My favorite used CD store (Record Trader in Reseda) has unceremoniously closed. I've been almost exclusively patronizing this store for used CDs for over a decade, and need to find a replacement. The problem is, Record Trader had a rare combination of attributes that I've never found in any of the other stores I've tried. They were cheap, had a wide selection of relatively obscure material, and had a large amount of promos for current releases. I've tried a bunch of other stores over the years, but they've all come up short. While the mighty Amoeba is opening a branch in LA, and I expect to be patronizing them, that won't be 'til much later in the year, and I need an interim source. The ideal replacement candidate will have most or all of the following attributes: Cheap: ("new" releases no more than $8.99, and a wide selection of CDs for $3.99-$5.99) Lots of promos: (lots of industry people unloading their swag) Diversity of stock: (variety of genres, not just rock or electronica; also has lots of obscure, culty material; I primarily buy various styles of "electronica" at this point, but also like goth, industrial, new wave, certain "classic rock" artists (primarily Bowie), "alternative" (early 90s-style, not late 90s cock-rock), torch, etc.) In or near the San Fernando Valley: (West LA, Hollywood, and Pasadena are about as far as I'll consider going; I live in North Hollywood and work in Chatsworth, FWIW) Good hours: (open late; has periods of time with few customers (at least during the week)) Good to excellent selection of new stock: (imports & domestic, vinyl & CD, singles & albums, independent & corporate) Used vinyl: (decent stock of used vinyl a plus, but not necessary) Are there any more Record Traders still open? (I think they were a small chain.) Stores that won't make it: Moby Disc, Penny Lane, Second Spin (all tend to be over-priced, and/or have crappy selections) Poo-Bah's and Aaron's (great selection, but over-priced and over-crowded) Noise Noise Noise (good selection, pricing a bit on the high side, and too far) Stores I'm curious about (and would love to hear reviews of): Rockaway Records Please share your opinions; I need to find another decent used CD store! Was it an Autolump single? Great artwork, I kept on seeing you slide that eye out of the sleeve. But I don't want this to sound like I was stalking you. The show was great! Really enjoyed the new stuff. I think 'Mile long...' opened up just after Jim Morrison's 'The End' from Apoc now, with the Helicopters fluttering about. Then was 'Ghost Dancing' which was great!! And then another song from Cydonia that I wasn't sure of...then a block of the oldies but goodies and LX really enjoyed building the crowd up and then shutting them down, it was funny to watch the floor go wild and then just stop. I must mention that the crowd was quite unique, a lot of puffers and no kiddie ravers really. Definitely a few receeding hairlines. Back to the new stuff, LX threw in a few new songs at the end that I didn't recognize. And I must mention that the live bass was a good treat. And the fact that the 'ORB' was in fact all of Witchman and Autolump on stage together. It was like the Parliament of Funkadelic shows. You could really see that LX was happy and dancing about and having a great time. All in all the tightest and most original show of Orb that I think I've seen. Hope everyone had a good time! And get to see them if they come to your 'hood. AMKontrabecki P.S. As I was standing in line I was thinking that the list should have shirts made up or something for ID in a crowd. I was at the first US stop in Boyton Beach too and I got the chance to meet John Roome thee Witchman (xsigned my personal NXTC Surfboards hat) I snuck backstage after the gig and told Simon Phillips and Fil and John that they were great. I told the Witchman that he could come back to S. FL ASAP and keep the Orb going strong and youthful and not to stop. The best part of the show was the doobie during Perpetual Dawn and remaining high right after the way Alex made Ybor City's Ritz Theatre ceiling smoke (literally) during his DJ set vs. Le Petit Orb "Once More". The entire club turned frenzy as the tennis-shoes-in-a-dryer-effect took place. All I wished for was Alex could have us all cybercryscinergenically frozen us in time that way. The two madams closest to me... "know wot I mean" ; ) This won't make any sense to you unless you dance orbearnauts!!! Dance! Thrity bucks taken care of, LX floated us through a hysterical Orb set... EDM has got to be heard live. Right then, there, with us, I really think that song gave me ghost like visions of me and Andy Hughs skanking feeling like Orb fans do, like you love to... Is it true Alex are you going to make it back to S. FL later on? " The best show I have ever seen." Yep. Yes really! "Hung out afterwards to try to catch up with Alex but had NO LUCK!" He went to a bar someone said.... So what?!?, the other guys are so strong Fil especially. Gab it up with them as LX likes to remain faceless. Go and confrence wit the other lads and tell them that they left Joseph S. Hannah still vibrating!! Anyone out there have any better luck then me?! Chicago calls!!! They were throwing down some Badorb records, were they not?? that was definitely some of the best techno i've ever heard... and Witchman just stormed the whole place.
