It wasn't my idea in the first place, but I think it's a great idea, and I have the resources to make it happen so I'm taking the ball. I'm an ISP, so setting up a new, bannerless website for me is easy and free. I'm also willing to spring for a new domain to host it on. It's a hobby of mine to look for cool, available domain names and keep a list of them in case I feel like registering them some day. I have two suggestions, and if one of you goes out and registers one of these, well, I guess I can't stop you, but we could do it on any of these names which are still available: ultraworld.org orbfans.com (or .org, or .net) I would like the list's input on which domain name you think would be cool, or if you have any suggestions for a different one, but like I said, I'll go ahead and pay for it as soon as a consensus is reached. As far as design goes, I think it would be best to work with one developer. I'm not willing to be the selector of the developer, but I can tell you that I've seen Eric's site and it's great, and I've heard some good things about Rachel, too. I've also seen some of Holli's shockwave stuff which was great as well (by the way, holli, I haven't forgot about you with the design for the AMA -- just too busy to worry about it right now!). I'll just leave it to the developers to hack that issue out, but realistically it should be whoever has the most time. What we're trying to design isn't rocket science, a huge amount of technique is not required. How I envision the site to work: I envision a password protected form that the orb list members can fill out on the site that will comprise their BIO info. An image file can be specified in the BIO form as well, then that image can be FTP'd up to a directory on the website. Then Mr/Mrs Web Designer can take that form information and image and display it in some cool format. The list will need to come up with the information we want to have comprise the BIO information: favorite orb experience, favorite album, what you do for a living, etc. What do you think? - - Scott # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Jun 1999 09:25:12 +0100 From: Jean Christophe DERRIEN Subject: (orb) New/Old message (REMIX ALERT !)
