Thanks Roberto ---------------------- Forwarded by Roberto Pozzi/IT/3Com on 06/05/98 18.58 --------------------------- Danilo Demarchi on 06/05/98 18.49.25 cc: Ecco cosa penso di chiedere: We recently bought two TotalControl from 3COM to manage our dialup users. At the moment we are using TACACS (xtacacsd 3.6 in a Digital UNIX OSF/1 system) for authentication, but for the authentication with your instrumentation we would (we must!) translate our password files (>1500 users) in RADIUS format. Our main goal is to use together the TotalControls and the CISCO2511s that we have in our POPs. The problem is the password format that in Tacacs is crypted. Is it possible to find a script or some software to translate the xtacacs password file in a Radius users file? Or at least translate the passwords in clean format (not crypted)? I know that, for example, with the Merit Radius server it is possible to interface the Radius with a Tacacs server, but I would prefere to have only the Radius daemon running because I think it is the cleanest solution and also because Merit Server does not support menus that are for me VERY important. Thanks in advance Se mi puoi dare una mano mi fai un favore eccezionale, in quanto in questo modo eviterei giri strani Radius/Tacacs. We have a new revision of EdgeServer PRO code called 2.1. This is basically an official maintanance release for the COM port /serial port emulation and Modem INIT string issues that were experienced with the EdgeServer 2.0 (build #134) initial release. This also replaces the Engineering release ER 182 that you may have been running to address some of the issues listed below. The code, Open/Closed issues list, and a new V.90/x2/ISDN connect message supported modem INF file are now available for testing at: http://reverb.ae.usr.com/edgepro.htm FIXES summary, **see web page above OPEN/CLOSED list for full list** - Opening of COM ports too quickly can cause some opens to fail - +++, ATH and DTR toggles do not always hang up modems - Global Modem init string needs to be alterable (remove the AT&F) - Packetbus sessions now come back after HiperDSP resets There will not be a email list for this beta, please send all feedback direct to me.. The question is that which parameters in the Quad modem could be adjusted to raise the connection rate, the current connection rate is 80%. The basic configuration is that: One T1 channelised-186 card (v3.5.0), 2 Quad modem cards (v5.1.7) & netserver (v.3.6.28). Previously, the connection rate is less than 30%. My customer needs any connections. I tried to fix it to 1200bps, it worked fine. But the customer hope the quad modem can connect to any speed. Let me make clear the status of failure, the modem returned the answer & then was handshaking for a long time till the calling modem cutting off. I check the status of "Reason of call failure" was "unspecified" from Performance at TCM. Thks! If your customer only needs 1200 baud, through TCM goto: Configure Program setting Signal Convert settings and disable ALL parameters that have V.32, V.32 Terbo, V.FC, V.34, V.34+, X2 and V90 and HST. Setting you DTE rate to 1200 might also force the issue. Disabling the above setting will allow both modem to handshake at the desried settings quicker and possilby provide the ability to connect with a higher percentage. jdm Raymond_Au@3com.com on 05/15/98 12:43:11 AM Please respond to rabid-dogs@xmission.com cc: Note: Some recipients have been dropped due to syntax errors. It rose up to 80% after I disable V.8 (S54=128). If you have such experience, pls advise me. Thanks! The router card (either NETServer or HiPer ARC) provides the NAS-Port-Type information in the RADIUS-Authentication-Request message. The customer would need to modify their RADIUS server slightly to (1) recognize this dictionary entry (this is often already done with more recent RADIUS servers), (2) add a field in the User Profile records that specifies the allowable service connection type, and (3) use this field in the request to match a field in the User Profile. The work -does- require a savvy programmer who is familiar with RADIUS protocols messages and database entry manipulation. We have for-a-fee-consultants here in Mt.Prospect if the customer needs assistance and/or a quick turn-around on the functionality (contact Sam Fousias). To this end, I would suggest that we find a RADIUS server that can act as a "translator" from RADIUS to XTACACS. We have a product that can do the translation to the TACACS+ protocol, but not the older XTACACS variation. I would suggest that you look into the product from Funk Software called "Steel Belted RADIUS" to see if they can support the translation function to XTACACS. I will also make a recommendation to our R&D group to implement the translation to XTACACS (in addition to the current TACACS+ support). Please note that any development we tackle would not be a quick turn-around, and we should look for another solution in this customer's case. Date: 31 May 1998 18:16:59 +0200 Hello William, First of all, I thank you for your precious information, the situation = is currently better in Microsoft. Due to the problem met on the HiPer DSP ( non recognition for analog or= digital callback ), it's necessary to fix analog or digital for the car= d ( at*v2=3D x ); the dial-in, call-back and multi-link features run perfec= tly for the digital case but it's not so obviously to obtain such a result = with the analog configuration, curious ? As the HiPer code is not fixed , Microsoft requests a back-up configura= tion in order to wait a reliable and stable configuration with a complete Hi= Per solution ( DSP and EDGEServer PRO cards ), with only the analog support= for dial-in and call-back features ( through the E1/PRI ), no digital suppo= rt. As the " Dual PRI and Quad modem " combination allows effectively an an= alog support, I'd like you confirm that the EDGEServer PRO card can run with= Dual PRI and Quad Modem cards. I suppose but I'm not sure, in the worst= case I'll put in place a chassis with a classic Edge card ( 48 simultaneaous calls max. ) for which the complete analog support is OK.= Thanks in advance for your response.
