People...Space is nice, but it is not worth busting your hump over, unless you are a fanatical Orb/KLF completist. (like me) ;) To me, it sounds very much like a demo of ABtU, less all of the really clever bits. It is good, but not great. In my view, Space would fit neatly around Earth (gaia), if you remove all of the samples from Earth (gaia). (Since that is supposedly exactly what Jimmy Cauty did to Alex's contributions, I don't find that too surprising.) Now, the "original" mix of what became Space that Jimmy and Alex were working on may well have been a masterpiece in its own right... I'd like to hear other people's opinions, though... (oooh, i'm asking for it now, aren't i? cheeky girl) so i'm comparing the 2 versions of the double UF Orb cds that i have... one of which i bought in 92, so i'm assuming its an original pressing, while the other i aquired last weekend, bearing an "original issue" sticker. both have the same catalogue number, etc. etc. now here's the catch: the cd flips out differently. in the case i've had for ages, the left hand side (closest to the spine) flips to the right (which i find to be delightfully counter-intuitive) while the version i got last weekend has the right side flip to the left (much like turning pages in a book). ok, if that even made any sense at all, my question is: why are they different? =) rachel # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 03 Aug 1999 16:30:16 -0700 From: Chris Johnson Subject: Re: (orb) subtleties > ok, if that even made any sense at all, my question is: why are they > different? Perhaps the case was replaced at some point? Lord knows some of the thin 2-CD cases are designed appallingly poorly, and break easily. (Like the one for one of the U.F.Off 2-CD sets...a *flexible* hinge? How long is that expected to last?) Also, it is not unknown for packaging to be switched in the middle of a production run, much less between multiple runs. I realize this has been of no use whatsoever. :) Chris np: Icons of the Orb # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Aug 1999 01:42:05 +0200 From: "Dr.Winston O'Boogie" Subject: SV: (orb) subtleties > ok, if that even made any sense at all, my question is: why are they > different? >=20 > =3D) > rachel - -- Will talking u.f.orb... (like me) ;) To be honest, I feel the same way... I have this on MP3, and it's simply kinda dissappointing. I was expecting it would be dope since all other collaborations between cauty & paterson have been, but keep in mind that HALF of the material was stripped off before release. You can tell that something's missing. > To me, it sounds very much like a demo of ABtU, less all of the really > clever bits. It is good, but not great.
