WHOA! RUN do not walk to your store to purchase these titles. Retroish is actually better than Kraftwelt's last album "Electric Dimension" and have some absolutely killer tracks such as the title track, #4, #6, and especially #8. If you like Kraftwelt then I highly recommend this album. Actually, this album sounds like something Autechre might have done had they chosen to continue down the "Basscadet" path rather than head out into new territory with Amber and Tri Repeatae (two excellent albums that nontheless suffer a bit from the fact that they're both so damn WEIRD) Brace Yourself (an E.P.) is more typical Mike Paradinas....there are only 8 tracks here but most pass quality control (unlike a lot of what was found on U-Ziq's last LP "Lunatic Harness". Somebody should tell Mike to just do EPs....his finest work seems to surface on EPs. In a day and age when crap like Crystal Method and Fat Boy Slim are the faces of "Electronica" (aka shitty techno that gets airplay) it is quite a relief to know that somewhere out there innovative electronic music is still being made. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Oct 1998 13:19:29 -0400 From: "Morey Gamble" Subject: Re: (orbital) Orbital- bunch of responses > No kidding. So they pooled their four braincells together and found a name that sounds like a bad 80's sci-fi movie about a computer revolution. and walla~electronica~ "Rammstein"-the show last night I went to the "family values" tour. with such bands as orgy, limp bizkit, deejay punc-roc, ice cube and korn. but the best set there was Rammstein. oh my god did they kick ass. the first song "Rammstein" the lead singer lite himself on fire and sung the whol damn thing. than next he had some boots... that spit four feet of sparks out of his toes. he jumped off an amp and did four summersaults wich made hem look like sonic the hedghog. Than there was the crossbow, wich shot a line of fireworks around the stadium than the bow-part spit five feet of sparks while he spun. there was the exploding telephone, the burning keyboard and mic stands, spark shooting drumsticks, that crazy keyboardist, the prostetic penis wich never stopped ejaculaing and the kick-ass closing song "Engal" wich had flames spouting at the front of the stage and leadsinger wielding a blow-torch wich not only shot ten feet of flame but little balls that exploded in the air and showered sparks. damn this tops my list of live performances. sam. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Oct 1998 12:13:10 -0700 From: "Whiggy" Subject: Re: (orbital) commercials > Another was this one with some reference to ufo's. Just wanted some advice on some albums I've been hearing about. First off I've heard some good things about F.U.S.E. (Richie Hawtin)'s AI album Dimension Intrusion. What's it like, and is there anything you could compare his style to? What other names has Hawtin recorded under anywayz? And also what is Cichlisuite like? I keep hearing people mention "cichlisuite's style" but don't know what they mean. What is it like? Smooth, hard, edgy, drum'n'bass style? Is it worth getting in a contest against the Anti EP? And for the BT fans out there: which is better, Blue Skies part one or part two? These import singles are damn expensive so I gotta be choosy... And finally a question that's been nagging me: What's the track listing of FSOL's Dead Cities? There are 12 tracks on the disc but 15 lines on the track listing on the back of the case. You've got it right, as far as general release stuff, I think. The 'Halcyon' cd is the US release, and the Radiccio 1 & 2 (vinyl) and Radiccio (cd) are the UK releases. The reason 'Halcyon' is so hard to find is because it's been out of print for quite awhile, while the 'Radiccio' CD was reprinted a year or 2 ago. I haven't heard it either, but I've liked everything he's released so far, all the way back to the early deep dish stuff back in '94. I'll run through my own personal experience.. I've seen John Kelley twice. One time he was incredible, amazing. The second time he was horrible, didn't even keep the beats on half the time. Carl Cox I still haven't seen, but he's pretty widely considered to be more or less the best live DJ in the world. DJ Dan is awesome. Referred to by URB as "America's Most Beloved DJ", and he generally lives up to it. Dara I haven't seen, but the mix CD I have by him is excellent (I know this doesn't necessarily translate into a good live set). Cirrus is kinda iffy. Some cool songs, some questionable songs. In the context of this tour, they'll probably sound better than when I saw them. DJ Micro I've never seen, but is supposed to be pretty good. Darwin Chamber is kinda like a poor man's Uberzone. I didn't even know they (he?) performed live, but I imagine it's be pretty groovy. As for Keoki, who knows? Some people love him, some people hate him, sometimes he's great, sometimes he passes out on the decks while he's spinning. (Although a great deal has been made about him being clean now) I'm really not sure how he'll sound without the drugs.. All in all, I'd probably make the drive if it came that close and I had the money, even if it was only for Carl Cox and DJ Dan. - -Morey gandalf@wnc.com this planet is mine this planet is ours and we have got to live together i want my planet back # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 07 Oct 1998 19:12:07 CDT From: "Mehul Parekh I" Subject: Re: (orbital) No Subject Okay, I have both halycon and radiccio.
