Yet, if you don't buy a promo version (one stamped such) then there's not exactly a 'not for resale' statement, which implies that it could be resold ad nauseum. Nevertheless, the artist gets screwed outta royalties from reselling anyway. And they don't get paid royalties on promos regardless. However, despite the otherworldly, exploratory sounds implied, Cydonia breaks little new ground. A vast majority of the tracks on Cydonia launch safely from the base camp of sample-heavy dub and Brian Eno-inspired ambience from which Orb's music since 1989 has been developed. Tracks vary in velocity and originality, though almost all are competent. "Plum Island," for instance, is prime material for the intro to a Massive Attack tune, while "Thursday's Keeper" is the only track close to the invigorating tempo of Orblivion's "Toxygene," though without the engaging melodic clamor. Dissonance is at a minimum on Cydonia, and the dread of the unknown only surfaces on the standout centerpiece "A Mile Long Lump of Lump," the only song that slowly pulses like a Pink Floyd album (one of Paterson's strongest influences). Many track lengths here stay closer to a more pop-friendly four or five minutes, save for the album closer, "Terminus," a return to freeform ambient house exploration true to the Orb's origins. Recently, frontman Dr. Alex Paterson took to the road, riding the wheels of steel as the opening DJ on the Juno Reactor tour. Paterson's set, for the most part, consisted of somewhat jaggedly mixed classic tracks from the early to mid-'90s. Cydonia conjures a similar sense of scattered nostalgia. The huge, ever-growing pulsating brain behind the Orb now throbs a bit more demurely, but it still has a heart, albeit beating for '93. - -> rachel Migoto - Marvelous New Media Design http://www.migoto.com 415.355.0587 # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2001 20:50:22 EST From: Ovation15@aol.com Subject: (orb) once more 12" i got the 12" today (12 is 767/562 969-1). the cover is cool. is there 2 versions of the 12"? i know there is 2 diff CDs. gemini # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2001 20:21:15 -0700 From: "Jeff Stratton" Subject: RE: (orb) once more 12" supposedly there is another to be released within the week. does anyone have any kind of resource to obtain the promo's?
