The adhesives on some are set for laser printers, others for copiers. They are available with a matte or a glossy finish. But again, the question: why? Why bother with indexing sheets? Do those purchasing rubber stamps prefer to have them indexed in ink with the actual impression of the die, or do they prefer an index run through a printer onto a sheet and applied like a decal? We've had one opinion expressed in favor of the index sheets. Shannon told us why she felt this way. Do others agree with her? Same reasons, or different? Are there others who prefer actual impressed indexes? Again, why? My Opinion: This is a very interesting subject to me. As a manufacturer, I can go either way on this and I would very much like to know what the consumer prefers. From my perspective, the indexing sheets are cheaper to do for volume production. I run a set off, cut and apply. Done. Actual impression indexes can be faulty and need to be redone. We do that by sanding off the bad index and doing it again, adding steps to the manufacturing process. So if I had my way, we'd use the sheets. I don't because I felt they look cheap, not reflecting the effort and care we put into our work. - --Chris McEwen reply to: Socrates Press socrates@sprintmail.com - -----Original Message----- From: Jutta Hood Subject: RS: Re: Indexing Sheets >The indexing sheets I sell I use as follows: > >Stamp your images in black on a white piece of paper. Kate, I thought your summaries of the contents of the leading stamp magazines was excellent...I'm saving it for the next time some one asks me about one of them. I do think, though, that Somerset is so much more than a stamping magazine--really in a class by itself--and that Rubber Stamper has seemed less valuable to many of us because it was new when Somerset was and comparison was inevitable. I think the two magazines were intended for different audiences in the beginning with Somerset aimed at artists who used rubber-stamping as a tool, and RS aimed at the mass market and stampers who regarded stamping as a craft unto itself. Rubber Stamper's editors have seemed to realize, however, that it needs to cater to the artist/stampers, too, if it is going to succeed--and that it can cater to both audiences. At least, the last few issues seem to be aimed at a more diversified market...most particularly to be aimed more at those who are *experienced* stampers than *only* at beginners. My only disagreement with you would be about the ads in RS which I like more than those in other stamp magazines. The layout of individual ads is much better I think, and I appreciate the "newsy" approach. Sometimes, it is difficult to separate them from the articles because they introduce new products or have tips in them that are more interesting I'l grant you, but I like that. Of course, the editorial and final page column have always been worth the price of the subscription anyway in my opinion. They are much more interesting than the ongoing "letter-story" in Somerset although I do think that is a nice touch that should be continued, too... But I realize that is not why most people buy a stamping magazine. And if I had to choose only two, I too would choose Somerset and RSM :) _H_ + + [_] ( ) | ( : ) Darlene Sybert ' |( : ) http://www.missouri.edu/~engds/index.html +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Messenger of sympathy and love, servant of parted friends, consoler of the lonely, bond of the scattered family, enlarger of the common life. -US Post Office inscription, Wash,DC +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This message was from Darlene Sybert - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. Congratulations! and welcome to the most wonderful experience of your lifetime. I've said those words over and over since my grandson was born, "I never knew I could feel like this!" He was born here and stayed until he was 10 months old; and next week, he is coming back to visit me for a week. He's fifteen months old now. I'm tremedously excited...
