The Norwegians originally wore red (I think) to symbolize their support for Jews during the war, but after that was figured out, they started wearing paper clips on their lapels--a less recognizable way to show support. That was eventually found out also, but this week of recognition is to remember their efforts. Thought it might be fun to have a swap that utilized paper clips, maybe if I can find who's doing the organizing of it, we could send an extra of each card to them! Anyway, let me know if you're interested--would have to have cards by first of April, probably to get there--will ask my Bro. if he can get address as it was in a mag. at home that I read about it. What ever happened to common sense and common decency? When I was a child I was taught to give my seat to any adult, definitely to women and especially to people having difficulty, e.g., older folks and pregnant women. Of course, was also taught I was taught to open and hold doors for this same group of people. In recent times, healthy women have actually been insulted by that gesture and didn't fail to let me know! I do want to remark about an incident that happened to me last year: I was still working and in a wheelchair. Coming home from work one day I needed to stop by the grocery store and since I have a medical problem as a result of brain surgery and have a handicap placard in my truck, I decided to park in a handicap space. As I was turning into a handicap space, a lady with a car full of kids, no handicap placard or tag whipped into the parking space ahead of me, almost hitting my truck. She appeared to be about five months pregnant, so I guess she thought she was handicapped. I found a parking place downhill from her (that parking lot has quite a bit of slope), got in my wheelchair (manually powered) and pulled myself uphill. I went to the store manager about this and when I came back out there was a police car parked behind her. I suppose she got a ticket -- I hope so!!! If I had not been handicapped at the time and if we had both arrived at a non-handicap space at the same time, I probably would have yielded to her because of how I was raised.
