I can't say from firsthand experience, but apparently the music the BoC make is highly evocative of the scores from old Film Board of Canada nature documentries. When I say I can't say from firsthand experience, it's not because I haven't heard the BoC, but because I haven't seen any nature documentaries made by the Film Board of Canada. Have seen some of their animation on the Cartoon Network, though. Have you heard the remix the Boards did of Meat Beat Manifesto's "Prime Audio Soup?" It's incredible... Apparently they turn down remix work left and right, but since they're MBM fans they agreed to do this one... track it down if you haven't heard it... single also includes a remix by The Herbaliser... PMDC was printing the 2-disc version for Island here in Germany but all of them have been exported somehow ;-). Don't know why?!? Maybe Island did not expect so many hardcore ORB-fans here in Germany willing to buy a 2-disc version. Think those 2-disc versions are a new Island PR-stunt ;-). Just have a look at U2. Their new "best of compilation" was also released in a limited 2-disc version. Why limited?!? Nevermind... Michael > The copy I purchased in Buffalo NY, had a 'Made in Germany' sticker on it > also. The name doesn't, as somebody else pointed out, come from the "Boards" of the Environment. But from nature documentaries made in the 1970's by the Canadian Board of Education. As you point out. Apparently, in their formative years, the band used to show a lot of clips from these documentaries from 70mm film when they played live. >But you're right about them not being Canadian...the two guys behind Boc >are actually from Scotland...go figure. True. Though both were brought up in Canada, hence them witnessing the wonderful nature education provided by the Canadian government. They (allegedly) record all their music from a bunker hidden in the Scottish highlands, completely cut off from the outside world (no telephones etc) Definitely my favourite album this year, the new one is due out early 1999 as well. Hopefully they may do some live dates (that could be extremely interesting). Hmmmm. This post has been completely off-topic.
