including Alpine drive mix and Telephone mix). There is also one 12" under the name "STP experience". Some things suggest that this is the KLF. Firstly, the KLF were and are obsessed with 23's. And the discography has a note "A buck says it's Cauty/Drummond". But on the other hand, Bass and Youth were noted as mixers, suggesting an Orb connection, and furthermore, this was released on Wau! Mr Modo. And why would the KLF have released something there when they had their own label? Any info and theories would be appreciated. What new-release list? Anyway, this reminds me that there's a listing for _Space_ by the KLF in the Sister Ray ad in TEEX 2 (p. 56). They list it for 20 UKP. Not being a resident of London I can't swing by and check it out (it's an old ad anyway), but I thought this was supposed to be next to impossible to get. Does anyone on the list have a copy? For me it is a reasonable price as the orinigal copie is really hard to get. They got a good mail order. With creditcard you get the delivery in three - four days, when you are in Europe. So US may not take much longer. It is not better than Chill Out, but different. Space is almost beatless and does not contain that much well known samples as Chill Out does. >BTW, the original _Space_ was supposedly the first Orb effort (LX and >Jimmy Cauty), for those who haven't heard of it. That is right. You have Jimmy and Bill as KLF and Alex and Jimmy as The Orb. But after a row about naming stuff KLF or Orb, Alex departed in april 1990 taking the group name with him. Space was then released on KLF Communications and with only Jimmy credited by name. The official press release claimed that Space was originally intended as The Orbs debut album. But was now simply Jimmys own creation, as he had removed all of Alexs contributions. And that is hard to believe....... Why would someone pay significantly more for the original, when there is a bootleg CD now available? We haven't really had any abuse of any of these lists for advertising purposes, it just seemed appropriate to let everyone know where I stand ahead of time. It was suggested that I introduce myself to the members of the evergrowing Orb list. Most important, I would think, is that I am a long-time Orb-head residing in New York City. When I have free time, I prowl record stores looking for bits of interest. I would be glad to keep an eye out if anybody is looking for something particular from someplace like Zappp!, Rebel Rebel, or any other fine record store, with the possible exception of Bleecker Bob's, because they are obnoxious, unhelpful, and overpriced. I was introduced to the Orb by a couple of wonderful djs in the springtime of my club prowling days. We went to a '91-'92(?) concert, very intimate by today's audience standards, and I was blown away. The next day I spooted the whole crew lounging at an obscure club opening in the middle of nowhere (around Canal Street). The lowest point of fandom occured when I was in Germany, my girlfriend (also a journalist) attended the private party for the Orb by Formula in a Manhattan indoor amusement park. We still have the invitation, which was printed on rainbow rolling paper, and the light refracting glasses from the aforementioned concert. Anyway, High Times' Joe Pipe gave her a pipe and dosed her with laced ganja. Uncool. as she had no idea what was happening or what to expect. The next day she interviewed Dr. Alex and warily turned down smoking up with him after being dosed the night before. So, she, an Orb dilletante, get's my interview of a lifetime. Sad, no? Oddly, I was born near Wright Patterson airforce base, home of the Blue Room. My middle name is a Pattison, too. I think there may be other useless, inane connections too.
