I have 3 children, ages 8,5 and 21 months. Only the 8 year old is in school. I manage to get a TON of things (craft wise) done... When I want to stamp...this is what I try to do.... Give the 5-year old a BIG piece of paper, and ink pad and some misc stamps. I also let him use my OLD set of crayola colored pencils. Noooo embossing, noooo glitter.... LOL Nooooo markers!!! He stamps while I stamp. Also, I try to organize my projects.... I tend to be a bit OVER organized at times. I do the more difficult phases of each project at night after they are in bed or very early in the morning. Ie.... I stamp the entire card, but don't color it in or embellish it. Just bare essentials. Then I do the coloring, trimming, embellishing ETC...while they are up and roaming around. Also, we have an EXTENSIVE collection of Disney movies..and I DO mean extensive. Sometimes they watch movies while I stamp. Sometimes they stamp with me!!! I have even learned to quilt and crochet HOLDING the 21 month old in my lap!!! :-) I can stamp AROUND my cat.... LOL The 21 month old also loves to "draw" on a huge piece of paper with pencils while I stamp. Basically they want to do what you are doing.... if you can...let them. The house can get a little messy.... for me..as long as it's picked up by the time hubby gets home...no harm no foul!!! LOL Some days though...I admit..the little "monsters" (said in a very loving manner) do not let me do a darn thing. :-) Sammi is 3...she's old enough to learn to "clean up" her messes a little. I don't mean make her CLEAN them up..but she can clean a little and pick up after herself when she crafts with you. Luckily, Both my younger children, Blake age 5 and Angel age 21 months, do tend to play on their own some, and are pretty good at keeping themselves occupied. They have their own romper room to do this in...so that helps. They do still take naps, Blake usually just lays down and rests for a few hours rather than sleeping now. Also..I am very fortunate to have a hubby who will cook supper and do dishes so I can find a bit of time to even organize projects I want to work on....or help me get ideas for swaps. He even helps with the laundry on the week ends!!! I think it's important that your children SEE you being creative.... I am within sight of all my children all the time. But...if you figure out how to stamp with a 21 month old wrapped around your lower leg..LOL please let me know!!! LOL Sometimes I even have Blake "read" me stories while I stamp...he really doesn't read yet...but he thinks he does. We make up stories together while I stamp.... he makes up part of the story, I add to it..etc.... We sing songs together.... listen to the radio.... talk about TV movies and disney characters.... there are sooo many things you can do together that don't require the use of your hands!!! LOL I have even taken out pots and pans and a wooden spoon for Angel baby to "play" on while I stamp. She plays the drums, Blake and I sing. (we have a HUGE supply of tylenol!!!!!) There are lots of things to do....be creative!!! LOL Let your hair down a bit....and let the "monsters" run wild!!! LOL (within reason of course!!!) I hope this gives you a few ideas.... :-) And yes...sometimes I DO feel like I live in a zoo!! Had a great time at the convention (sorry I missed meeting everyone -- I completely lost track of time until 12:00 rolled around!). Spent WAYYYY too much money (but weren't we supposed to??). We had to leave after lunch, so I didn't get to go to the Judikins class -- did any of the listee's go? I was wondering what I missed -- their booth was full of some of the most incredible sample cards. I bought Mary Jo McGraw's new book, and saw her working on something she called "quadruple embossing" -- did she demo that in the class (oh, I just know I'm going to regret not being able to stay for that!). Something huge that can stock everything, and then some more stuff too. Like a paper warehouse(with reams of paper), with 200 + lines of stamps, all and every pad pen pencil etc. Plus full lines of paints, confetti's, books, and more. And blank clothing, wood, ceramics, chocolates & candies( and more stamping on items). Plus SCRAPBOOKING and other stamp related businesses. I am so tired of driving all over to pick up a piece here or a piece there, and waiting endlessly for those mail orders to arrive, YUK(although it is reminiscent of xmas). I was kinda thinking huge, but i like the homey log cabin feel too. Maybe throw some old quilts around, consign some cute crafts and scatter them about, etc. Trying to find a place with eating/gassing nearby. SO, what do you think? How far would you drive to go to a "one stop" shop? How often do you drive thru I95 in that general area? The location is the most important thing. What lines are a MUST, and what would you like to see more of. How about the name?(i was thinking like THE E.C Stampers Warehouse). Please, send me your input, privately. I REALLY want to know what you think. I will listen to all your ideas and thoughts. Keep sending me your ideas!! This is after all going to be your store too! Sure makes up for my Moon Rubber order taking so very long to get here. Yowza, SSS-O-Mine, you are such a coordinator! Last month all the black and white, this month all red, white, and pink. I must admit that it took me a few moments of pawing the contents to figure out it was a Valentine theme! My first theme package! Decided to use the metallic red "grass" as little valentine birds nests. I must admit that the cherry cordials are already long gone (not shared). The rest of the package is a feast of Valentine card ingredients! There is white, pink, & red paper, ribbons, stickers, red ink, bits of adornements (ribbons, confetti, doilies). The saucer sized round doilie is one I've never seen. But I think the square is my favorite. And the best part is all the instructions! Can't wait to do the Seceret Book Mini Kit from Bonnie "Lass". It's all so fun, and perfectly timed. You are amazing! And the little candle gives me lots of ideas. I have just the place for it. I do have one funny update from last month's package. When I took everything home, my son saw the large stamp and immediately exclaimed "It's the chamelian with a color of his own!". Hadn'd even dawned on me that it was a chamelian. I spent last week at Lake Tahoe practicing my watercolor pencils using that stamp (now have a dozen of him in wonderous colors). He's perfect for that. Hayden also used him with my marvey markers to make thank you notes for his BD presents (it was 1/15). One last thing, we'll be going to Vail the first week of March. I'll be taking along a ton of RS stuff to play with. Just wanted to warn you in case you send the package early, I won't reply until 3/10. Someone will be housesitting, so the package will be safe. Thanks again, it's all wonderful! ------------------------------ From: Sandi Marr Date: Thu, 06 Feb 1997 16:42:31 -0800 Subject: Re: RS: Ideas needed! vb wrote: > > Hi all! > Well, I have to admit I went a little crazy in the Pit 'O Rubber at RBBB in > Dallas and got stamps that I actually have no idea what I'm going to do with > yet - but I need help with one in particular - it may be a dumb question, > but here goes.... If it is a > background - could you great people suggest some ways to use it? I r I decided to tie up the list with my response, in hopes it may be helpful to others also. The stamp you are referring to is a background stamp, although you could cut them all out if you wanted to. These are good when doing layering. For example, with the dog background, I would stamp up a card with a dog/pet theme. Then cut a larger size card from a colored cardstock and stamp the background stamp all around the edges. Then place the stamped card on the background card, only the edges will show, but it makes a nice "packaged" look. If you would like to see some examples of how these are used, check out the RBBB website, go to color samples, and you will get lots of ideas. http://www.rubberbaby.com is the addy.
