Was: Broken commitments Possible Solution I think Cottage Stamper has some very worthwhile points. I agree with almost all of them and do NOT feel qualified to be the final judge of any vendors worthiness to be in business. The only reason for offering the possibility of deciding which vendors should/should not be on it in the future is to keep some of the flaming off the list. As mentioned before, this is a proposal. But the proposal did include a caution against flaming, I would not count any type of public flame against a vendor. There are just too many reasons a vendor may not have provided a service and/or a person might feel upset with another person. Should the majority of the listees wish to have the option of taking a vendor off the v. list then there would be an established protocal which everyone would know about and could follow. As a vendor myself I know all too well many of the reasons things are late, and as a purchaser I'm also quite familiar with the impatience involved in mail-ordering supplies. Perhaps I'm wrong but it seems as though the vendor list is my own service and I am capable of including/excluding any vendor I see fit. However, I do NOT wish to unfairly exclude anyone. I have a vendor or two on the list that I personally feel are a bit unfair or perhaps have dealt poorly with others but have not taken them off. I feel it is important for fellow stampers to be able to make their own decisions regarding purchases. As to whether or not I could be held responsible legally - probably not. It can not be deemed slanderous nor an act of libel if a party is simply excluded from this type of a listing. Should I start up a listing of why X is a horrible business that could be another matter but I just don't have the inclination (or the time!) I had to go to a cub scout committee meeting last night to help plan the Blue & Gold Dinner for the end of this month. After the meeting when I was walking to my car, I tripped on a garden hose that the committee chairman's son had left loosely coiled across the sidewalk. As a result, I have a twisted knee. And of course it is the same knee a had wrecked a few years ago. This is just great! I have to drive my kids to their activities (school, babysitting job, pre-school, etc. etc. etc.) and can't get anyone to help out. Wouldn't be so bad if my car was an automatic. But it isn't. Sorry to vent like this, but I have very little tolerance with myself when I am sick or injured. (Should have heard me when the doctor had me laid up for 5 months when I was pregnant with each of my 3 kids. VBG). I am sympathetic with anyones ailments, but my own. This justs irritates me to the extreme. I have been trying to get our vegetable garden ready to plant. My broccoli needs to be picked, cleaned, blanched & frozen. And here I am with a swollen knee. Thank goodness I got all the wood cut yesterday for some books I am making. At least I can get those worked on. Or maybe just go have a good cry. Whatever. Lisa Thompson ------------------------------ From: pjbcs@juno.com (Patricia J Ciancio) Date: Fri, 7 Feb 1997 15:08:07 PST Subject: RS Re: Tan: Ebonics - Long HI All, When I first read this I laughed because it is REAL. Sad but true. I laughed because I have heard so many of my son's friends talk like this (they didn't know I could hear them or was even listening). They all speak "regular" English - Ebonics is "slang" for them. Some of his friends are white, many are black, a few Asian friends, a few Spanish, a few Armenian, one boy is from Florida or Georgia (I guess that's another "race" to these kids :))), one boy is from Bosnia, in other words - multi nationalities. And they all can talk like this. I asked why they do it? Cause it's cool - dis is da way ta talk and be like the in kids. I told them they sound like morons. Of cause their ages range from 14 to 17 years old and I'm an ancient 47 - so what do I know?? Like cool. Of course I do remember "dig it, groovy, like chill out man, peace brother, most excellent, DUH", and a few more - how about daddy'o, later alligator, jive talk, etc. I look at this as a "part of growing up" for my child. He knows how to speak properly and does so 98% of the time. It's a "goof" to talk the other way. My daughter calls him a wannabe black dude but that's not true. His black friends laugh at him when they all talk like this. They call him a wigga. It's slang - I hate it but don't make too much fuss about it. (I also dislike - no hate - most of the "Rap" songs I hear - not all of them.) The sad part is that many people/children don't know how to speak any other way. I don't agree with the "legalization, formalization, recognition" of Ebonics as a separate language. I'm curious how others feel about this. I'd appreciate it if people would email me privately and let me know. I like to try and keep an open mind about any and all "things". And I do change my opinion. I wonder what the solution to this language problem is. As far as "Leroy" being 20 and in 9th grade - no it's not very funny but is so very true! One of my sons classmates/friend is three years behind and will be 20 when/if he graduates. I would like to add that although I laughed at the misuse of the words, I was also offended at some of the content of the jokes. I really really really hate it when women are put down or insulted. I hate to be dissed as the slang saying goes. I have taught my son that women are to respected 100% - and I've threatened him with bodily harm if I ever hear otherwise! I'm a single mom and he knows first hand how hard it is to survive in this world. He has felt the prejudices that I've been subjected to and completely understands. He does respect women and wishes he had one. Ha ha ha hee hee hee. Not my baby boy!!!
