The remixes by Thrash are as follows: - - KrispDoubleUMix - - HairyButterMix (on the AA side). The question - Is the Ruby(i)con Revisited (Bootleg) CD by Tangerine Dream actually an Orb Rexix CD? Current Info-- Robin the actor-bloke, finally caught up with himself and gave me the info on the CD he has. The front cover is the same as the one shown on the Tangerine Dream Bootleg site, (mainly red - with a "paint dripped/splash" effect). On the cover it says Rubycon Revisited On the spine it says Rubicon Revisited Inside cover - a black&white picture of an old-style band. On the CD - Letters in red "Evil Ear" CD Catalogue number EVIL001 The CD was given to Robin by a record company rep who stated it was The Orb remixing Tangerine Dream tracks. I've checked Lazlo's discography and there is no mention of it. Thanks to Thomas "Spear Man", I have seen it listed on a Tangerine Dream Bootleg site. Thomas also owns a copy of the CD. I understand there are a few of these CD's floating about on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. If anyone else can enter the debate and can give a "yes or no" it would be appreciated. They took over the adjoining half of the building and turned it into a "swing bar". The log-cabin look has been redone as well, some random artist did some nice things with chaotically tiled wood on the outside. The place looks nice, but it's still the same old meat market. I think Playboy rated it one of the best bars in the US, apparently. 'Best Bar' may include getting laid by someone with little scruples afterward, given that this was the opinion of Playboy. Eben, did you tell me this? The words that came to me on trying to describe 'Koots' once were "The highest class hole-in-the-wall dive bar there is." They still have all the local heavy metal cover bands playing there, too. Can't stand the place, but if you're trying to get as drunk as possible in the middle of a jostling crowd of random humans on your 21st birthday I suppose it's worth the trip. Putting aside the v1.0 and v2.0 "preliminary" versions, I have both the "released" US version and the UK version that includes "EDM." Is there any reason for me to get the Japanese version? # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 May 2001 17:24:31 -0400 From: Justin Roby Subject: Re: (orb) Cydonia version differences Let's see: (for Cydonia v1.0 tracks that survived the transition, i.e., no Freely Wheely, Ralf, or Yungle) Once More: subtle mixing differences. The version on the commercial release is a bit shorter. Promis: pretty much the same, as is Ghost Dancing. Turn it Down--No differences A Mile Long Lump of Lard--big differences. The v1.0 version has the rhythm track sounding consistently loud and chunky throughout, while the commercial release changes the sound a lot, sometimes dropping the drum track out entirely, filtering it, etc. Terminus--no differences that I noticed. That isn't strictly true. There were at least 4 pre-release versions of Cydonia (in order): The original 2CD promo, with longer, rougher versions of the tracks (I'd kill for CD-Rs of this, BTW) ;) Cydonia Version 1 (the version most of us have; the one on the FTPs) Cydonia Version 2 (the main difference being swapping JoYH for Freely Wheely; the other tracks are still the same length. While I haven't done a detailed comparison, I don't believe there are mix differences between this and Version 1; if there are differences, they would probably be minor, knob-twiddling sorts of things) Cydonia (the final promo version; identical to the US and European commercial release--it lacks EDM) There may well be other versions of Cydonia, but they would have been internal promos or artist "proofs", produced in extremely small numbers. (The 2CD version is probably such a beast; the other 3 versions were produced in fairly large numbers.) Chris (who'd really, really like to trade for the 2CD version of Cydonia, now that the finished product is finally out...I have lots to trade, including originals of some rare Orb goodies...like the Aubrey Mixes, Orbscure Trax, etc...) np: Talking Heads - Live 8/3/83 # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 May 2001 18:04:18 -0400 (EDT) From: Tim Baker Subject: (orb) Alex's DJ set in London. Last night LX had a DJ set at the Lush nighclub in London... I had never been there before, but it was a pretty neat place. He started off with the phone call at the beginning of Towers of Dub, then into LFC, I think it was the Danny Tengalia Detour Mix, but I am not 100% sure on that. The place was pretty full now, so my friend and I enjoyed some quality drugs and then went to this red room and sat in some big wicker chairs. I felt quite messed up while the good doctor mixed familiar Orby samples (begginning of Blue Room, 'Well get on it, it's your turn', a couple bits I recognized from Mile Long Lump of Lard & Chill Out, etc.) into some housey house music. Then he played some more Orb stuff, A Huge Pulsating Brain, which was mixed into the beginning of Smack my Bitch Up, then some Massive Attack, I think. Good stuff. The red room we were in lead up to the DJ booth thing, so we ventured up there and stood next to him while he played more housey stuff. My friend tried to bum a cigarette off the resident DJ guy and I greeted and left-handedly shook Alex's hand. He played another Orb song, Once More, stopped it, and started to spin it fast before letting it play again at normal speed. Then some more non-Orb housey stuff, before he left to the washroom and the resident DJ guy took over. I guess he was on for about 2 or 2 1/2 hours. So yeah, all in all it was pretty good, he was in a good mood, and the music was great stuff at times (although I would have liked to hear more Orb stuff, of course). And no one in the crowd had any glowsticks, either. I was the scrawny high kid in the blue Orb shirt, if anyone else on the list was there... _______________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? (I'm a Mac girl, BTW) AFAIK, you're scrawed. :P For Windows, there is StreamBox Ripper (which while officially unavailable, can be found on the net), but I don't know of anything for the Mac. Ripper might run under one of the Mac's Windows emulation thingys, though. RealLabs are extremely protective of their codec; AFAIK, at this point, there is *no* commercial product that will convert RA files into another format, except possibly RealLabs' professional (i.e. expensive) product. (There are lots of programs that will generate RA files, though.) Speaking of RA files, the 5/17 Groovetech set is up. I sent a reply about vinyl vs CD vs MP3, and it did not get through. Aside from the size of the mail (mine was not too long), and amount of quoted text (mine contained one quoted line), I can think of one other possible thing. Does the xmissions list server mailer do a reverse name lookup on the domain the mail is being posted from? As in the following: Mail arrives from babylon@egenius.org server does a lookup on egenius.org and receives the answer: 208.9.2.13 server does a lookup on 208.9.2.13 and received the answer: egenius.org server accepts the mail and forwards it to the list. This may cause problems if reverse DNS is not configured correctly. Currently my upstream ISP has broken the delegation for my reverse DNS. babylon@egenius.org # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 May 101 22:24:57 -0400 (EDT) From: babylon@egenius.org Subject: Re: (orb) mail not getting to the list Well damn that one got through. Why!?!?!? > Gavin Here is what I have concluded, and possibly it might apply to the rest of you who are having this same problem. Whenever I post from home it goes through just fine, but when I post from my office, which is a different email address, the message doesn't go through. I don't even get a bounce. The message simply vanishes. I believe that it is because my office email address is not registered as being on the list (so it gets rejected by majordomo some how), but my home address is registered (so anything i send from here goes along ok). I've seen some very long posts on this list that obviously were not rejected. (to Gavin) Was this post longer than the one you left after returning from your US tour? That was a very long post and we all got it.
