When I moved in with my sweetie last spring, he promptly let me have the second bedroom for my studio ;-) What a guy! He loves to visit and stamp with me. Here's a brief tour ... The focal point of the room is a shallow bookcase that stores all my wood mounted stamps (400+). Chris helped me make this last August out of the scrap lumber that was my old, broken down futon! It has ten shelves and is painted glossy white. I love, love, love it! As much as I love my HALOS, my first love will always be mounted stamps. They are so aesthetically pleasing to me. I am lucky to have been collecting for 16 years. Above it hangs a shelf housing all the stamps that are too big for the bookcase shelves. It has a piece of wood on the bottom, running along its length (what is this called?) that I hammered nails into which all my Fiskars paper edgers hang on. This is also painted white. On the opposite wall hangs another shelf like I just described. This one holds my regular scissors, brayer and all my Fiskars corner edgers. It hangs over my drafting table, where I sit on a stool (after knocking a pile of magazines and catalogs to the floor 1st. LOL) To my left is a two drawer white filing cabinet. To my right is a five drawer taboret on wheels which houses all my inkpads, ep, heat gun, corrugator, collage pieces and other supplies. This is usually where the chocolate is stashed! (Today's hoard: Cadbury Roasted Almond Bar and a couple of Tootsie rolls.) Four bookcases contain my art and gift books, scrapbooks and photo albums, magazines, videos, paper, tins, paper covered boxes, etc. Two chests with 3 drawers apiece (painted white) are stacked on top of each other in the corner. They hold paper of every kind - mostly index cards, post-it note pads, blank books, journals, white paper lunch bags, envys, etc. A white wire cart on wheels is wedged between a bookcase and a small desk (the useless kind of desk I'm afraid, need to replace w/computer desk!) this is filled with more supplies, children's novelty lunchboxes (Hello Kitty, Curious George etc.) which contain more supplies and often travel with me. My childhood toybox, handpainted by my parents, contains purses and bags. Stuffed animals and dolls sit on top. CDs and CD player. Hatboxes. Longaberger Baskets of every size and description, some on a wrought iron basket tree. A BIG bulletin board covered with inspiration of every kind. Artwork, framed and unframed covers the walls. Windchimes. A riot of color everywhere you look. Hardwood floors. Two big windows. Candles. Clock. Pottery. I was raised by two of the most amazing parents ever, who were always lucky enough to have their own private spaces for their respective hobbies and sanity time. I was brought up to understand that although being Mom and Dad their top priority, they were entitled to be individuals too! It's not selfish, it's essential. I've heard Anglhrt/Tyra comment on this kind of thing before (and very eloquently, of course) and it is so true! By having enough time for themselves and each other, they had time for me and my 2 brothers. Not always an easy balance, but ya gotta try ;-) They've been married almost 29 years. I hope to benefit by their example someday when I have a family. I love this room. Am blessed to have it and everything in it, as well as my sweetheart and friends who like to come play ;-) I just need to figure a way to fit a PC in there so I could visit with y'all there, instead of @ work. (Although you brighten my day here ...) May you all have a OVERFLOWING mailbox today! xoxo, Michelle Cobb CobbStamp * Who's got a cold ... YUCK! Some I've learned from more experienced convention goers on the list...some I've "invented" from my own experiences. 1. I take a small suitcase on wheels, one which zips such that the zipping part is at the top. I keep my coat, purse, water bottle in it and, of course, all purchases. This leaves my hands free, my back not sore and is sure easier when I want to pay for something...Works well for me. 2. Wear really comfy shoes. You'll walk alot, usually on uncarpeted floors and anything less than your most comfortable shoes will put a real "pain" in your day. 3. At super large conventions, with zillions of people, I keep about half my cash in my shoes. Distributed correctly, I can't feel it at all...if something happens to my wallet (read theft here), I'm not penniless. 4. Bring some munchies and a waterbottle. Even if food is available (it is at some conferences and not at others), you may not want to take the time to wait on long lines to buy whatever is available. I like to take short "munch" breaks, where I can sit for a minute, catch my breath, eat a little, drink a little water. Then, I'm back at it....refreshed and with more time available than if I'd sat at a restaurant table. 5. Know in advance what you simply can't live without. I go there first. I know I have to go to Magenta, Stampscapes, Stamp Out Cute, etc.etc.etc. I head to those places first. Also, if I know a company I love will be selling grabbages, I go there before anything else. I learned this from the experience of being overwhelmed by all the rubber related goodies and coming home with lots of neat stuff, but not what I NEEDED... LOLOL 6. Some folks like to do a quick walk around to see what is available and then go back to important places. Others like to start at one end and shop the whole place. There are advantages and disadvantages to both strategies. Choose what makes you happier.... Or, even better, meet up with some list people and go together; then it doesn't matter about the stamps and stuff...you're with dear friends you've never met before. 7. SERIOUSLY, HERE! Don't take more money than you can afford to spend. I NEVER bring my credit cards with me cause I know I'll go a little nuts (LOLOL). I ONLY take what I can afford to spend...and I stick to this. Even tho its really REALLY hard.... 8. Don't get so caught up in buying rubber that you miss whatever get together is planned. Hard to do....but its miserable to come home with lots of goodies and not have spent time with us dear listees.... Have fun! Hope these help. I usually only use the computer for sayings and such but this swap gave me some great ideas! Stmpaholic- She made a paper "sculpture" of two angels. This was done with a paper mold I think. This being the base, she put dried flowers coming out of the top, all on brown cardstock. On the inside it says "An angel's work is never done". I'm sorry my description is lacking but this is really beautiful! Psypros@aol.com - On cream cardstock is a magenta and hot pink puzzle design bordered with electric blue. It says "Fire Falls" and next to that is a feather in the same electric blue as the border. Inside is a poem by Jamie Franco. There is a purple feather and some purple rhinestones used as embellishments inside. The corners are punched with a neat design. Wonderful use of contrasting colors. Jamie Schnirch-She printed a beautiful roses in a bowl picture on vellum. She used embossed white leather cardstock for the inside and printed a friendship saying . She also used gold foil for a rose on the inside. It's lovely! Geri DiSiena- She printed a friendship poem and bordered it with a flower border. It is laminated and fancy cut all the way around. It would make a great bookmark! How did you make it look so glittery? annetteob@aol.com - She printed an Aesop's Fable "The Crow and the Swan" on a bookmark. On the other side she illustrated it and put the title. She fancy cut the edges, laminated it, and added a gold tassel to finish it off. Great job! Thank you so much Jamie for hosting this swap. Great job all! Always stamping, Maureen This message was from "Maureen Butcher" - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
