There were two other terms used regularly, one called "fubar" ("F***ed Up Beyond All Recognition), and one other I can't remember. Warner Bros. animation studio (those who brought us Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and co.) did a series of cartoons for the armed forces during WWII, based around a character named "Private Snafu." Most were written by Theodore Geisel, better know as Dr. Suess, of all people. To make this Orb related, I was just wondering about the remix of Tangerine Dream's "Towards the Evening Star." I had read (on the TD website, I think) that Edgar Froese of TD was really upset about the whole deal, since he wasn't consulted over it. I know that TD gets kinda crunchy about others doing stuff with their work, especially when they (quite rightly, IMHO) sued Jon Anderson of YES over his unauthorized vocals being sung over one of their songs from the Legend Soundtrack. Kinda sad, but I WOULD love to hear an Orb remix of some of the Virgin-era Tangerine Dream--especially something like Rubycon or Force Majeure.... Anyone hear of any plans to do something like this? And I thought that most commercially available music was garbage because of "tin-earred graph paper brain accountants" WITHIN music corporations and MTV! Little did I suspect that McDonalds and Texaco would eventually jump into the picture. I guess at the very least it doesn't say, "U.S. Government Inspected," although if that Billy-Boy gets impeached, and Al Gore becomes President of the U.S., Tipper Gore might decide to resurrect the PMRC and its monstrous offspring.... Where's Frank Zappa and the Dead Kennedys when you need 'em? I dunno...corporate sponsorship of music really bothers me, unless it is in some way truly responsible for the music and art envolved. For example, the Orb/Korg ad is cool, and liner notes in David Arkenstone's cds saying that "David Arkenstone uses only Ensonq keyboards" is fine. I think I feel that way because I don't see those companies trying to hinder the artists in their work; in fact, the more "creative," the better, since the artist, in turn, demonstrates the versitility of the product(s) used. However, if companies like Fischer-Price (the toy manufacturer) start sponsoring music, I can only see that HINDERING the artists, since they would undoubtedly lay down restrictions. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but the whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Hi everyone, I was just in Portland, OR on business and did some shopping. I found this great store "Ozone Records" across the street from Powell's Books downtown. I picked up System 7 "Hangar 84" single for $3.50, Aunite Aubrey's EBTCOD for $24.99, KLF WTIL Live at Transcentral 12" for $2.99, and "Textures: Highlights from Trance Europe Express 1-4" -- If you haven't heard this, it's 2 continuous mixes of tracks from the Trance Europe Express series, the first disc mixed by Darren Emerson, and the second by Alex. Alex's disc is outstanding! BTW, does anyone know if this is rare? I haven't heard it mentioned here. Anyways, they have one of the best techno/electronic/D&B sections I've ever seen, and if you're in Portland, you should check them out. Some other stuff I saw there was Auntie Aubrey's EBTCOD 2Cassette still sealed, Orbus Terrarum map pack ltd. ed., Damn there the whole Trance Europe Express and "Volume" series', Sun Electric stuff, Lot's of techno/electronic vinyl, lots of videos, etc. Also, thumbs up to everyone behind the OAA, the site looks great! If I may throw my iron into the fire, I believe the sample of chanting sounds very much like the stuff on Robbie Robertson's Contact From The UNDERWORLD of Redboy.
