And now comes the hardest part of any swap (for me anyway), the descriptions. Not because the cards are hard to describe, but because I am afraid of not doing justice to the beauty of each card. These cards, like all the swaps I've been in, are so interesting, and creative. I love getting swaps back just to see the creativity that goes into making cards. It overwhelms me sometimes and makes me fill like the newbie I am when I see them. Ok, I'm done rambling. ********************************Descriptions ********************************************* Karen Mellinger--- a simply elegant card. She stamped on black cardstock three hearts (purple, light blue, and pink), that look as if they are falling into the corner of the card. D. Boyd --- Christmas is still here! She stamped in black ink, on cream cs the winter house from PSX (K2139) with the snowman in the front, sleeping dog on the porch and a cat in the upstairs window. She colored it with colored pencil and embossed the roof and snow with puffy white glitter. Then she layered it on a a medium blue card stock then on black cs. On the top fold she added a shimmery blue ribbon. This card kind of maybe me want to see some snow. On second thought, I'll admire the card. Stargazer--- This card had an oriental feel to it. This is the kind of card I find difficult to decribe because she used a technique I don't now about. The stamp she used is a interlocking knot or chain links intertwinded. She stamped it in gold on red card stock in an abstract way. Then on smaller black cs she stamped it again in gold. Then the tricky part. She some how stamped it on red cs that is heavily glazed. The stamped part kind of looks like gold wax to give it a 3D look. Sorry for the bad description I've not seen this before. It's really neat looking though. Lorna--- Great colors on this card. And the glitter really makes it shine! Using a quilted heart stamp by Love you to bits. Lorna stamped in kalidescope colors of pastel yellow, pink, blue, purple and green on white card stock. Then once on a seperate piece using glittery embossing powder. She cut around the image and layered in on light blue cs which she deckel cut and then layerd on a two inch wide glimmering ribbon. The ribbon was attached to the top flap of the card. This card is very pretty. Thea Ryan--- A card for the nature lover in us all. Again I'm not sure how she did this. On brown cs she randomly stamped 3 yellow dragonflies. What I can't figure out is how she got the stamp to look like it's in the card. It almost looks like it's lasered into the cardstock. Then with the stamp stamp she stamped it on a medium tan cs. She cut it out and layered it on green mulberry paper and then pop doted it onto the front of the card. Now I'm ready for summer with this card. These were all great cards. It's amazing what you can do with one stamp and a little imagination. The one thing I found most difficult was during the opening ceremonies. I was so thrilled with the global chorus and with the choice of music. I was horrified to discover that I got to hear about half of it; the other half was commercials/"share a moment" type interviews, etc. No wonder the non-European peoples thought that westerners were barbaric. Imagine! here is this historic, techno-wonder, linking people together in an amazing way and I'm watching a car commercial. Yeetch!!! I have been enjoying hearing about lots of non-American athletes...that I really like. In spite of the nationalistic flavors (and sometimes these are so neat!), we are really one very large, very diverse family...the human family. We express our humanity in such lovely diverse ways and I enjoy seeing that represented by the stories of various athletes from countries quite different from mine. I am quite frequently humbled by the expressions of life given form by people whose lives have been so much more difficult than mine. This is a reality we deal with here, alot. Helping 13 year old kids cope with the drunk driving related death of a fellow student is horrible. And I've had to do this twice here in this relatively affluent community. When I lived in the western part of the state, drunk driving deaths were so frequent, at least one every two to three months, that people grew just a bit callussed (I know that's spelled wrong; just don't know how to fix it...). New Mexico, in the last year, has had its numbers drop significantly. And this is because people have demanded harsher penalties and gotten them. We also have lowered the legal blood alcohol limit and that has made a huge difference as well.... WRITE, CALL, EMAIL your state legislators...your governor...your mayor.... Demand that something be done. Things can change but it does require active citizens to make it happen. Hugs, Jody >Did anyone else hear Paul Harvey today?
