I knew by contacting the list, I would get alot of great ideas on this. To clarify a couple of questions I have been getting, one of the reasons I am not wanting to be in the really hot areas is because our 5 yr. old gets his worst attacks in the hot weather. He was in a car with me in the summer going to church once and we didn't have air conditioning. All the windows were open and it was only a 10 minute drive. Anyways, he had an attack so bad he was turning blue. Just from the heat. We have the Santa Anna winds here and every time the dust blows up from them, my other son has problems with his asthma. The other question was about whether or not we wanted to stay in Calif. Not really. The cost of living is just too high here. So we would like to move out of state. I grew up in Ohio and wee have thought about moving somewhere in the mid-west. Just not sure where. Then I modge podge it onto an empty, descented cigar box. The mulberry paper has a smoother texture, but the cotton has a deep rich color with a rougher texture. Depends on your project which you'll like better. I also modge podge stamped and colored images on wood, just like decoupage. It is also a great glue, just brush on a thin layer, but be careful with thin papers. It seems to work the best on cardstock and foam core. Great stuff, modge podge. Rosemary - ---------- > From: E. Point your web browser at http://crafts.dm.net/ . - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 03 Feb 1998 09:00:37 -0600 From: Shannon Green Subject: RS: Shannon's SSS6 for January I had this all typed up last night and I hit delete instead of spell check and lost the whole thing. I'll try again and hope I don't get anything mixed up. My SS arranged to have my January package and a birthday package waiting for me at Evo's booth at the convention. Sure enough, when I got there Friday to help Evo she handed them over and she had taken then out of the outer box so I have no idea where they came from. Evo, Mr. Evo, Natalie, Two Steppin Stamper and Lupie got to see the actual ceremonial opening of the packages and they will attest to how awesome these are. The January package was wrapped in shiny gold paper, which I saved, and was all pink, red, purple and white on the inside. There was some pink and white tissue paper that I can use for Valentine's Day lying on top of everything. Then underneath there were so many little things to explore I didn't know where to start! There was an envelope full of die cut shadow box cards (with instructions, thank goodness!) that will be fun to play with since I've never used them before. Then a satin heart shaped box with a sequined lid full of Hershey's kisses and "I Love You" fetti. She loves me :) I just might giggle :) Then a pretty cellophane bag with 2 bottles of dimensional glitter paint in red and gold and 4 little baggies of embossing powder in baby blue glitter, purple/silver hologram, light blue/dark blue mix, and light pink. All perfect for Valentine's Day. There was a little clear box full of multi colored cupid fetti, a sheet of really neat stickers and a package of gold Valentine's Day seals. My SS also included a baggie full of dies from Giggles' fund raiser and she said she didn't even look at them so she wouldn't be tempted. My SS is a much better person than I am! In another cellophane bag she sent a whole bunch of goodies for Taylor! I haven't given them to her yet, I thought I'd give them to her on Valentine's Day and say "look what Mommy got for you" but decided I'd probably feel guilty about that...for 10 minutes or so. Anyway, I wanted to get the thank you written up before I put everything away. This bag has a package of heart shaped sidewalk chalk, a ruler with hologram hearts on it, a way cool pencil, a water pendant necklace shaped like a cute teddy bear, an empty M & Ms package (I had the munchies), a purple heart clip, a heart eraser, and two stamps, one is a heart and one is lips. She's going to absolutely love all these things! Next there were a couple of mounted stamps wrapped in pretty tissue paper. These are my new favorite people stamps. They're a goofy man and woman from Art Impressions and I think I'll name them Jayson and Shannon. Yeah, perfect! Then my creative and talented SS crocheted the cutest swimsuit top for me! Well, everyone said they were little doilies (except Evo who said they're pasties) but I figure I can do what I want with them :) Send the bottoms next month. And finally 4 sheets of beautiful exotic paper (I'm a paper tramp) that I recognize as coming from Paper Routes. Now, other places may have these same papers but only Paper Routes wraps your purchases in a distinctive heat transfer paper which my SS included in the package. Hmmmmm...... As if all that wasn't enough, my SS sent a birthday package along, too. I thought it might have a card or candy or something but it was a whole nuther goodie package! Inside a gorgeous silver bag there was a package of lavender mulberry paper, perfect for Spring. Then a whole stack of pre cut cards and envelopes that are just dying to be stamped on. Now these stickers suit me quite well...they say "The Queen has Written" and they're cut like postage stamps! I love these! My SS also sent 2 jars of Pearl Ex which I've been lusting over for the longest time. One is bronze and the other one is, difficult to tell but I think it's interference green. These will definitely be the first things I play with. Then a mounted stamp from Stampington & Co. that's a gazebo. This would look great done on one of those shadow box cards. And 2 UMs, one is a *big* sun and the other is a *big* vampire. Now this is just a little strange because I don't recall mentioning anything about liking vampires to my SS yet somehow she knew. Hmmmmm..... Oh and here's a little jar of bright blue body glitter that my SS says is a gag gift but little does she know what I might do with that! I tried it out last night, by the way, and it made me wanna disco. And finally, more candies in the bottom of the bag and these are still in tact...temporarily. I sure hope I didn't miss anything, there was so much stuff in these packages I was completely overwhelmed. Thank you, thank you, thank you SS for putting so much time and effort into these packages. I really do love them and can't wait to dig in and get busy stampin! I really don't ever get depressed but this one day a year usually does me in! I want to thank Susan CoffeeStamper, Victoria Flaherty, Brenda Volpe, and my sweet SS for the virtual balloons, cards and flowers. While I was out of town, the hubby helped my daughter stamp a card for me. She knows she can use any of my stamps she wants to and she chose a row of buildings, some trees, a tiger, an alien lady, a moonscape, an elephant, a crowd of people, a unicorn, some sand, and an alien creature for my card. These were done with Marvys in case you're interested in her technique ;) I also received a beautiful card from Leilani Schooling with a heart on the front that has a cut out area with netting and pot pourri in it. Very elegant. She also sent a really neat laminated bookmark. (I will be happy to pass the FB along). Sue Lingafelter did a soot card (I think) with a big Magenta looking scene on the front, unbelieveably gorgeous as usual. Inside the message says: On this day, I hope your hair turns out exactly the way you want it to. I hope a total stranger asks you for your autograph and then apologizes for mistaking you for a gorgeous movie star. I hope someone at work says "You look fabulous..." I hope a letter arrives from one of those mail order contests that says "You've Won!" And I hope for every other wonderful thing for you to make this your Happiest of Happy Birthdays. Then a famous card from Susan CoffeeStamper that has a wallpaper background and a tea cup, or probably coffee cup, stamped and mounted on top. A real card and a virtual card...could you be any more thoughtful??? I don't think so. Then I got the neatest thing from Judy Dragonhome Perry. It was a small brown paper bag with designs printed on one side with an area for the addresses so you can mail it. I know, that didn't make any sense at all, you just have to see it it's so clever! Inside the bag she sent a really funny UM from LYTB and a magnet that says "You are a member in good standing of the Rubber Stamp Addicts Club." That one will have a prominent spot on the fridge, that's for sure! I just love this and the bag is too cool, Judy, thank you. At the convention, Melissa David hands me this stunning card done in greens and coppers with a sun stamped on the front, it looks like in Ultra Thick Enamel. There are 8 layers of cardstocks and papers on this card, all perfectly measured and evenly spaced and I'll never know how she does this. Do you have some kind of special paper cutter? Don't tell me you just measure and exacto because mine never turn out like this. And how did you do the copper paper that looks kind of swirly? Did it come that way or did you do it? I have to know. Inside the message says: Happy Birthday, Shannon! You're at that age when you begin to ask yourself the Big Questions. Where are we, as a society, going? What is life really about?!! Why did Mrs. Howell pack so many clothes for a 3-hour tour? I love this! An amazingly beautiful card with a goofy message on the inside! I'm humbled as usual, thank you Melissa. Then at the convention Stacia InkBlodgett bought me a Paula Best stamp of a dalmation (I have a real one) with wings and I just love it! I can already picture so many things to do with him, I just need to get busy doing them. And our friend Mary bought me a package of hand marbled collage papers from Skycraft Designs. Food for my paper fetish is a necessity. Thank you all again for making my day such a happy one.
