For instance, how >many channels, inputs, effects, beat synchronizer, etc. ok, i have the gemini 1998 catalogue here (you can find all gemini stuff also on www.geminidj.com). let's see, i talked with a dj about the gemini PS-646 PRO mixer, and he liked what it featured: 10" (techno) stereo rack mixer 4 channels. 3 phono, 6 line and 2 mic inputs. true cut feature (-26dB) for bass, mid and high of each channel to create unusual special effects. recessed removable crossfader. beat sync indicators. dj mic Neutric combo 1/4" or xlr jack. gain controls for each channel. talkover. balanced and unbalanced master outputs. dj booth output. dual mode display. cue section. cue split. it looks like a small one, but the specs are quite nice... the 676 is pretty the same, only features only 3 channels, but a 12 second sampler... but you don't need a sampler on your mixer... you'll better of with 4 channels for 2 phono, a cd and a separate sampler. dedicated samplers perform better than built-in... i could type over the whole mixer catalogue, but that would be useless... just go to www.geminidj.com > I'm totally new at >this and am very hungry for info. I heard a couple songs from his LP 'Colours'; and aside from 'Metropolis', which is good tune, the others sounded much too repetitve to me. I'd have to hope they're better than "Ain't Talkin' 'bout Dub". That was truly one of the worst dance/rock clashes I've ever heard. Yeah, if you like Cichilisuite, you'll love this album. I just gave it another listen - my favorite tracks are rae, underBOAC, corc, arch carrier and drane2. The rest of the tracks just escape me.. I find melve irritating as hell - why put such a pointless track on the LP? I just don't get the point at all... > > I'm with Steve on this, it's the best album of the year. Even better than > Plastikman. Well, I'd have to say I like 'Consumed' better than Autechre. And both way above 'mezzanine'. Although by far the best album for 98, for my ears, (this one might be 1997 though, I'm not sure of the release date.) is Amon Tobin's Permutations... This is just stunning work. For anyone who likes d'n'b, downtempo or trip hop, or any music with serious beats, this album is a must have...... Everytime I listen to this CD I just get this shitty grin on my face cause I love it so much ... :) This is the first Ninja Tune album I own, and its hard not to run straight back to the record shop and buy more of this label... Ok, enough babbling... I'm checking out their site and it looks nice. I'm planning to do some import ordering so I have a question for everyone. A question that evreyone has heard time and again, I know.. but bear with me one more time =) I'm looking to order some GOOD trance/techno imports... Orbital-esque stuff. So, what do you recommend that is very Orbital like. I know a lot of the names and stuff, so just spout some off that you have heard (or compilations you feel might be available that are good). Everyone has recommeneded Schematix which I am ordering. I also already have a lot of Salt Tank stuff which I feel sounds pretty close to Orbital. Any others? Any good compilations? Please help =) thanks in advance! One very usual subject of discussion on this list is suggestions of orbital-like music.... Well, I have recommended Jarre to readers here before, since that guy's been at the origins of the techno movement since the start, as much as Kraftwerk or that sexchange Carlos guy/gal who did the Clockwork orange music, or Vangelis.... Well, lately a remix CD of his last album has come out, and for those of you who especially like danceable music (like Orbital has often been mostly before Snivilisation), well this may be a good first contact... The CD is "Odyssey through O2", and is very nice. If you want to hear more, "Oxygene" (1976) and "Oxygene 7-13" (1997) are extremely great music, I can't see anyone regret buying those, they are total masterpieces. Oh well. I thought I'd quit long before on the Jarre advocacy stuff :) Derf +------------------------------------+ | even a stopped clock | | gives the right time twice a day | | | | fourni01@gel.ulaval.ca | | http://www.gel.ulaval.ca/~fourni01 | | ICQ 4731515 | +------------------------------------+ # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jul 1998 23:11:32 -0400 From: "=?iso-8859-1?B?RnLpZOlyaWMgRm91cm5pZXI=?=" Subject: (orbital) Plaid I'd like to hear what you people think of the group Plaid, on Warp, and especially their album "not for threes"?
