Stacy- The easiest pin you can make is to stamp an image that you are particularly fond of and that is the appropriate size (which is entirely up to your taste) over and over again on card stock. Color it to suit you...then cut these multiple images out. Laminate them (you can use a heat laminator or get the contact type laminating (cool laminating ) sheets. Attach the pin backs and there you have it. You can get the pin backs that have the double stick adhesive so that all you need to do is remove the protective paper strip and put it on the back of your "PIN" A couple of thing to remember are 1. Sign your pin on the back...your list name...so that later you can be identified 2. IF you are going to use a heat laminator...DON'T EMBOSS- it will melt when run through the laminator (I've done that-messy) 3. MAKE A LOT OF THEM ! Of course you can get very creative from there....you can stamp on Sculpty or Femo. You can coat your stamped and cut out image with Envirotex, you can use shrink plastic, you can hang things from the main stamped image like charms- using in expensive jump rings that you can purchase at local craft store-close to the display that will have the pin backs. You can get very very elaborate and use Effie Geitzfinger's Stamping under glass technique and attach pin backs. There are no "RULES" for the pins...as you will see...stampers get very creative. One of the cutest pins I ever received was at St. Louis Convention 2 years ago and the stamper had made a very tiny shopping bag, stamped the St.Louis Arches within a heart and 2 tiny tinny rubber stamps on the front...she attached a pin back...filled the bag with a little Easter grass and a rolled up piece of paper with her name and stamp credits on it....and there was a ribbon tying the "scroll" shut. I still have that stamp, along with all of the others that I have collected. - -----Original Message----- From: Landry To: rubberstampers@crafts.dm.net Date: Thursday, February 05, 1998 11:46 PM Subject: RS: How do you make pins? >Does anyone have instructions for how to make pins? You say in Canada there is no death penalty ... and I do not believe you are 100% accurate in that statement. I believe that the dealth penalty can still be invoked in the case of the murder of a law enforcement officer. There are still some who believe that the death penalty should never have been abolished, and who would vote to have it reinstated. Where a state or country, has legislation that sanctions the death penalty, the carrying out of the sentence of execution is not murder. Murder is a crime - and while the argument might be made that carrying out a death sentence is not "moral" ... that does not make it a "crime." Before a person can say they are for/against the dealth penalty, maybe they should be able to be present at the crime scene where a young mother has been blugeoned, and left to drown in her own blood. Maybe they should be the one to remove the restraints from a young boy who was hog tied before he was stabbed to death. Maybe they should be the ones to count the 19 broken ribs in an infant that had the very life shaken from it. Maybe they should spend a day with the mothers of Kristen French or Leslie Mahaffey, both victims of that pervert, who I would not even dignify by printing his name here. But, as a Canadian, you know .... and you know the horrific acts he perpetrated and that he intended to savor his demented pleasure forever, by recording his acts of sadistic torture on video ... and you know that he has never once expressed remorse. What we can't even begin to imagine is the loss, sorrow and suffering of the families of his victims. Another murder on the west coast of Canada, a few years back ... the bodies of his innocent young victims strewn about ... and the government **paid** him to tell him where the bodies were?? Dozens of lives snuffed out to bring him devilish pleasure. Can you just imagine the rush he got when he received $90,000 just for telling law enforcement where he hid their bodies? Just think of the shock, sorrow and outrage of the families of the victims .... that their tax dollars were spent to find out where the bodies of their children were ... and that their tax dollars continue to support this monster. Right here in the Maritimes a few years back, a murderer stalked a town less than 45 miles from here ... taking his pleaure in the killing of 5 innocent people ... two of them were nuns. Lives dedicated to the service of God and people ... those precious lives, those who had already answered a call for transformation ... snuffed out to meet the blood requirement of yet another repeat offender. I understand that the State of Texas has the death penalty, and that the execution of Tucker got so much media coverage because she was a woman ... and yes, she did reform ... and only God will ever know what kind of reformations or transformations or joys of life her victims were denied. Her reformation didn't give their life back. But her execution was the business of the State of Texas. I hope her family will be somewhat comforted by knowing that her death was an act of justice, and that she didn't die as the victim of some vicious creep, as her own victims did. Maybe she wasn't a creep at the time of her execution, probably she did reform ... if I was on death row, I'd reform too ... but her two victims, who were axe murdered, never got to know that she had reformed. Their last moments on this earth were filled only with the knowledge of the horror she was perpetating. And, I am ever amazed at people who oppose the death penalty, using the argument that the murderer has "reformed", has "repented" ... and those same people who would forgive a murder wouldn't forgive a family member for some slight or statement that hurt their feelings (I'm not speaking of you personally, Lissa, so don't feel attacked). But, I do know people who hold everyone accountable for everything, who constantly feel themselves "wronged", who make harsh and unforgiving judgements every day of their sorry lives ... and yet, they oppose the death penalty. Because they've never, ever been at a crime scene themselves. This post is not to be interpreted as a flame, Lissa. I have strong views, as I am sure you do ... and I am also fairly assured that we both spent long and agonizing hours arriving at our conclusions. I am thankful that we both have a right to say what we think ... and whether Canada has the death penalty or not, I am also thankful that we have the freedom to state our views, and I am hopeful others will as well. OK, can you tell I've been on a cleaning binge? I am finding all these supplies and not knowing what to do with them! I have a little set from Ranger. I thought it was a black ink pad and some special cleaner but now that I take a better look at it, its a new uninked ink pad and then a bottle of clear stuff that doesn't seem to indicate if its an ink or a cleaner. Its got a yellow and white label and has some numbers on the front. Does anyone know what I have here? Is it possible this is still black ink or more likely its a cleaner and I will be needing the ink? HELP! Stacy, It is easy to make pins. There are several different type you can make. One is made on cardstock, or paper. Just stamp your image, color; layer it on heavier paper or cardstock. If on paper, you now need to layer it onto cardstock. Put a sealant on it, such as Envirotex, or some kind of laminate. (Envirotex makes the nicer pins, as a rule.) Attach a pin back. Ready to wear! Watercolor paper works wonderful for pins, too. You can also make pins using shrinky plastic. If you are brand new to stamping and pin making, I'd start with the cardstock pins. You can make 3-D pins out of cardstock, too. Experiment with your ideas and see how they look. If you want anyone's opinion, send them one and ask. We all learn by trying, and sharing. And remember....we were all beginners at one time! Maralee _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. First they play hockey with the coaster, car keys, or whatever, between their paws and then it's a SLAPSHOT off the table and onto the floor where the article now becomes fair game for them to steal and stash away in one of their ever-changing hiding places. Thank God they can't get onto the dining room table which doubles as my stamping table!
