The video went out of print a long time ago. I've seen it being sold on the net for obscene amounts of money at auctions. Recently, several of us found bootlegs for $35 which were of pretty good quality. I can't remember the store though. (Found it through gemm.com) > list have any live Orb video? I'm looking for some, as I've never > seen them live. Video CANNOT replace a live show. (True for most bands in general, but esp. the Orb.) Their live shows have visuals all over the place. When I saw them in LA in '95, they had stuff on all four walls, and the ceiling. They may have had stuff pointing into the crowd but I was too out of it to remember. One of the most memorable visuals from the show I saw was dancing sticks in the front (behind them playing) and every 16 beats one of the stricks could "fly off" and follow the walls around the entire room until it got to one of the sphere's (an Orb, get it? ;) hanging from the ceiling where it would turn into another flower. You just can't capture that on video! What's up with this, and what is the Orb connection? (Far be it from me to complain about non- Orb related material, but I'm just curious....) The Fireman is a name Paul McCartney has released two albums under -- "Strawberries, Oceans, Ships, Forests" in 1993; and "Rushes" this year, I think about 3 months ago. Both albums are completey void of any credits whatsoever in the liner notes which adds even more intrigue, but I heard he did the first album with Thrash, maybe the second - I can't remember. I would definitely recommend hunting both of these down to all Orb fans. I like Rushes a little better but that's because it's more ambient. Strawberries Oceans Ships Forests appeals to the "ABTU" side of me, while Rushes appeals to the "System 7/Steve Hillage" side of me; although neither are like the other. OK, I suck at tyring to explain a certain sound so forget it - I like 'em. I'm surprised more people didn't pick this up when it came out. I remember somebody posting the release date of "Rushes" to the list -- that's how I found out about them. later, Scott NP - Seal - Human Being # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Dec 1998 03:59:19 -0600 (CST) From: Joseph Jun Subject: (orb) re: Gemm Hey all you really wealthy people, go to www.gemm.com; there's a flood of some mildly rare stuff. Someone mentioned the Orb doing Drum & Bass... I dislike Drum & Bass (Jungle). I like pretty much everything else, but of course, since Drum & Bass is so popular right now, I am a bit SOL. I was REALLY disappointed with the Orb's latest efforts. I saw them live in D.C. too (nice to have one of the tracks on U.F.Off), and it was much different from the time that I saw them in Phoenix in '91 - at least music wise. I think the fact that the recent singles haven't gotten much attention (not unlike the album) shows that. I also have thought (and correct me if I am wrong) that most of the talent laid in Thrash, as far as production and musical ability. Patterson (while I like him a lot) always struck me as the "idea man" and the tweaker. I believe I have read a few interviews that have touched on confirming the suspicion but never really. I love the Orb. I just (sadly) love pre-Orblivion Orb. Over-driven bass beats don't do it for me. The collaboration began in 1993, just at the height of the downtempo boom, when a mostly featureless red LP named Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest appeared on the shelves. A bout of rumor-mongering reminiscent of the 1977 Beatles-are-Klaatu scam quickly gave way to the fact that McCartney had indeed been a part of the project. The Fireman's debut album was licensed to Capitol in America, though it didn't receive quite as much press as expected. Though the album smacked of a one-off, the Fireman returned in 1998 with their second album, Rushes. -- John Bush, All-Music Guide :) Agust "Nemesis1" - aaj@centrum.is - ICQ: 1290264 - http://www.kosmic.org/~nemesis1 # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Dec 1998 09:21:45 -0700 (MST) From: Mike Bailey Subject: Re: (orb) Russian translation needed >i heard its not really a word but just some characters from their alphabet. >Incl. some that are not recognized as russain letters. They also have a shop in Tokyo and in Paris. In their latest listing, they wrote that the LFC 12" *2 will be released next monday. Am I the only one who thinks that the first Fireman is a crap album with the same track over and over again ? "Rushes" is a little bit better, but I listened to it again yesterday and I'm not impressed by the album as a whole. Some nice things, but it is surely NOT the album the Orb missed to do. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Paul Mc Cartney / Beatles fan but I think Sir Paul is better in writing silly love songs. It's great though that he tries to compose different stuff. There's also a Vol. 1, and they were both CDRs with color copied inserts. If I remember correctly, Vol. 2 had a lot of mastered from vinyl remixes as the "ORB" bootleg, those being several of AHEG, Perpetual Dawn Ultrabass II, but also Peace in the Middle East and Tripping on Sunshine. Vol. 1 was a live bootleg from sometime in 97, I think, as it had Toxygene on it. I listened to them both but didn't buy either, as I don't feel right shelling out $25 for a CDR. But in a fit of excitement and stupidity, I did buy a CDR of Live at Brixton 92 for $20 when I was in Chicago. Someone kick me.
