What we are doing is NOT enough. A pilot got through the metal detectors without proper identification. A fellow co-worker GOT THROUGH WITH A POCKET KNIFE!!! This is a VERY severe problem, especially in light of Tuesday's events. It is too easy to get through security with a weapon. I have created a potential scenario: You take a razor and tape it to the inside of your belt, near where the belt buckle is. It could also be taped to the bottom of your shoe. On your carry-on, you bring a toothbrush that has been cut down the middle on one of the ends. You also bring some kind of tape in your carry-on, so once you board the aircraft, you can go inside the bathroom and securely tape the razor inside the toothbrush - creating a makeshift knife (sharper than most conventional knives!). You are then capable of a hijacking. WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE We NEED armed federal agents to administer airport security at the security check points. Airport security, from what I understand, is administered by independent companies that pay minimum wages to their employees. We NEED to make it mandatory to place federal agents (armed with taser guns) on ALL commercial flights - international and domestic. This means that the federal government may have to set up a new a new agency for terrorism and air travel. THEIR IS NO WAY TO PREVENT WEAPONS FROM GETTING ON PLANES!!!! The sooner we Americans realize this, the safer we ALL will be. Please forward. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 20:17:28 -0700 From: "gliddenm@nettaxi.com" Subject: (orb) back on the list... first off, i'm sure others have said it, but i just want to extend my wishes to everyone affected by this week's events (which means all of us). secondly, i just got back on the list today...after the flamefest that apparently took place last month or so i somehow stopped receiving the list...not sure wussup; i figured the list was no more..thankfully i discovered today that things are still going on... in any case, i'm glad to be back...i finally broke down and got auntie aubrey's part 2 last night...what's up with the different versions? i remember there might be different UK and US versions of this, but the tracklistings i found online (cdnow, amazon, etc) had different ones than the US cd i bought last night (mine starts off with pato banton, no KLF in sight)..anyway, i was very pleased with the disc overall- i hadn't heard many of those mixes...and again, the packaging is pretty awesome :) anyway, i look forward to some orb discussion..orb is what i need right now.. matt. - ------------------------------------------------------------ Nettaxi would like to ask for your help in donations to the RED CROSS today! http://www.nyredcross.org/donate/ # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Sep 2001 04:43:48 EDT From: Ovation15@aol.com Subject: (orb) test see if this works # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Sep 2001 16:51:14 EDT From: Bbbrooo@aol.com Subject: (orb) Just an Orb minute - Bill’s I don’t know about you but in these emotionally draining times I am in need of a bit of R&R, so what I suggest is: “Just an orb minute”. Obviously, if no one else posts, there is little interest and I will drop it. It is an invite to contribute a TRUE account of a moment involving orb music that you really enjoyed. Maybe it was that magic sunset during an orb concert at Glastonbury all those years ago, maybe it was sharing a j with Dr. A and then seeing him kick musical arse in a small club. Or the very first time you heard the orb, that night you got so wasted you woke up in the parking lot. Or that night you purchased UFOrb, then listened to Towers of Dub 3 times in a row because you were dancing so much you hit the “repeat” button on your discman and never realized! Anyway, kick off, “Just an Orb minute - Bill’s”. Background: My father had died a few months before, it was Thanksgiving (end of November), and after major disagreements with an employer, crazily quit with no other job to go to, and very little savings. With the vacation time owed I rushed the family to Hawaii. After scuba diving with my stepson on his first real dive and then a lazy day on the beach, we ate and watched the sunset from the small apartment balcony. The kids went to bed, more Mai Tai’s, helped wife to bed, then wandered down onto the beach with my newly purchased Adventures Beyond CD and player. After a couple of hits I headed bare foot out to the end of a sandy spit. Ahead of me a half moon and a planet (?) were in line with the spit and I could hear the waves breaking down the beaches running on each side. Then I hear the beginning of a “HUGE EVERGROWING……”. I was thinking of my family and the great day we had had, listening to actual quadraphonic waves, the orbs stereo waves and their beautiful music, while remembering my childhood days on a beach in Devon, England. It’s hard to explain but suddenly at that moment everything made sense, we are affected by all these external things around us but forget to make the most of what really matters. Whatever we do, we are all only here for a short while so take stock of your life - what is important? thanks, bill # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Sep 2001 17:00:14 EDT From: Bbbrooo@aol.com Subject: (orb) "Just an orb minute" -Bill's (without the HTML, sorry) I don't know about you but in these emotionally draining times I am in need of a bit of R&R, so what I suggest is; "Just an orb minute" Obviously, if no one else posts, there is little interest and I will drop it. I never felt that free, and I'm quite sure things were never the same after that show. The spirit of the Orb took me over from that point on. Last week Tuesday I had Orblivion in my discman on the way to work in the west village in NYC. My first listen to that in quite a while.. Lallapalooser has hit the Gorge by George (Washington that is) and I have taken and paid for my three friends aaron, rocky, and eric (aaron's brother) to come with me and see the Orb (and some other bands too I guess) The Orb is scheduled to be the last band (yay the entire day is an opening act) and so the day drags on and on (hot muthero' a day) and finally the last band before The Orb disbands their gear and leaves. OK...so my friends have NO idea what's in store for them... after what seems like forever the roadies get the pyramid and screens set up (remember those) and I'm like shaking (for reals). FINALLY they like appear out of nowhere. (I swear I was watching the keyboards and suddenly andy, phil and the great one are there. The crowd goes "YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" and there they go... I think they played blueroom first I think (memory serves me when it wants to) and then slowly faded in loving you (ripperton style) and I was like (to my friends) "get ready" and suddenly like a bursting dam the ahhhhhhhhhhhahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh kicked into the dance edition of ahegbtrftcotu (and I swear to god, to this day, was the most exciting moment in my 26 years on this great planet...) Loud as hell too! I couldn't believe how much power they had in those speakers...I look over at eric and he's like totally going apeshit dancing like the chick from flashdance, funny as hell. ok so finally when they played Outlands, everyone about shit when the LOW bass kicked in... it felt like a HOT WIND, the only way to describe it, almost painful... maybe that was just mass shittings... I donno.... but I never recovered from that night and I probably never will until I see them live again (Only to start this all over again). But then two nights later they dropped one of the most experimental and out there sets I've ever seen at La Luna, the one two punch of the tight slammin' 45 minute set at the gorge and the weirdness in Portland definitely made for a memorable Orb-weekend.
