Mike, I've seen the books in all sorts of categories, but they seem to fall under young adult more than anything. I like the books quite a bit, mainly because we see the characters actually being teenagers, which has been missing from the show lately. On one of the message boards, someone mentioned how nice it would be to see interaction between, say, Max and Maria, and how they are friends, or Alex and Michael hanging out together. The books give you those situations and they are fun to read. Michael is less of a loner and more willing to acknowledge how important his human friends are to him. It becomes the six of them against anything, and it takes ALL SIX. The mythology is very different though. No 'save the homeworld' mandate or anything. I've read that the books are being discontinued after #10, so there goes my plan for entertaining myself over the summer. The show has always been an added bonus to the books that I fell in love with. They are classified under Young Adult, but I'm a college student and would be reading them even if I were older. I got several people hooked on them my senior year of high school as well as my sister who hates everything that I like...she's 14. They are very different from the show due to the fact that the show was only based off of an early draft of book #1. The original Pilot script was very much like book #1 with some differences and a different ending. But, I would recommend reading them, at least give #1 a try. Thanks, everyone, for the info -- and the interesting tidbits. If the show was based on a draft of the original book, then someone at the book agency must have been in cahoots with someone in Hollywood, and thought the book(s) would make a good TV show (or something.) I also imagine that the show, perhaps like the novel, never intended to go into the whole 'save the world' scenario either. It just seems a little cheesy to me. I hope we still see more of the parents next year, and follow through on the Valenti/Amy relationship as well as give us closure on the Max/Liz being out all night ordeal. With the summer Olympics being NBC's baby and a guaranteed audience, the other networks complained that NBC had an unfair ratings advantage if the season started at its normal time. I think the end result was that everybody (except NBC of course) agreed to start the season after the final Olympics broadcast. So our dry spell is going to last much longer than normal. Damn those athletes! :) Chantel __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages & get email alerts with Yahoo!
