Beautiful Butterfly Window Decal (Pictures will be on the web site in a few days) These are so neat. I've been spending too much time down here in my basement and have mushrooms growing in my hair, but I have a cool new thing for you to try! These vinyl projects are great for gifts and wonderful for yourself. What You'll Need: Happy Vinyl from Happy Rubber Stamps (embossable vinyl) Happy Rubber Stamp T102 Beautiful Butterfly Greeting of your choice (I used Thanks!, as it's a gift for a friend) Glass paints (I use Gallery Glass) Small paint brush or two Water glass with a bit of water 7 by 5.5 blue folded card 6x5 piece of acetate Double sided tape White text weight paper 10 X 6 inches folded in half to fit inside card Decorative scissors Black pigment ink or Fabrico black Black embossing powder Baby powder Fluffy paint brush or cotton balls Regular scissors Colored pencils or markers Step By Step: 1. Use a piece of Happy Vinyl just larger than the butterfly (3.4 by 4.5 inches). Sprinkle baby powder on the vinyl and use the brush or cotton balls to make a thin coating of powder on the vinyl. Stamp with the black Fabrico and black emboss. The baby powder is to keep the static from holding all the embossing powder on the vinyl. 2. After heating, take a towel (or your jeans) and remove the baby powder. 3. Use the glass paints to color the image.* Allow to dry. 4. While the paint is drying, take the blue folded card and measure a square opening on the front 4.5 by 4.5 inches. The opening should be a half inch from the bottom and both sides. Cut out the opening with decorative scissors.** 5. Use the double sided tape to adhere the acetate in the window. 6. The text weight white paper should be taped inside the card so the window has a white background. White is the only really good color to use for this. 7. Stamp your greeting above the window on a scrap of white cardstock sponged around the edges with a cool color matching the colors on the butterfly. 8. By now the paint is dry. Cut out the butterfly image leaving a 1/16th inch "margin" around the outline of the image. 9. Place the butterfly on the acetate window. It should stick very easily. This is a great gift, because the butterfly easily comes off and can be put on any "glass" surface. Mine will go on the window of the 71 VW Stampmoblie I drive. Additional info: * Painting the vinyl can be tricky. After doing this several times, this is what I've found to be the best way. First, don't use the paint brush to "paint" the vinyl. It's very smooth and doesn't make it easy to get good coverage. Use the brush to scoop and place the paint where you want it. Use a tapping motion, not a dragging motion. You also need to try to get an even coating of paint. The darker colors will look uneven if your paint is uneven. Yellow doesn't seem to have a problem, tho'. You may need to get a few coats of paint, also. The lighter colors can dry almost clear with only one coating of paint. ** To cut the opening of the window with decorative scissors, mark your opening with a stylus or pencil. Cut a large "X" in the middle of the square with a craft knife, then cut a diamond. Most of the middle will fall away and you'll be able to finish the edges with the decorative scissors. These things are so cool! They will stick on your windows, your drinking glasses, your eyeglasses (if the image is small enough), you favorite coffe mug, etc. They are great for holiday images for decorating your windows, too! I'm getting started on Halloween stuff in my spare time (yeah, right). If you're interested in getting some Happy Vinyl (embossable, too!), it's only $6.00 for 8 sheets of 8 1/2 by 5 1/2. Perfect size for all your window decals. Email me with project questions! There is apparently someone in my neighborhood that is mutilating and killing cats. My black kitty, Satan (don't blame me my son named him) went missing on Friday. I didn't worry too much at first because he sometimes stayed out for a long time. Then today, my other tom, Dusty came home with one eye all bloody! I'm afraid Satan's dead, and I don't know how Dusty got away from his tormentors. I assumed, as soon as I saw Dusty, that Satan was dead, and a human had done it! I didn't think for one minute that it was a coincidence that two of my kitties had been hurt. I rushed him to the vet and she said no animal did that to him. She said he had been beaten and kicked. He had several bruises on his head and sides, major lacerations on both his top and bottom eyelids and blood inside his eye. She saved his eye, and stitched up the eyelid. Damn! What makes people do things like that? What scares me is that even though Satan was a roamer, Dusty generally stayed in the yard. I will never have another outside cat! If they're not in danger from traffic, they're in danger from perverts! Dusty will just have to get used to staying inside. This has not been a good quarter for my pets. Pauly, my little poodle, apparently dropped dead in a neighbor's yard just before Christmas. Now, I wonder about that! Then Pinky, my oldest cat, just died of old age. He wasn't sick or suffering, he just died. He'd never been outside. Then Satan disappears, and now Dusty has been injured. It's enough to make you stop having pets. I'm upset, but my 14 year old daughter is traumatized! I'm calling the police tomorrow, not that I expect them to do anything, but just so they'll know there's someone like that in the neighborhood. I may even put up flyers warning other cat owners in the area. Well, thanks for listening, I just wanted to vent. I'm angry and sad about the whole thing. Pat Glenn This message was from "Patricia D.
