I love the cards I get back and enjoy posting about them...even if I am a little slow BUT I hate it when there are no names on them!!!!!!! People this is your art, part of yourselves you are giving out...doesn't this deserve your name! I have had so many I would have liked to thank personally but can't!!! Pleeeeeeze put your name on. I use stickers now but wrote mine originaly, do anything but tell us who is doing all of this wonderful work!!! I don't mean to upset anyone but I think it is important. If someone is shy about their work haow can we make them feel better if we don't know who they are! Ended up with $1.98 instead of 2c but I feel strongly about this! My name is Mark, I'm 35 and I'm confused. I don't know what I want to do when I grow up. I have this nasty habit of trying to make money out of my hobbies. For a long time, I was a studio recording engineer and arranger/composer. I've been working for years on a Music Theory/Composition degree. Someday I might even finish. I love songwriting and songwriters. For a long time, creating demos of people's songs was my bread and butter income. These days, I get obsessed with my computer. I feel like I'm pretty good at web design and I keep getting better. The HansenArt page is right around 4 kilohits, and I'm slowly building up my genealogy page (just over 100 hits). So, if any of you want help with your pages, even if it's just free advice, let me know. Since we started HansenArt and the stamping thing, I've discovered I love to draw. Be nice to make a full-time living at that, huh? I got into the stamping because Jodi got into it. She always drags me into stuff (not that I'm complaining, mind... :-) ). Other than that, I'm into miniatures battles games (mostly science fiction and fantasy). I love to paint the figures, make the terrain pieces, and play the battles. My friends and I are designing a game. We've been developing and playtesting it for about 3 years, now. It's getting really good. So, how's that? I have described all of them but this one...I saved the best for last!!! I love victorian and these were great! 1> Bonnie's card was pink cs layered with cranberry & paper lace. A sponged heart and LOVE block trimmed with a burgendy bow. Then she added a heart charm ant gold embossed "for you with love" AND a baggie of charms! Nicely done. 3.Kate Pacheco did a large size card of cranberry with a square doily folded over the whole thing. She centered an angel charm in the v of the doily. In the inside she had a computer printed "letter to Sarah form Edgar Allan Poe" very neat..never have seen this done before, actually looked like an old letter! 4. SLH did a very elaborate stamped scene similar to the old layered stand up valentines in antique stores! there is the girl inthe cloak slipping throughthe garden gate, you can see the trellis and trees and a banner saying your secret valentine...It even has an easel to stand it up....Wow! 5.Melissa David did a wonderful rose layered on a lace heart layered on mulberry and all layered on a marble stamped background....ALL in purple ink on white cs. This is the second card I have recieved from Melissa.. big time talent here! NOW 6. MY FIRST SMALL BOOK! I have wanted to try but wanted to see first!!! Point your web browser at http://crafts.dm.net/ . - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Feb 1998 01:18:04 -0600 From: Kaye Mills Subject: RS: SUNDAYS' STRANGER - story Just another thought provoking story. Hope you enjoy. Kaye (Ye OLE Cardmaker) mills@iland.net Sunday's Stranger The parking lot filled rapidly on Sunday morning as members of the large church congregation filed into church. As usually happens in a church that size, each member had developed a certain comfort zone - a block of space within those four church walls that became theirs after the second or third sitting. It was as much a part of their church experience as the recliner was to the television at home. Some of the older members had been sitting in the same row on the same side for several decades. A team of oxen could not have moved them to the opposite side of the church. One morning a stranger stood at the edge of the parking lot near a dumpster. As families parked cars and piled out, they noticed him rummaging through the trash. "Oh no! I don't believe it," whispered a lady to her husband. "That's all we need - a bunch of homeless people milling around here." One worried little girl tugged on her dad's sleeve. "But Daddy..." Daddy was busy sizing up the bearded stranger, whose baggy, outdated trousers and faded flannel shirt had dusted too many park benches. "Don't stare at him, honey," he whispered, and hurried her inside. Soft music filled the high-ceiling sanctuary as churchgoers settled into their usual spots. The choir sang an opening chorus, "In His presence there is comfort... in His presence there is peace...". Sunlight suddenly flooded the center aisle. The double doors swung open and the homeless man, sloppy and stooped, headed toward the front. "Oh no, it's him!" somebody muttered. "What does he think he's doing, anyway?" snapped an incredulous usher. The stranger set his bagful of dumpster treasures on the very first pew, which had been upholstered in an expensive soft teal fabric just three months ago. The music stopped. And before anyone had a chance to react, he ambled up the stairs and stood behind the fine, handcrafted oak podium, where he faced a wide-eyed congregation. The disheveled stranger spoke haltingly at first, in a low, clear voice. Unbuttoning and removing his top layer of clothing, he described Jesus, and the love He has for all people. "Jesus possesses a sensitivity and love that far surpasses what any of us deserves." Stepping out of the baggy old trousers, the stranger went on to describe a forgiveness that is available to each and every one of us... without strings attached. "Unconditionally He loves us." "Unconditionally He gave his very life for us." "Unconditionally and forever, we can have the peace and assurance that no matter who we are, where we've come from, or how badly we may have mistreated others or ourselves, there is hope." "In Jesus, there is always hope." "You see, my friends, it is never too late to change," the man continued. "He is the Author of change, and the Provider of forgiveness. He came to bring new meaning to 'life'." Men and women squirmed as reality hit them like an electrical current. The stranger tugged at his knotted gray beard, and removed it. I'm here to tell you that we are loved with a love far beyond human understanding, a love that enables us to accept and love others in return." Then tenderly he added, "Let's pray together." That wise pastor - under the guise of a homeless "nobody" - did not preach a sermon that day, but every person left with plenty to think about. Before I post to one of the scrapbooking bulletin boards about the safety of storing stamps in cardboard, I wanted to check in with all of you and see what you have heard. I have heard that the cardboard is very absorbant and will dry out your stamps and make them brittle. Can anyone confirm this for me? Is it okay if you line the cardboard? TIA. I went to the Post Office to collect a parcel. Thought it might have been from my SST (Aussie version of the SSS). But it was from Marcia! This was so unexpected and poor Marcia must have been wondering what had happened as it took almost 4 months to arrive Down Under. Now that's what I call snail mail! But this parcel was wonderful!!!! There are quite a few Christmas things in it (some tinsel, some little Christmas stamps and a red/green ink pad, some puffy stickers).....Don't laugh! This parcel was put together in November. But, as we had Christmas with the in-laws in England this year, we're having Christmas with my family in March. I've still got pressies to wrap so all this Christmas stuff has arrived just in time. LOL! Marcia also included a heap of stamped images for me to play with - many of them on crack'n peel sticker paper. There are some great images - lots of trees, flowers, leaves, a teepee, a bunch of the frogs, a spider, some fish and some really humorous images as well. Plus a couple of great gigantic keyholes already coloured and embossed in gold - - I'm going to have fun playing with those! And there's more! There are some things for embellishing cards, including a little embroidered rose. And there's a pin made out of felt - - very cute! Plus some lovely sunflower paper. Wrapped in white tissue with gold stars was a bunch of ums, including a great silhouette of a naked couple dancing around. Hmmm, I can feel an idea for a Valentine's day card for my DH coming on..... And last but by no means least there is a really groovy card. It has a background of cobwebs with a very happy looking Frankenstein in the front. He's holding a little paper bag with is very cleverly placed in his hand and opens up! I've never seen a card like this. So clever! Marcia has even included instructions for me about how to make the card plus several photocopies of the template to make the tote bag. I'm so overwhelmed by this parcel. Marcia, you really are so generous. It was so umexpected.
