Just wanted everyone to know how pleased I was with the custom stamp order I received from Chris McEwen today. Late last weekend, I had a brainstorm (did ya smell the smoke???) for a card. I needed a Word stamp to go with it and couldn't find exactly what I wanted. Yeah - sometimes I print things out on the computer - but I wanted this one stamped and embossed nicely! One of the kind listees referred me to Chris and tonight I'm Stamping with my new stamp! That's how fast the service was! Chris was so accomodating and helpful as I talked through my idea. I would recommend Chris to everyone on the list! If you have an idea - e-mail him. You too can be stampin' with your own original stamps! (Mine was a word stamp, but he can work with images too!) I tried to register a name Stampin G (for stampin grandma) but now I'm not sure about it. I ended up having an office party for about 20 people on Thursday - -sort of to throw him off and to accomodate friends who were going to be away over Valentine=92s weekend. Then we had about 75 people come out on Sat. Peter was clueless about both parties up till I called him from the church on Sat. My rouse was that my car wouldn=92t start and I needed him to come jump it. I even had a good description of the problem (It just makes a click, but won=92t turn over.) Unfortunately, my ever-so-practica= l honey told me to call AAA! I couldn=92t believe it. I guess I have always figured AAA was for when you were far from home or if you couldn=92t get someone you knew to help. Well, I whined that I didn=92t have my card but he said he would call them from home. I didn=92t want him to do that, so = I finally told him that the car was fine and to just come over. So he knew something was up but not how many people or who. I did make the video of his baby pictures up till now. The songs I used for background were: Birthday - Beatles Bicycle Race - Queen If I had a Hammer - Peter Paul and Mary To Know him is to Love Him - the Teddybears These were all suggestions from the list. Thanks! I also started a scrapbook for him of those old pictures. My first scrapbook. Now, I am really hooked on it. I included a Fun Facts page made by Phyllis Ingraham with interesting facts from the year he was born. One of his favorite presents was an old poster of Einstein on a bicycle (suggested by Laura!) I used 50=92s confetti donated by Teresa Durn to decorate a card and package for him. And Peter received at least one Valentine a day from the Someone Loves You swap for the whole week before his birthday. Just wanted to let you all know how much of a part you played in making this a very special day. (Unfortunately, he is already planning revenge for my 40th birthday - still 8 years away. Stamping store I live in the area and I'd say that the best Los Angeles stamp store is not in Los Angeles but in West Hills. It's called the West Hills Rubber Stamp Shoppe at 8230 Fallbrook Ave, West Hills CA 91304 phone is 818 710-1551. They are really nice there and have lots of great stuff: stamps, paper, magazines, sealing wax, and tons of supplies. It's about a half hour north of Los Angeles up the 101. I'm sure if you call you can get much better directions than I can give you. They also teach classes there so maybe your friend will get lucky and find a really good class. At any rate I think it is worth the trip As for the other stores I saw mentioned: Stamp Stamp Stamp in Santa Monica is really just a very large closet. I get claustrophobia every time I go in there, the people are not friendly, and they never have anything I'm looking for. I can't say that I'd recommend this store. Pearls - this is a great store for all kinds of art supplies and has an isle or two of stamps. But if your friend is near it by all means do go. The second floor is filled with craft stuff and they also have the best price on Tria markers in the city. B. A. Stamper - isn't really worth the trip. Their selection of rubber stamps is quite limited and no great deals can be found there. If your friend doesn't mind traveling 45 minutes or so there is another stamp shop in Thousand Oaks (about another 15 minutes north on the 101 from the West Hills store) called The Paper Post. As the name implies it has lot of great paper and also lots of great stamps. When the weather is nice and I feel like a drive, this is usually where my car takes me. It's a lot like the West Hills Rubber Stamp Shoppe in that it carries a wide selection of things but it has far more paper. The address is 1145 Lindero Canyon Road, Suite c-1, Thousand Oaks, CA 91362 phone number is 818 865-0702. It got written up in the Quest section of Somerset a few months back. Oh, and they also teach classes there too. Now if your friend has an whole day that she doesn't know what to do with she could go all the way up the 101 to Santa Barbara (about 2 hours north of the city) and make the pilgrimage to Stampa Barbara. Though the first time I went there it was a bit overwelming...so perhaps she should not venture there all by herself. She may just pass out from the sight of all those stamps. <> If I were going to recommend just one store it would be the West Hills Rubber Stamp Shoppe. It's not so big that it's overwhelming but big enough to have a good selection of stamps and other supplies too. - -Melanie This message was from Melanie Allen - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
