False. SP is still with nettwerk, in a weird sorta way.. cEvin key has started up his own label, subConscious communications, and has been releasing all the platEAU, Download, SP, Tear Garden, etc.. stuff through that label... He's currently working with Nettwerk for the distribution, and from the interviews that i've seen with him, he likes nettwerk and is going to stay there.. Offbeat and cleopatra have also released some of cEvin's stuff, but just on an individual cd basis... :) It would be extremely cool if the orb did an SP remix, but o well :) cL. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orb" in the message. # Postings must go to orb@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Latest Orb info: http://www.theorb.com/orbulletins.html -- look here first! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 13:55:38 -0800 From: Steve Shah Subject: (orb) Redhat Orb Heya Orbies, Just a little FYI for you UNIX folks out there -- in the latest Redhat Linux Unleashed 2nd Ed. book, check out the FTP Server Setup chapter on page 142. Here is the excerpt: [...] The alias command allows you to define directory aliases for your FTP clients. They are acticated when the clients use the cd command and specify the alias. This capability is useful to provide shortcuts to often requested files. The format of the command is alias where is the actual directory the users should be transferred to. The following is an example of this command: alias orb_discography /pub/music/ambient/orb_discography Hence, if the clients connect and use the command cd orb_discography, they are automatically moved to the /pub/music/ambient/orb_discography directory, regardless of their current location. - -Steve - -- ______________________________________________________________________________ Steve Shah (sshah@cs.ucr.edu) | SysAdmin/Coder/Gabbernaut/DJ/Writer/Minister http://www.cs.ucr.edu/~sshah | We're not dropping out, we're infiltrating. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Life is best measured in beats per minute. I got this off the Pollstar site---I found this in their "Gigs & Bites" section "The Recording Industry Of America chalked up a major victory against online music piracy last week when it settled three separate lawsuits against keepers of MP3 archive sites that allowed users to download near-CD quality songs. The court-ordered agreement requires the site operators to be good netizens by not making anymore copyrighted material available for download. Actually, the operators really didn't have a choice -- the alternative was to pay a $100,000 fine for each infringement, which would have totalled more than $1 million. Instead, the RIAA accepted the operators' word that it wouldn't happen again and agreed to forgo the fines. But the RIAA did warn the offenders that they wouldn't be so "nice" if they run into the same situation again." Can you believe that? I wonder what sites they were. Does anyone know? It has one cool feature, though: a 3D coke can which will bop back and forth to the beat of the music, while the "camera" will circle around it. Well, we popped in the remix of Oxbow Lakes from Ultra Rare Trax and observed... the can did two spasdic movements and then stopped, it had no idea what to do.
