Most of the time his voice is nothing like LaVar's, but precisely on that one sentence ("What were the skies like when you were young?), his voice cracks slightly, giving him that unique "Geordi" sound. RLJ is quite clearly infected with some sort of cold virus, and sniffles occasionaly, thus lending credance to the idea that she was on major cold medication during the interview and thus was able to trip-out on the question in an appropriate fashion (although I will say that she seems to be a generally trippy person, judging from the biographical details revealed in this interview). The one other Orb sample, "I don't know if I was High" is from a later segment of the interview where she is describing her first rock festival (somewhere in CA in 1969) where she saw Jethro Tull. The "Little Fluffy Clouds" sample is only about two minutes into the interview, and the "High" sample is closer to the end of the disk. All in all, a worthy little item. The interview is a little over 30 minutes long, and reasonably entertaining, and actually makes you want to listen to the accompanying album (after all, the purpose of a Promo set). So, sorry all you Geordi fans, but it just ain't him. grant.. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Feb 99 16:45:11 -0600 From: jmoxness@erdman.com Subject: (orb) Rashinings Orb people - I am just wondering if copies of U.F.OFF are running out everywhere or just where I am. Yesterday a did an interview with Thomas Fehlmann (The Orb's third member) and one with Sun Electric. Thomas Fehlmann came up with some spicey details about The Orb (some things about Kris Weston aka Trash I didn't know) and some things about the new stuff that should arrive within two months, according to Fehlmann. There are three working titles at the moment, Cydonia is one of them. But the title depends completely of the artwork Alex will come up with. There is one track with Robert Fripp on it. And at the moment Alex, Thomas and Fripp are working om a new album. In march they go into the studio with each other to finish it. Probably it will be releases on Fripp's label. Just like Alex, Fehlmann finds the FFWD album the best thing The Orb has ever done. I asked why it took them so long to finish the new Orb album and he answered that an good album is just like good wine. It need some time to gets better. And during this proces they constant add and take away things. He also talked about Alex and told me that Alex is the one that's gets the best out of every person involved. He told me when Andy and Thomas made any track, it isn't an Orb track before Alex gets his hands on it. No matter how beautiful the track is, it isn't an Orb track before Alex played with it. This week I'm going to write the articles. When I find any details on the tape you should know about, I let you know. Later Nico ***** i can also add that i spoke to andy yesterday, and he told me that the album was finished - they've been editing/arranging it for the last few weeks. i'm hoping to see andy tomorrow, and hopefully i'll get hold of a tape once it's all been okayed.... l8r. - -- Smiley spares list at http://come.to/SmileyWeb # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Feb 1999 09:40:56 -0600 From: holli Subject: (orb) RLJ & LFC Okay, I haven't read the entire string of messages about LeVar Burton and Rickie Lee Jones - but what has led to the absolute belief that it isn't LeVar on the track? Depends on the crowd. 303 vs. 909 is probably more common, I thinks. And of course, you must covet these little boxes even though so many better alternatives exist. > 5. When travelling, one of the first things you do is look for a store that > sells vinyl. Hell, I do that in my own damn city. From the part of LA I'm in, it's a 60 mile hike to the more "proper" LA area and the record stores out there are very different. This drove my better half nuts for the longest time until she started finding stuff she liked too. >4. You can identify a track within the first 5 seconds of play, even when it's > being mixed with another track. Actually, the sound of UNMIXED tracks when there is a *CLEAN* break to mix over is painful. Or you start thinking "you know, I know what track would mix perfectly with this..." And of course the slightest error in a mix makes you cringe. This last part still bugs my better half since she can rarely hear the little mistakes. Another painful thing to hear is dancy music where the drummer isn't keeping a near perfect beat. ("Damnit! It's unmixable!") > 3. You start calling songs "tracks". You mean there are people who don't call them tracks? > 2. A constant thought is, "Need more bass." Constant thought 2: "I know what would be the perfect sound for right now." Heard in my living room this evening when I recalled the lyrics to a late 80's Salt'n'Pepa track: "You can remember all the damn words to that song but you can't remember to get milk. I wanted to know if it was worth getting. They also have morphology for about the same price, is that one any good? Also, I am looking for some rarer Orb stuff, would anyone on here that has a lot of Orb stuff be willing to CD-R for me, I have some stuff that someone may want to trade, or I can pay for the CD-R, etc. Thanks! - -Nick ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Feb 1999 10:07:30 -0500 (EST) From: "Benjamin L. I I seem to remember hearing some people complain about the Isotank saying that they ordered morphology and recieved a CD-R. Just to warn you, I'd ask them first if it's an actual copy (usually a good idea when dealing with Orb boots anyways). # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Feb 1999 08:15:39 EST From: LiquidW@aol.com Subject: (orb) kinda relevant......... I know for a fact that they're making cdrs of Morphology with crappy color copies of the artwork and selling them at $20 a pop! (kinda pricey for a cd-r, don't ya think?) i'd be extremeley wary of anything rare they claim to have. you'd do much better to arrange a cd-r swap with a list member than give them money (to add insult to injury - they have a no returns policy, and i actually had to fight with them for no less that 6 months to get a refund) they weren't the least bit apologetic, and didn't feel like they were doing anything wrong, since these are bootlegs to begin with... i, on the other hand, felt extremely ripped off. caveat emptor rachel (who's still feeling salty over the who escapade) Rachel Webmistress http://www.thewasteland.com 510-647-3535 ext 109 # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Feb 1999 21:05:19 +0100 From: Marcus Subject: Re: (orb) Anyone seen me? I can hit different places each weekend for over a year without repeating. (Between the Valley and San Diego) There are so many record stores, flea markets (get there before it gets warm) and antic stores to hit. I'm in Orange County so I'm kind of in the middle. Since I collect and play Electronic Dance music more than anything else, I really miss Record Reaction in Long Beach. It used to be like hitting a jackpot every time I'd spend an hour checking those $1.98 bins. Found a few Orb tracks there.
