Date: 11 Jun 2001 12:40:09 +0200test Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that when Orbital have toured (ever since 96 really), they hardly ever include any tracks from Snivilisation in their sets? Now I listen to the recording from Italy '95, and it's so good because I've never heard Forever, Sad But True, Kein Trink Wasser (oh yes!!) live before, and I fear that if Orbital continue in the same trend, I never will. I mean, from the Yellow/Green you kinda always get Satan and Chime, from Brown you get Halcyon, Impact, if you're lucky maybe even Remind or Lush, and from In Sides and newer stuff you could get anything. But Sniv gets left out, although the album has a lot of danceable songs I personally feel would be something I would gladly write "Tune!" all over my body and get up on someone's shoulders and flash to everyone if I got to hear one of its tracks. Kinda makes the Orbital's mix of NL; Nothing Left Out, have an ironic ring to it. :-) In no way a miserable rant, just a mental note (worth £0.02) I made during the playback of Sniv and this '95 bootleg. /Trym . o 0 (trym - teeba@start.no <> jazzistant@start.no) Få din egen @start.no-adresse gratis på http://www.start.no/ # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Arfie Mansfield Subject: Re: (orbital) Sniv tracks never played in concerts since '96? REAL lo-fi/minimal/mathematic-modeled music. good enough that i bought his lp. the second guy who came on, some japanese name, was QUITE the abstract goose. 15 minutes of a windchime loop that sounded offbeat with a constant bass rumble and skipping/popping noises...it was interesting but thank god i had my earplugs. Mouse on mars were REALLY good. If anyone has the oppurtunity to see them, i would...I had only heard a few songs by them before i went so it was all new to me. However, upon coming home and downloading some songs they played, i think the live show is MUCH MUCH better. They were surprisingly of all things *gasp* FUNKY! hell yea, the live drummer and bassist really added to it. Tortoise the main act is someone i had heard but knew nothing baout. They turned out to be almost EXACTLY what i expected, and while I have to give them the utmost respect (these guys KNOW their music theory), it just wasnt really my thing. They did however play track 3 off TNT which was cool to see. Me and Marc actually ended up leaving when they came back for a second encore...so no idea how long they played. Good show if anybody has the oppurtunity to go. Vert was especially interesting, and mouse on mars jsut jammed. DEFINITELY worth the $16 ticket price (or the $21.96 ticket price if you go through ticketmaster, those mother fuckers). Buy the ticket at the door or someone else, and take the $6 you saved and go buy the Mouse on Mars autgraphed baseball. -nog # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Ben Knowles Subject: (orbital) MoM/vert/tortoise/takemura Date: 14 Jun 2001 15:54:38 -0600 (MDT) > good enough that i bought his lp. the second guy who came on, some japanese > name, was QUITE the abstract goose. 15 minutes of a windchime loop that > sounded offbeat with a constant bass rumble and skipping/popping noises...it > was interesting but thank god i had my earplugs. you're talking about nobukazu takemura. he is QUITE the well-known electronic artist in idm circles. that's a pretty good description of his music by the way, although you didn't seem to excited about his set. i really like some of his stuff, although i do think it all sounds somewhat similar. i like how he mixes melodies with a kind of strange non-rhythm structure (ie. those skipping/popping noises). it's definitely a different listening experience. nub # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Aimee Couture Subject: Re: (orbital) [OT] mouse on mars/tortoise live (somewhat long) Date: 14 Jun 2001 19:04:00 -0400 I saw nobukazu takemura and tortoise at DEMF in detroit a few weeks ago.. Date: 15 Jun 2001 07:58:53 +0200test And just when I had lost faith in that an artist nowadays could follow up their first, critically acclaimed album with a second, Radcliffe and Buxton have done just that. We're talking an album that is varied, very danceable and also listenable in private. Gone however is the ragga- vocals found on Remedy, for example the excellent-excellent track Jump'n'shout, and the female vocals have got a firmer grasp on more, if not most, tracks. Then you have the familiar Jaxx-sound, the deep basslines and moving rhythms that makes it hard for your head not to bob along with the songs. I won't go into each track in detail, that's something I want to leave up to the listeners so they can get the same experience I've had. But suffice to say, Basement Jaxx are one of recent years most important, refreshing and central injections into the dance/ragga/soulful r'n'b-like soul;)/UK house scene. Get Rooty, if you liked Remedy and try to top that for your second release, you'd get pretty close to Rooty. ...and they're coming to Roskilde and Glastonbury! :) /Trym . o 0 (trym - teeba@start.no <> jazzistant@start.no) Få din egen @start.no-adresse gratis på http://www.start.no/ # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Ed Lomas" Subject: Re(2): (orbital) [OT] mouse on mars/tortoise live (somewhat long) Date: 15 Jun 2001 10:59:06 +0100 stargurl@shush.com writes: Although, I would have to say that the highlight came not at the festival itself, but at an afterparty we found where Richie Hawtin spun an 8.5 hour set. Thanks RT for the new mp3s! Saw 2 great bands for FREE last night. The first was this jazz guy named Ola Daru who is groooooovy. He was a sideman back in the day [60 & 70's] He's now back with his own group and effortlessly plays guitar, bass, trumpet, and sings all the vocals too. Then Dawn and I skipped over to the local pub to see Nashville's Bone Pony. These 3 guys are pure swamp stomp and they all swap instruments, drums, guitars, mandolins, banjo. I also have the new CD (well, not so new anymore), Shango, which I think is rather good, even though it departs from Juno Reactor's previous material quite a lot. The more ambient tracks towards the end are very well done. Tracks such as Masters of the Universe, Insect and Nitrogen echo previous Juno Reactor work more than the other material of the album (dancier and more electronic). Overall, the album has a very "organic" feel, original material and although I was disappointed at first, it grew on me (via voluntary and involuntary listening :O] ). - Oleg # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Kevin Gomes" Subject: Re: (orbital) OT: Juno Reactor Date: 15 Jun 2001 18:46:35 -0700 > I saw Juno Reactor twice last week (Friday and Sunday) and I liked > the show a lot.
