Johnson calls for the legalization of everything from marijuana to heroin because he believes the U.S. anti-drug effort is little more than an expensive bust. "Control it, regulate it, tax it," Johnson said of recreational drugs. "If you legalize it we might actually have a healthier society." We most certainly would have a freer society. From the "Know your Customer" banking regulations to full scale midnight paramilitary attacks on the homes of American citizens, the "war on drugs" is more a war on millions of American people than anything else. Nearly every week there are news reports of police making "no knock" raids on people's homes, and killing innocent people in the process. And for what? What's the war about? Nothing more than to stop a few people from self-abuse. We tried that once with alcohol -- and the war on alcohol didn't work either. Last week, Governor Gary Johnson got a little company in his quest to decriminalize recreational drugs. And, this guy is getting the press and acceptance necessary to bring this problem forward for serious discussion. "I think the war on drugs is a miserable failure," said Minnesota's Governor Jesse Ventura in a special "Hardball" interview at Harvard University. Ventura went on to say that people are going to do stupid things. But we go down a slippery slope when we try to legislate against every stupid thing people might do. "I'm not pro-drug here. I'm against drugs," Johnson told a group at the Cato Institute last Tuesday. "Should you go to jail for just doing drugs? I say no. I say you shouldn't." It appears that Governor Johnson and Governor Ventura are in agreement: Regulate and tax the recreational drugs. Like recreational alcohol, keep recreational drugs away from kids and tax it. It should never be the business of government if an adult has a drink or smokes a joint. The so called "war on drugs" is totally unconstitutional, anyway. And this time, that's an easily provable fact. One need only read the Constitution to know why. Back in 1918, when the federal government wanted to ban intoxicating liquors, they knew it could not be done with a simple law passed by Congress and signed by the President. Any such law would have been unconstitutional and back then the Supreme Court enforced the Constitution better. No. More was needed. Constitutional authority. A Constitutional amendment. There is no Constitutional amendment giving the federal government authority to ban recreational drugs. There is no authority anywhere in the Constitution giving the federal government authority to forbid recreational drugs. The whole war on drugs is, therefore, an unconstitutional scam. The recreational drug trade in the United States is estimated to be a $200 billion a year business that caters to about 13 million Americans each month. But despite all law enforcement efforts in this war on drugs, only about 5 percent (maybe) of the illegal drugs coming into the United States are actually seized. The fact is, their price has decreased and the quality and availability have greatly improved over the years. Obviously, someone wants the stuff. The war on drugs was lost years ago. Yet, the fighting still continues via even more obnoxious laws stealing our freedom. Everyone's freedom. And today, that "war" actually harms more people than the drugs do. THEIR PLAN FOR CHANGE WORKED What an interesting development this is! Forty-one years after publication, an article titled "Current Communist Goals," which is an excerpt from "The Naked Communist," written by Cleon Skousen in 1958, is beginning to receive national prominence. W. Cleon Skousen, we should add, was an FBI agent, the police chief of Salt Lake City and a full professor at Brigham Young University. Skousen was also the head of the National Center for Constitutional Studies and the author of a number of other books and publications. Interestingly enough, the Skousen family is also directly related to Founding Father Benjamin Franklin. The first time around, this text was generally greeted with snickers and yawns. Much of the text accurately identified things to come; it's just that few in the United States believed it back around 1960. But, Rep. A. S. Herlong, Jr. of Florida believed. And he read part of it into the Congressional Record in 1963, where future Americans would be able to find it. And find it people have. Because of the good works of Forest Glen Durland, a semi-retired California teacher who realized the historical significance of the piece and posted it on his uhuh.com web site, the text has recently been extensively discussed in a wide variety of forums, from the Dr. Laura national radio program to the FreeRepublic.com web site. Back in the 1960s, few Americans realized exactly how active the communist operation was in the United States. Now that some of the old KGB records are becoming public, we see that there were massive communist disinformation operations designed to divide the American people and stir the forces of social and political discontent. As we published previously, a handful of communist agitators were actually responsible for instigating many of the riots and anti-Vietnam demonstrations back then. In fact, the 1958 text's item #19 actually mentions "use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack." And so they did. Quite successfully, too. "Down with the establishment" is but one memorable chant that had its origin with communist trained agitators. The useful idiots of the drug culture were but one of their tools of disruption back then. The "Current Communist Goals" text identifies many orchestrated mutations of American society. Most of these changes are so entrenched today that younger Americans actually think that is how our culture was intended to be. That is, some Americans do not fully understand the concept of freedom and liberty. They have been, what was called back then, "fully indoctrinated." For instance, one communist goal currently under debate in presidential campaign news is item #4 in the "Current Communist Goals" text: "Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war." Numbers 5, 6 and 7, respectively, call for: "Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites." "Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination." And, "grant recognition of Red China -- admission of Red China to the U.N." Another item continually in the news is #9: "Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress." Item #11 has received great discussion on the Internet, even before the text was again discovered: "Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one- world government with its own independent armed forces." Due to the Clinton administration, #14 catches the eye of most people: "Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office." Not only did Russia have access to our patent office back then, the Clinton administration recently gave a computerized copy of all American patents to communist China. Item #15 suggests that the communists "capture one or both of the political parties in the United States." They didn't get both parties. But, as we look at the ever expanding federal bureaucracy, we see that the communist model has captured nearly one and a half of the two major political parties. The 16th says to "use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights." We see that in many court actions, from civil rights to school desegregation. Item #17 is where it's at, though. This item was accomplished so well that today's students are completely confused about what the Founding Fathers intended as our rights of life, liberty and property: "Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks." And so they did. By the time a careful reader gets down to #20 and #21 they may realize that a very workable plan was described: #20 states: "Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions." #21 rounds it off with: "Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures." There's more, of course. There are forty-five articles in the plan. Most have been implemented, and that is exactly why there have been so many ominous changes in society these past thirty years. That is also why so many of our freedoms have evaporated. Therein, he made a couple interesting points that need a bit of "revising and extending," as those on Capitol Hill are so fond of saying. Jennings told the group that, despite a perception of falling standards in journalism, the American news audience has access to more, and better, information than at any other time in history. "I think the evening news can do a very good job," Jennings said. It gets even funnier, though: "I write or rewrite everything that goes on the evening news," Jennings said. Which means, of course, we can safely blame him directly for the liberal slant on the news. Because, then he stretched the truth just a little: "I have no trouble keeping my opinions dormant while I am on the air." Well, it just so happens that the Media Research Center http://www.mediaresearch.org keeps track of some of the more outrageous far-left "news" quoted by the broadcast and print media, so we ripped off a couple quotes. Here's one from Jennings introducing a piece about the Littleton shooting and web sites: "Finally, this evening, opportunism. There's nothing new about some people trying to take advantage of other people's tragedy. The Internet simply adds a new dimension to it." Yeah. We talk about it without the filter of the far-left. But those not getting their news from the Internet, and not "discussing" the nightly news on forums like Free Republic, get a constant dose of liberal distortion from most national news reports. For instance: Katie Couric opened the Today show saying: "Good morning. The Gipper was an airhead! That's one of the conclusions of a new biography of Ronald Reagan that's drawing a tremendous amount of interest and fire today." Time Executive Editor John F. Stacks wrote in the October 4 issue: "Reagan, who invented statistics, replayed movie plots as if they were history and answered questions with such bewildering non sequiturs that interrogators were stunned into silence...." USA Today columnist Walter Shapiro writes: "Repealing the Second Amendment is no cause for the faint- hearted, but it remains the only way for liberals to trigger an honest debate on the future of our bullet-plagued society. So what if anti-gun advocates have to devote the next 15 or 20 years to the struggle? The cause is worth the political pain. Failing to take bold action condemns all of us to spend our lives cringing in terror every time we hear a car backfire." On CNN's Capital Gang, Time's professional far-left Clinton apologist, Margaret Carlson, said of George W. Bush's reaction to the Fort Worth shooting: "He was looking for profundity and he found a kind of pseudo- religious foolishness in that 'wave of evil.' It's evil with a gun. That's what it is, and gun laws work, and you have to support gun laws if you want to stop this." Time's "Winners and Losers" feature, bashed our Second Amendment right, too: "Texas massacre spotlights Guv's slavish devotion to the NRA. Where's the 'compassion,' Big Guy?" Good Morning America's Diane Sawyer felt free to take a gratuitous swipe at Republicans while interviewing Senator John McCain: "Well, however brave a stand campaign finance reform may be, members of your own party have rejected it. What's the matter with them? Why don't they get it?" The Clinton News Network's anchor Judy Woodruff dumped on Linda Tripp on Inside Politics last week when reporting Tripp's lawsuit over the Pentagon's illegal leak of her personnel file: "A new broadside today against the Clintons from Linda Tripp." Then there was Charles Gibson leading the anti-gun crowd while questioning Gore on Good Morning America, the morning after the church shooting in Fort Worth: Gibson: "I don't want to politicize this, and this is not the time for political questions, but ... do you think the 2000 campaign will largely be about guns?" Gore: "You said you didn't want to politicize it. I can assure it's the last thing that I want to do, and I just don't want to get into a discussion like that." Gibson: "I'm just saying do you think that this is going to be a discussion in the year 2000, this country will sit down and have a frank discussion about guns?" Maybe we should have that little discussion, actually. Perhaps we should start by exchanging all laws regulating personal firearms with those regulating freedom of the press. After all, both are Constitutionally guaranteed rights of equal importance. And, gun owners seem to respect their right to keep and bear arms much more honorably than most of these so called journalists respect their duty to be truthful, fair and correct. Meanwhile, there is a group of folks over at Free Republic getting ready to take some serious action about all this far-left trash masquerading as "news." Below are two of the addresses. http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a37c48f347b31.htm http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a37ccc2334a1b.htm THE STORM OF OPPRESSION Like a cold hard rain on a dark fall night, the pompous demands of federal officials continue to dampen the American spirit of liberty. The rushing water of political expediency is eroding away the rule of law that once was our nation's foundation. The moisture of excessive laws, rules and regulations has rusted the iron of the people's will to demand the return of what once was called their unalienable rights. The America intended by the Founding Fathers has been nearly destroyed by the expediency of government necessary to maintain complete control over the American people. Unconstitutional laws favoring small groups within the country are enforced with a political wink and a nod in return for the almighty special interest campaign dollars necessary for the politicians and bureaucrats to maintain their lofty political positions of power. Sacrificed by this never ending tide of new laws, rules and regulations are the people's rights to life, liberty and property. Public officials now take private property, and even human lives, with impunity, almost at will. Even when they admit it was an error, there is little or no recourse available to the family nor punishment to the officials involved. Liberty and privacy have become but an ideal of a bygone era, because in today's society Americans are accustomed to submitting to search of person, documents and home. Nothing may be kept from a government agent any longer, whether that agent be the tax man or a cop on the street. And today's Americans so expect their property to be completely regulated by government, some now actually thank a bureaucrat for permission to use that which they have purchased with their own hard earned cash. Yes, over the years Americans have learned to accept their plight of being under the complete control of government. It benefits society, which benefits us all, we are told. It is for our own good, public officials say. So we accept these dark forces of restraint impacting on our liberty. Whether it comes from the far-left or the far- right, the scheme is the most prevalent of those ever- pompous ideals of politicians: control. Collectivism through forced political control. Complete control through forced collectivism. Political control, however, always applies to the actions of the people rather than to government officials. Because government officials make the law, there are very, very few laws regulating the professional actions of politicians and bureaucrats. And, generally speaking, government officials have immunity from prosecution for nearly any action performed, no matter how unconstitutional it may be. An American citizen may be sentenced to death by firing squad for treason. Yet, some public officials may give any or all of our country's top military secrets to the enemy with no worry of legal ramifications. Even worse: Where once we had Congressional committees investigating un-American activities, today we have Congressional committees legislating un-American activities. Once, if a citizen disclosed that a foreign country was attempting to corrupt our political system by illegally contributing money to political campaigns and spending money to affect our elections, that person would be recognized as a hero for exposing the treachery. But today, as we saw recently, the President of the United States, the Attorney General and nearly two thirds of Congress would brand that citizen a traitor and do all in their power to harass and discredit him or her. And most of the Washington media corps, being under the control of the dark political forces that be, would gladly pile-on and quickly make a national laughing stock of the citizen. Those bellicose proclamations of the controlling elite are also stealing the rights of our children. Where once our children were taught that we lived in the land of the free and the home of the brave, they now indoctrinate our children to shut up, sit down and never, ever speak their minds about right and wrong again. What type of public official does all this to the American people? The answer is easy: Politicians and bureaucrats engorged with the sensual juices of power. Those who make a career of the pomp and circumstance of office. Those who love control over the American people. The same type of politician who would give communist enemies with nuclear missiles pointed at our cities "Most Favorite Nation" trade status with us. In other words, it is those very politicians who are paid money by private and foreign interests to provide favors who are the problem. Campaign funds, the money is called. Or out and out graft, for those federal officials not elected to office. Sure, some public officials say that "special interests" are actually "our" collective interests. And such is the shame of it all. Tight political controls are the antithesis of liberty. The storm of capricious laws, rules and regulations restricting the liberty of the people are never truly a "collective" interest. By design, by intent and by action, these laws benefit only small factions of society and are employed to exercise individual control over all others. What if GWB has indeed learned from the past 3 presidential campaigns, determined that the media are no longer mere reporters of the facts, but active participants with a desired liberal outcome, and is actively speaking so as to defang the media so they are unable to spend the next 13 months demonizing him like they did to Newt ? What if he knows that he has the Know-nothing arousal-gappers in the middle already supporting him and is starting his campaign from there ? The media is completely unable to trash him if pops off and says something straight out of the Gephardt - Bonior playbook like his EITC comment. Democrats, on the other hand, are going nuts calling him a liar. Perhaps GWB has decided to start out running the middle, keep his rhetoric reasonable, toned down and non- threatening, and slowly move right over the next 13 months of the campaign. Our Side points to Reagan as the example. We forget that he was not only demonized by the left, but by those on the right that did not believe he was sufficiently conservative on a number of issues in 1980. All this goes on while algore and Bradley slug it out, try to out-liberal one another, as they try to tie up the liberal base of the democrat party. 3. UPS and Guns. UPS has decided to halt all ground shipments of handguns. All future shipments will be via Next Day Air, potentially tripling the shipping costs. The excuse given for this Politically Correct action is liability concerns. This action is a twofer - not only does it open the door for an entrepreneur to take that segment of business away, but it exposes UPS to 100 million gun owners as a spineless toady of the left. CNN Headline News, Thurs. 4. Hawaiian Voting. The SCOTUS heard a voting rights complaint from a rancher in Hawaii last week. The case involved another example of liberals dividing Americans by race, giving one group special rights, removing rights from everyone else, and setting them at one another's throats. The case involved a Commission set up to dole out money raised via stewardship of native Hawaiian lands over the last 100 years. The Commission was set up by the state under the auspices of congress, with the membership popularly elected. In recent years, native separatists in Hawaii have started using this commission and the money doled out by it to conduct a campaign of racial separatism. The state decided recently that only natives could vote for its members. A non-native objected to his loss of voting rights and sued. The Clinton administration filed a amicus brief in support of the state's position. When the case was argued before the SCOTUS, Justices were not impressed with racial limits on voting. Properly decided, this case may start cutting the Gordian knot of special rights and special treatments for natives tied in recent years. Anchorage Daily news, Weds. 5. Campaign Contributions. The SCOTUS decided to hear a Missouri case involving strict limits on contributions to political campaigns. In recent years, the Court has found that political contributions are the same as political speech, and have removed limits on them. This case has the potential to overturn campaign finance laws at both the state and federal levels. Limbaugh, Weds. 6. Jesse Bashing. Liberals crawled all over themselves a week ago bashing Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura for his comments in a Playboy interview. Like all Good Liberals, they were far more concerned with all the politically incorrect things he said in the interview than what their president has actually done over the last 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 years. Ventura's real mistake was bashing religion, which promptly cost him 25% in popularity in MN. An e-mail to Limbaugh Weds noted that the democrats were having a great time piling on to Ventura and wondered if their strategy was to thoroughly trash his reputation so that he would no longer be a viable candidate for the Reform nomination, making it easier for Buchannan to get the nomination, split the conservative vote and elect algore next year. 7. Tax Breaks. The SCOTUS also fired a shot across the bow of educrats everywhere by refusing to hear an Arizona case on tax breaks for contributions to private schools. The ACLU separation of Church and State crowd decided that Arizona's law making contributions to private and parochial schools tax deductible was an unconstitutional violation of that separation. The Court disagreed. Limbaugh, Tues. 8. Cell Phones. The FAA announced the result of a 5 year investigation into the effects of cell phones and laptop computers on aircraft navigation systems. They were unable to measure any deviation in navigation equipment caused by cell phone transmissions or electromagnetic interference caused by firing up the laptop computers onboard. Airlines immediately denounced the results of the investigation. Critics of the airlines noted that they make $125 million per year via their exclusive agreement with AT&T and installed Airfones aboard commercial jets. CNN Headline News, Tues.
