I was at New York Fabrics looking for some Valentine's Day fabric (let me tell you, they were picked over pretty darned well!), but I digress. In the sale area, I found two bins of packages containing some great collage bits. These bags were about $2.00 and contained pieces of ribbon, fabric embellishments/appliques, lace, buttons, etc. It seemed like a pretty good deal, if you're into collage bags. Since I have so much of that stuff laying around the house already, I didn't think I needed more. But if you're just starting on collage techniques or you are looking for a great addition to your SS's package, check this out! I also stopped by Fabricland (the one at Kirkwood Plaza). They had even less V-Day fabric! :( Anyway, I found this great white ceramic bowl with a cherub sitting on the rim. I couldn't find a price on it so I took it up to the register. They said it was part of a promotion (I guess they couldn't get rid of these!) and it was $8.99 for a huge bag of potpourri and the cherub dish was free! Well, I have enough potpourri to last for years, but I couldn't resist that dish. In fact, I put it to good use for today's demo! I brought the dish and filled it with chocolate candies that everyone could help themselves to during the demo. Boy, scored lots of brownie points with that one! :) Happy shopping, Kathy ------------------------------ From: SHARP Date: Sun, 02 Feb 1997 04:07:27 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Friendship thought of the day 2/2/97 Real friends are those who, when you've made a fool of yourself, don't feel as though you've done a permanent job. We do this, Frank and I. People write and we act as liaison for this kind of information. But, being oh so overworked (said with a grin, okay?) any message liaisoning that doesn't go through us is a good message. And any message that DOES go through us is a good message. The only bad message is the one you don't send if you're running late. Catch my drift?? There was something else I was going to say about the SS swap, but I can't remember it. I will be sending out match letters in a bit, promise. Or else tomorrow morning. Naw, I'll stay up and do them so they'll be done. But there was something else as well. I can't remember it now. ========================================================================= Janet Detter Margul | Real women don't have hot flashes... Some of the cards have Gold Foil printed designs ie Happy Birthday or Gold Foil Printed borderlines and some are just blank. These are nicely presented in clear bags with a Headercard so would make wonderful gifts. The cost of these is $6 inc postage. I would prefer US $$ for these but check will be fine. No credit cards. (lead) Since I come from the printing industry I was collecting antique cuts etc. Never to pass up on a deal I bought a lot and then the old guy refused to ship them for me. Being Sunday and having a flight at night, we wrapped the stuff and I shipped a suitcase I bought new that day with 70 lbs. of lead. I carried on a 40 lb. bag. Boy did that stop the x ray machine. They decided no one carries that much lead and unwrapped each package (about 70 of them) I re-wrapped, they unwrapped., whatta comedy. And geez do those hallways get long in the airports. Don't try this yourself, leave it to the professionals (and slightly crazy collectors) Now we know the true reason why when I left California I shipped 21,980 lbs. of stuff. (some of it was lead) My shipment took 3/4ths of the entire tractor trailor. They squeezed on some ones one bedroom apartment and had to add on those big boxes on the back to make it all fit. Imagine my surprise when I got home from work and there was a package for me - - not even my birthday or Christmas or anything! After the dreadful week I had I work, this was a great way to get things perked up for the weekend! (And I didn't even think I was already signed up on the SSS!) Hubby was like a kid too - pulling goodies out as fast as I was! And what did I find?? A cool love bunny stamp - great for Valentines (never have enuff for grandkids!) Red EP - how appropo for Valentines! White doilies - Can I ever use these against red cards for Valentines! Metallic heart stickers - way cool! Victorian roses heart ornament - this would even be great on my Christmas tree next year! Blue heart-shaped confetti - watch out everyone (especially my fav dau!) Mulberry paper in red, burgundy and pink - How did you know I was totally out of these colors and I needed them desperately?????? Then - wrapped in pink lace (another great usuable) was a Valentine mug (like a tree trunk with hearts carved into it) and individual packets of flavored hot chocolate, hot tea and spiced cider - Love them all, but especially the cider! And notice, I did say these were "individual" - - no sharing with hubby - heh, heh, heh! To top it all off - she enclosed a sweet little card and to answer the question - when I'm not stamping or working, it's usually cross stitch or knitting (working on an afghan for grandchild #6 now). And to answer the next question - no, I'm not THAT old - we just start very young in the South! And, age is only a state of mind! Thanks, SSS, for the great Valentine's goody box!
