Hello out there in cyberland, I have not been on the list for several months and miss you all. I just found out about half an hour ago that I AM going to Dallas tomorrow for the convention. As I scramble around packing, because I do have to work at 0700 in the am, I need one thing. DOes anyone have a/the list of recommended things to take to a convention? I haven't been for a while and need a refresher. I will check my mail in the am before I go to work, but don't have time to sort through list mail. If you could send any such list directly to me, I would greatly appreciate it. BTW, I will wear my cyberstampers tee, so any listees, stop me and say hi! Evo & daughter, I'm answering to the list because others may be interested. NO abnormal cells do not always mean cancer. A mild vaginitis can produce abnormal cells on a pap smear. A rolltaq adhesive system. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I now have all three swaps done and ready to send off to Suki. I could never have done it withour your generosity. Also in hte package was a really nice little rosebud ring stamps, some homemade paper, lots of little M&Ms and gum (Sorry, but I cannot chew gum) and some jelly beans. I had help opening the package and those candies didn't last long at all. :-) Oh yes, there were some of those rocca candies that I absolutely LOVE and I was down to one peice which I was saving for a special occasion. Not only do you get the joy of stamping, you get the extra thrill of making and using your own stamp! Mostly I use them along with manufactured stamps. It's fun to have another tool with a different look. Some techniques we learned: Use tracing paper to draw or trace the picture you want to carve. Then turn it over onto the carving material and rub it with your thumbnail. The pencil marks will easily transfer to the eraser or whatever. To carve a tiny circle: Put your carving material on a small piece of paper so that it turns easily. Then push the pointy tip of the X-acto knife into the material, toward the center of the circle. Then rotate the material 160 degrees. When you lift up your knife, the little circle of material will come right out. The flatter you hold your knife, the wider your circle. To cut or draw a smooth line, take a breath before you start. Then smoothly exhale as you cut or draw the line. It really helps! We were taught to insert our knife into the eraser and then hold it still and move the eraser. If the carving material is on a piece of paper, it will easily move. I'm not sure why this was recommended, rather than holding the eraser and moving the knife. Seems to work, though. Use fingernail polish remover to remove the printing on the Staedtler Mars erasers. Otherwise you'll be able to see the lettering in your stamped image. (The lettering doesn't usually come completely off - kind of smears, but that's good enough.) Now a question - I've never used the Nasco carving material. How does it compare to the the EZ Cut carving material from Dick Blick? The EZ Cut doesn't crumble like one of the other products mentioned, but I wonder if anyone has a preference between the Nasco and Dick Blick products? roggart roggart@yelmtel.com ------------------------------ From: Hidden Creations Date: Thu, 30 Jan 1997 21:26:30 -0800 Subject: To Everyone - I'm venting Hi everybody! Inside was so much I know I will not list it all but don't think it will go unloved or unappreciated or unused. In fact, I have packed and unpacked it 3 times. RubberDolly, six, said, " Wow, this is a *nice* lady!" And then she was teary a time or two looking at all the pretty feminine embellishments. Contained were 4 heart stamps, a Valentines um, and a feather stamp from PsX. I love feathers and this is my 1st feather stamp!! And I love hearts and valentines. Of which SSS made the most beautiful embellished, dimensional, involved, individual victorian valentines I have ever gotten. And some handstamped Valentine stationery and envies:) WOW. I finally got my two pounds of Toad Hall/Rubber Anarchy grabbag. Over 100 new stamps including some really great postoids, a really cool ancient map of China, some Egyptian images, and lots of other neat stuff. More important though, was that my SSS package has arrived. All the way from the UK! Boy, I feel guilty--it cost so much just to mail it! (over =A313) Anyway, under all the packing peanuts I found a beautiful card with a note that said, among other things "As you can see by this card, I'm new to stamping . . ." Boy, if you are trying to claim that your newbieness is to "blame" for *that* card, then I'd just better give up stamping right here and now. Was it done with those compressed sponges everyone is talking about? I really liked it. Under the card I found a corner punch (the one with the five small hearts). Yay! Now I have two, but there are still a few that look like they might be useful to have. There was also a package of really interesting-looking paper, called Kids Neapolitan Paper. Each sheet is different, but all are variations of pink, blue, and yellow sort of marbelized-looking paper. There were also two packets of opalescent origami paper. Very pretty, and it will be good for layering or accenting cards, as well as for origami. There was also a pack of cards each with a cut-out six-pointed star. I don't think the manufacturer had Jewish holidays in mind, but that may well be what I use them for! Then there was the Cup of Kindness Mary Engelbreit set of nine stamps. It's really a great set--there's no way you could have known I had it. I may use it to turn someone else on to Mary Engelbreit, or maybe trade for some stamps I don't have. I hope that's not considered improper. Finally, at the bottom, among all the metallic confetti (the messy kind--arghh--it's all over my carpet!), I fished around to find two packages of kneadable putty rubber. Well, I'm at a loss. I've seen kneadable erasers, but the directions on the boxes don't seem to indicate these are erasers. Can someone tell me what I do with these? (After I extract from them the stray confetti which got into the box and is now stuck to them!) I don't think I missed anything; at least I hope not. Thanks so much. Looking forward to next month. Not to be too bold, but I'll just mention that I did file a "wish list" recently, though I will probably update it again, since I just put in an order with the Rubber Chicken Lady for six or seven catalogues that I think I might have listed as wants.
